ALCOHOL+weightloss??????? how the heck did THIS happen???

Quote  |  Reply

OK i am going to tell you guys about a weird thing that happened to my weight this week. IT WENT DOWN!! But on wednesday I drank A LOT of alcohol (please don't lecture me.. i know i know it's not good...) and I ate the same amount of calories. The next day i saw a 2 pound weightloss.. what the heck happened?

I think maybe it might've been dehydration or something, because i read that alcohol (especially wine) can dehydrate you. Maybe I was low on water and it was only water weight? (probably) Or did it flush my of the water that I was holding? Once I hydrate myself will the weight just come back?

(I haven't weighed myself since b/c i am TERRIFIED of what the results may be!!)

so yeah.. any answers or personal experiences would be muchly appreciated..Wink

Yeah, it's prooobably just water weight.  It happens to me sometimes--I drink booze, pee a lot, and weigh less in the morning.  It'll come back in a day or so.  If it were fat loss, I'd totally be on a vodka diet, haha.

I love my scale the day after I drink lol. It will go back to what you really weigh. We would all be raging alcoholics if it made us lose weight lol

lol you could say I do my fair share of drinking.....

I tend to be a few pounds lighter the next day when I drink hard alcohol, like captain n diets...but not when I drink beer for some reason! Then it's up right away. haha.

dehydration

the reason that happened is because hard liquor causes your body to be dehydrated, soaking up excess water weight you carry. our body holds a significant percentage of water, so it can change your weight ~5 pounds depending on you and how much you drank. it is not actual WEIGHT loss.

and it doesn't happen when you drink beer because beer is chalk-full of carbohydrates AND consists mostly of water anyway. usually, even 2 glasses of beer will make you heavier in the morning.

i usually notice the same thing with hard alcohol. weird thing is, i know it's not dehydration because i'm always double fisting with a glass of water and have a bf who always makes me drink a liter of water after i drink and before i go to bed.

sometimes the weight actually stays off for me :D

im an occasional binge drinker (no beer!) and have been monitoring my weight closely for 2+ yrs

i notice a drop the next morning and then an upswing the next day (the dreaded hangover weigh in) but it usually balances back out after that 2 what it should be. i drink once a month or so....

It's not JUST dehydration.

The calories in the alcohol rev up your metabolism and burn off the food you ate that day. I asked my doctor one time because I noticed the same thing. But if you drink too much you will end up gaining a LOT of weight.
