alcohol revisited
i just charted my monthly weight highs and lows for the past two years. i've lost about 24 pounds over that time; obviously my weight loss has been very gradual. but last january i quit drinking for 7 weeks and lost 9 pounds. in the ten months since i started drinking again, i've lost...well, none, really. i lost about three more, but have gained two of them back. so i'm going off the booze again tomorrow (first i have to polish off the wine that's in my cupboard;-))
the good new is, i've been able to maintain my weight loss just by moderating my drinking: gain a pound or two, quit for a week - simple. my eating and activity level fluctuate, but haven't changed in any significant way.
so...anyone want to kick the booze in the interest of a ten-pound loss?
Man...I was out last night and I'm going out again in about an hour. I had about 2 drinks last night cause all my male friends thought it would be a good idea to drink a BOX of wine (4 bottles) EACH.... and the night was a bit of a disaster.
Have any of you read that book "growing up a drunk girl" (or "smashed" it's titled in the US)? The drinking culture is so bad at uni (or just in the UK in general I suppose)...I used to go out about once a month before I came here and now it's 2/3 times a week. What else can I do except switch to lower calorie drinks? Cause I don't have the willpower not to go out!!
no, i'm in phase one right now, which means no booze whatsoever. once i get to phase two (< 140), i'll be able to have a drink out with friends, but still none at home. phase three - well, i'll negotiate phase three when i get there. i shaved my legs this morning, so should drop a few ounces there ;-)
btw, has anyone heard of the 10,000 step program? i'm going to post about that in the fitness forum right now....
(And no, I don't normally drink fizzy wine! LOL!)
Split
split, thanks for the tip. i've never tried san pellegrino. does it have a lot of sodium? i love club soda, but am wary of the sodium content.
Well pissed off. All the talk of abstainance, put me right off! I've talked myself right out of it, drinking that is... I managed 3 pints, as apposed to much more, and i'm sat here online when I should be sleeping it off! Sunday is the challenge for me. if I can go without craving today, then tomorrow should be easy, she says!!
Nite all, elttiks ~x~
Oh just reading this thread makes me want a glass of wine.....or a beer. But I am not going to do it. Nope not going to.
Okay I had better go drink some water.........my hubby has 3 beers in there that I could drink YUM but I am not doing it!
Good luck everyone

Wow, this group really likes to talk but thats great. I was only away for a day and a half and two more pages. Its Saturday night and I am having glass of wine. I worked off 800 calories today so...
I am 47 with three kids 21, 17, 16. Only the 17 and 16 year olds are at home. Married 23 years and have worked in commercial banking now for 27 years. I lost 35 pounds about 4 years ago, got into a size two..now I am barely fitting into my 6's and eights are comfortable so yes, I am very pissed off at myself. I cannot seem to lose weight. I just posted an question under health forums because I also just got off the BCP. I don't know if that is a contributor in the hormone factor.
I am trying not to drink during the week because 1) one is not enough 2) don't like to feel bad in morning 3) i sleep terrible when I drink 4) empty calories that settle in my mid section 4) expensive...
I will go back and read about all of you, seems we are all over the country, I am in Texas...
Had friends over last night for dinner but managed to hold myself to one glass of red wine & one liqueur. Boy, it was hard! I endulged in dessert, too so i'll have to rack that all up as a cheat day.
Back to the grind today! But there's football to watch and beer to be drank....oh! and nacho's, and wings.....Gotta....use....self.....restraint! Not sure if i can make it...
i think i can, i think i can, i think i can.....
Went swimming, it was awful. Full of kids bouncing around every where. Came home, and opened a lager. Grrrrr!

Canvic (what is your name ?). Well done with the wine intake when you had your friends round although I think I would rather have had more wine than have desert !
I am on day 3 and still no alcohol. Sticking to 1,200 cals a day and dare I say it, am having no probs so far ... let's hope it lasts !
it's just that i'm in grad school, and because i moved here to go to school, most of my friends are students, too. everyone's doing research and writing papers and some are already working on their theses...everyone's crazy busy. we had lots of fun in august and september, though - way more fun than someone my age should be having ;-)
just realized i did some bad math the other day (not surprising for a social work student with an english lit background). when i thought i was down almost three pounds, it was really only a little better than a pound and a half (don't ask me how i did that). as of today i'm down two and a half, which is still good for a week, so i'm happy.
