alcohol and weight-loss?

Quote  |  Reply
So last night, it was my friend's birthday and we had a little celebration. I didn't drink too much, about 4 coolers in span of 5 hours (my tolerance is high and for my standards, this is quite moderate).
When I got home from the get-together, I had this terrible jittery feeling all over my body and my heart was pounding so hard I thought I might be having a heart attack! It was very very scary. I kept taking deep, deep breaths and I finally fell asleep.
I have never experienced this type of reaction before. There are times when my head feels dizzy and spinning because I drank too much (=P) but never had my heart beating and pounding so much. I thought my heart was going to rip out from my chest and get stuck on the ceiling or something!!!!
any ideas?

could be the sugar and not the alcohol.  if you've been eating healthier, your body will start to react to sugar in weird ways.

maybe you are right! because I did have excess amount of sugar yesterday. I stopped by a pastry store =(
thanks!
Yeah it could be sugar.. or if you have changed any medications or vitamins. You would be amazed what reacts with alchohol.
i felt like that before but I was on vicaden...i think i spelled that right...its a pain killer because i had a slipped disk and i was in a lot pain...so one night i had a beer and my heart rate went up and i felt like i was going to have a panic attack or something..later i was told i cant mix that pain killer with alcohol.......my question is are you on any meds? some meds dont mix with alcohol

nope! I am not on any meds.
thanks for suggestions tho! Really appreciated!
You said coolers, I am betting it was a sugar thing.  Nasty sugar in those.

If it happens again, I would see a doctor, people can be allergic to alcohol.
What I used to do when I went out, was order vodka and water, and then mix in one of those individual serving crystal light packets. No sugar, but still got to have a nice drink.

Any hard liquor is sugar free (vodka, rum, tequila, whiskey, etc) but most mixed drinks and beer has tons of sugar and carbs. I was mortified when I researched exactly how much sugar is in those mixers, and bacardi silver/smirnoff ice (those used to be my drink of choice - no wonder I never lost weight!).

I had a friend who was a newly diagnosed diabetic, and we went out one night, it was ladies night and drinks were free, and we drank quite a bit...she passed out and had to be taken to the ER...it was because of her reaction to the sugar, not the alcohol, because we hadn't had that many drinks.  After that it scared me a lot so I made the decision to get serious about what I let into my body. Don't deny yourself a good time, but don't forget your health either.
