alcohol revisited
i just charted my monthly weight highs and lows for the past two years. i've lost about 24 pounds over that time; obviously my weight loss has been very gradual. but last january i quit drinking for 7 weeks and lost 9 pounds. in the ten months since i started drinking again, i've lost...well, none, really. i lost about three more, but have gained two of them back. so i'm going off the booze again tomorrow (first i have to polish off the wine that's in my cupboard;-))
the good new is, i've been able to maintain my weight loss just by moderating my drinking: gain a pound or two, quit for a week - simple. my eating and activity level fluctuate, but haven't changed in any significant way.
so...anyone want to kick the booze in the interest of a ten-pound loss?
HI girls,
I thought I'd drop in cause I was thinking of you all. I kinda just stopped doing the board thing. Sorry that I was away. I'm not even sure I'm invited to this board anymore because I'm gonna be doing the opposite of this board, gaining weight and NOT drinking---
FINALLY we got pregnant! Yay! I'm only 7 weeks but I already feel fat. I haven't gained any weight (well maybe my boobs!) but it sure feels like it!
So just thought I would share. I hope all of you are well. Wendy, I cannot believe you've lost 56 lbs! That is truly remarkable!
Anyways, hope you all are well!

I have been looking for a thread like this forever..... I love beer. LOVE IT!
I can usually drink because I run alot but after a little knee issue I have had to cut back. I really want to only allow myself to drink one day a week which is really hard for me. I must sound like I need to go to AA. It's really hard to because its football season, anyone love football and beer???
hi amy! i'm so excited for you ;) congratulations!
srlar, this thread was going strong for awhile, but it's run its course. you should probably start a new one; i'm sure you'll have takers!
Thanks for the advise... maybe I will give a new thread a try![]()
Amy, that is wonderful news! I have not been on the boards either, I was surprised to see this in my email. A baby is a wonderful thing. You are going to find out what it is really like to love someone so much you could burst. I am so happy for you!
I too have gained about 5 pounds. Not doing the right thing. And I am NOT preggers so I have no excuse. I am sure I will be back here hard and heavy after the first, when I usually try to get my **** together.
Maria, how have you been?
HELLO everyone!!!! I'm BACK!! I have been gaining wieght and not feeling so hot all at once. My doctor has put me on a diet due to GERD which prohibits alcohol and fried foods, so I have already started losing wieght! Figured I would stop in and say hi. Congrats to Amy!!! Let me know how everyone is doing!!!
You know I'm starting to be a believer or starting to face reality I guess. I love red wine and can't help to have a beer or few with my friends when watching sports but I've started to be serious about my weight. I don't over eat unless I'm drinking and when I have cut out drinking for a month or so in the past I start slimming down quickly. I have also cut sugar which as we know is a big component in alcohol and it's been like night and day. Yeah for me!

Yes! Sundays kill me - nacho's, chicken wings and beer go so well with watching football. It's a good thing (only for my waist line) that football will soon be over. But then Sundays will be boring again.
Interesting thread, why do I only find these when they are nearly finished? Hopefully some more people will join and keep it going. I too have found cutting back alcohol has helped with my weight loss but it is haaaaaarrrrrd. I love drinking wine and the country I come from (New Zealand) produces a lot of very good wine so it is cheap and easy to buy from the supermarket. I like a beer in hot weather, its summer here at present. Also like vodka with Schewpps tonic with a twist (lemon). I try to not drink Mon-Thurs unless special occasion or had a real bad day at work. I find that when I am exercising I think seriously about whether I want to drink the night before as it makes the training harder - even just a couple of glasses will do that to me. I also get a craving for salty foods when I drink beer - mainly potato chips.
Oh my God! I'm glad I don't live there; you'd have to roll me out of bed being around all that good cheap wine-lol. It's like losing weight is so boring; no sugar, no salt, no oil all the things we craaaaaaaaaave! Please stop the madness. My friend told me that I can subsitute a teaspoon of brown sugar in my morning coffee for regular; is that true? This would really be nice because I hate the taste of splenda and all that so I usually go with out sugar.
I'm new to CC and new to this forum thing, but this thread fits me like a glove! I have gained about 30 pounds in the last year or two and it isn't all from having knee surgery- it's from drinking too much AND knee surgery :O)
I love my wine, and the wonderful mixed drinks my hubby makes. And generally more than 1. I live in a neighborhood which parties like crazy (every weekend we have pool nite) and we have birthday parties, whatever. Any excuse for a party.....and would you believe we a re all 50-70? My knees are finally doing better and I've decided it's time to lose all this blubber but how to factor in the booze calories is harrrrrd. Maybe only on pool nite and add diet tonic to my wine? I've been cold turkey for 4 days and on CC for 4 also. No DT's
, but Saturday is coming and the pressure will be on. The social aspect is difficult for me. Suggestions on that anyone?
Ok. I don't know if I'm doing this right but yes, I need this too!
I drink every day and have found (out of nowhere) this tire around my middle!
I'm 47 5'4 ,188lbs. I'd like to see 150 again.
Question: How do you cope with a spouse that continues to do what you want to do but can't? (he still drinks)
I need a forum to really boost my moral :)

I hope it's not too late to jump into this discussion. I see it's way over a year old but I'm a newbie :)
I'm 29 and I was almost an alcoholic, lol. Unlike everyone on here that loves their wine, I can't stand the stuff. It is gross to me, same for beer. My addiction was (IS) Vodka. Shots...I can drink way too much and I sober up fast, it sucks. I wish I was a lightweight! Anyway, me and friends normal routine was drinking Fri/Sat nights (usually both) and do karaoke. It was what made my weekend fun.
It's also what I'm missing the most on this "diet"...but i have to say I think the vodka helped put on the 30lbs Ive gained this year. I need to figure up how many calories a full bottle of vodka would have in it b/c I could kill it in about two and a half nights, if the parties lasted late into the night of course.
Anyway, this is my third weekend on the diet and also my third weekend without a drink. I'm hoping to see some good results this Tue when I weigh. I lost 8lbs the first week and only ONE HALF last week, so you can imagine how frustrated I was. I wanted to drink so bad but I was afraid to so I didn't this weekend either...if I don't lose some this Tue I might snap!
Actually, we are scheduled to have a get together next Sat night where I might have a few drinks...but I will def make them weak because I'm working out so hard and i'd hate to blow that for a night of a buzz...it really isn't worth it, I just wanted somewhere to vent and say how much I miss drinking. I will admit it fully to all of you b/c some of the posts seem to miss it as much as I do. The weekends are so blah now without it! I think "well just have a drink" but I'm trying so hard to lose weight that i'm *that* motivated...and when the scale doesn't show the results i'm hoping for it really is heartbreaking!
Bottle of vodka? Depends on the size of the bottle and the proof of the spirit. As an example, a typical 1 litre bottle (@ 80 proof):
2310 kcal (approx) or about 2/3lb!
