To all those addicted to Cereal
I am addicted to cereal. Every single sort. Healthy or sugary. I just can't get enough... i can devour and entire box (with milk) and still want more!
What's the best way the avoid eating cereal? My family eats it as well, so it is always in the cupboard....tempting me. It's also so easy and delicious...ugh! Is there any other alternative?
Cereal is my major weakness...it kills all my "healthy eating" plans and causes me to binge instead...(like this morning...ate 1/2 box of honeycomb cereal and muesli).
i love cereal!!! i eat it every day. you definitely don't need to cut it out! use it's low calories and high nutrition to your advantage. it makes for a great snack. try to stick to ones that are less sugary and do your best to limit yourself to one or two servings (according to whatever is on the side of the box). and eat it with skim milk.
for example, if you eat a few servings of cheerios (any flavor) you'll satisfy your love of cereal, lose weight, and lower your cholesterol. yes, those commercials are right. my TOTAL cholesterol was 72 when i ate cheerios every morning for breakfast. i don't know what it was before, but juding by my diet it was probably high.
I tend to go overboard with cereal. I wont be able to have 2-3 servings. It's more like 7 or 8. If each serving is around 110-130 calories and then add milk for each serving...I've already used up half my days calories in one sitting
. I neeeed a fix..!
I love my cereal too... in fact it's for dinner tonight ohhoho
Portion it out and then put the box away. You could always make up little 'baggies' of a cereal portion, take one, and walk away... Outta sight, outta mind right? xD
Also, have you tried using unsweetened AlmondBreeze with your cereal instead? It's only 40 calories per cup (for regular/vanilla)... versus the regular 110-120 for 1%
I think i'll go portion out the remaining cereal! Thanks...thats a good tip! I'll portion the bags and put the box up in a realllly high cupboard!
Haha that's what I do! All my cereal's kept up in the highest cupboard in the kitchen... and being only 5'4 I have to get a chair to get it :'D
I've found dragging the chair across the kitchen kind of discourages getting seconds.
Goodluck!
Try incorporating cereals into a fruit and yogurt parfait at breakfast or for dessert. I find that a serving of cereal in yogurt can be more satisfying than one in milk. Take one of your pre-portioned baggies, as others have suggested, and layer it on yogurt with fruit such berries, bananas, apple slices, and maybe some cinnamon.
Also, plan times to eat cereal into your daily menu. When you know you've got delicious cereal waiting for you at some point in the day or the next day, you're less likely to overeat it.
oh. i know what u mean. cereal is such a binge trigger for me. i can't stop once i start. i'm so out of control with it. i tried to give it up for lent, but i definitely couldn't make it. i wish i would have because then it would have meant less binging. the only alternative is oatmeal, which i don't binge on. but when there's cereal right there ready to eat out of the box, i tend to grab the cereal before the oatmeal :(
Seems like I've heard something in the past about a sort of carb addiction and that something that helped was adequate protein.
I switched from cereal/oatmeal to an omelet every morning. Just could not leave the carbs to one serving in the morning!! The omelet satisfies me (24 grams of protein-4 beaters-120 calories), the cereal makes me want more food!!
I too had the same problem. Cant restrict the cereal. But for the last two months i controlled it. I eat a bowl of veggies before eating cereal. That makes me feel full and I stop with one serving of cereal.
hi i can understand why you would buy it for the fam, easy and can be cheap , but jesus it can be expensive. esspecially if your going through a box of the good stuff. maybe just let all the cereal in the house run out and switch the family to toast for a week. i keep my cereal at school so i can only have it for breakfest and snacks, maybe even lunch but its not at home to have while inffront of the tv...ok it is now but i am trying to gain weight and introduced a bowl of cereal before i sleep. just get it out of the house
Pre Ed i was the worst cereal binger ever, it was my go to food, and i would go crazy
Same here! I know i'm going to devour it, so i just don't buy it. Problem solved. Now about those chocolate chip cookies.....
