Quote  |  Reply

Hey the names Ashley, I've posted many times on here about my struggle with anoexia and yes i have gone to see a doctor and things of that nature and they all say the same thing, gain weight. i gained a couple pounds, got scared, and lost some. Ive been eating around 1,300 cals a day and i know thats not enough but this is my question....

My knee has been killing me, my eyes always hurt, i have weird bruises all over my body (some arent visible),  the backs of my knees hurt and i just feel horrible. any advice? anyone experienced this before?

In a word, yes.

When you're eating so little, your body terminates non-essential-to-life functions - like joint lubrication and tissue repair - because what you're eating is all going into keeping your brain alive, lungs pumping, and heart beating.

You know the drill. Get to 2,500 kcal, gain weight, eat more fats (lubrication) and protein (joint repair) and carbs (energy for all vital functions). No one on here is going to baby you about this.

i think you'v a nerve coming on here askn for more advice. everyone told you to up ur cals and still your eating weight loss amounts. if you know its not enough then dont come on spouting about it.

im not even gonna answer your question. coz i think you're making ZERO effort to get well

I don't know what your BMI is but high or low you're really not coping well on your own. I think you could really, really benefit from inpatient. Get healthy and most of those mysterious health problems will go away, I'm sure. I know you're tired of being ill and you worry a lot of people here.

Hey, don't listen to fidget. They obviously don't understand what it's like to have a disorder. It could be the things you are eating don't have enough things like fats and carbs. Nuts are really awesome because they have a lot of protein, which will help you build muscle if you are a person who works out, and they have a lot of fat, but it is all the good fat that you need. They are really healthy.

You probably get bruises because you don't have a lot of meat on top of your bones. That will change when you work out more and gain more weight. It's not like you have to gain a bunch of fat. If you eat right and work out, you can still gain weight and get to your healthy bmi level, but not have a gross muffin top or anything when you wear tight pants. It's all just about finding the right types of food and work out regimen for you specifically. Do you eat a lot of natural foods? They really help with the all-around health of your body, and could perhaps solve some of your problems, though I think gaining some muscle will solve more. You don't have to get fat to get to a healthy weight. Just eat right, and try to up your calories slowly. If you go from eating 500 calories a day to 1300 a day, you are going to gain a bunch of fat right away because your metabolism is all messed up. Just gradually make the change in your intake and it won't all turn to fat when you eat it. And again, don't let people bring you down on here just because you have a problem. Even if you have posted before about your problem, you obviously still need advice and help or you wouldn't be writing this. I believe you are making an effort, and I definately understand it is hard to recover from a thing like an eating disorder. Just don't feel guilty for eating more and do the best you can. Ignore jerks.

Do go back to your doctor.   If you're severely malnourished and underweight - and those symptoms would be consistent with both - then you probably need inpatient treatment to get you out of the danger-zone.   Explain everything that's been happening to you... the way you feel, your typical food intake, the aches and pains, your inability to eat more.  The fuller the picture the doctor has the more likely you are to get the right treatment.

i know exactly what its like to have a disorder. iv had one for a long time. Anorexia to be specific. i know exactly what im talking about.

the OP has been told about all the implications of what she's doing to her body. she's worrying ppl here. she refuses to up her cals to a sensible level and to be honest i think if she's not making an effort to help herself .WHY SHOULD WE.

Ashley I am very concerned about you. I want to encourage you to sit down with your parents and tell them you need help. I know you were thinking of going inpatient and I wonder if that can still be an option? These are all signs your body is breaking down. If I recall you are young like 14 and you deserve a full life and don't want damage down that can't be reversed. Think of all you will miss out on as fun too. Doctors don't always know how serious anorexia can be. I remember when I was older then you but young 19 I was brushed off by a doctor and ended up in the cardiac unit a few days later for a week. Please push past the fears you have and tell your family you need help.

Fidget this is what I meant on a post you responded to me with struggles I was facing. You have such an anger in your tone.  I am sure you have this issue with people in your daily life you meet face to face. There is a way to respond to people and like I said you can't tell them things that may not want to hear but need to but in a calm and encouraging way. I went through some of your posts and you have stated you still sturggle with phobias and ocd. Well I used to have this problem and what happens if I came here and told you to just get over it and you know what to do to get past it and had the similar anger in a response that you do with others here on the ed front? You would not appreciate that because this is a real problem for you and for many it is the same with the ed that they can't push through at some points. I would encourage you to talk to who ever you see for treatment therapy wise about your anger outbursts.

Ashley please get the help you deserve and don't forget you have an email buddy here

look abbi, i said what i had to say to you privately.

look ashley the power to feel like this or not feel like this is within your own hands. you know you are eating minimal calories, which are not sufficient to the recovery and repair you require.

you are causing untold damage to yourself and you have been given quite an amount of information regarding cals and general health. you should be in the care of a practitioner and your parents.

coming onto a site like this and announcing that you are aware you suffer from an eating disorder and that you are eating cals that are sustaining weight loss, is bound to attract some frustration. none of us can know what are causing your general health issues. but i think you know as well as we do that low body weight is probably a contributing factor.

Fidget I am not going to respond to you anymore by pm or on the threads after this little note. You do prove my point though with this last response being more calm and encouraging where the previous was very rude. Very up and down in your moods.

Ashley just take care and I hope you are feeling better

Abbi and Emily, do you know what it's called when you coddle someone who refuses to overcome their eating disorder? I believe it's enabling. To coo, mother and go "it'll all be okay!" and worse, to say something as stupid and unfounded as "if you jump from x to y you'll gain fat!" is going to make her even more scared or unwilling to do anything. Furthermore working out at a low BMI can make her physical condition worse.

Either way, I think Fidget had right to say what she did. Ashley has made many posts essentially asking for permission to continue in her disorder. You cannot make someone help themselves and to be frank, I do not think Ashley is trying very hard. Inpatient, like Abbi said, would be ideal. Jumping down the throat of someone doling out some hard facts is not.

Play nice.

Lala I agree that she should not be babied through this and needs to hear that she is in immediate danger and needs more help ASAP. I felt nothing wrong with Fidgets point here or even when she made the comment to me in my post. What I did find wrong was how she approached it. You can be harsh and tell people what they need to hear but not in a rude way by telling someone they have nerve posting. Ok this has been beaten to death but wanted to reply to you lala. The point of this post is that the person here needs more help cause things are not changing. I hope Ashley you will come back to this post with some plans of how to move forward in recovery

you guys please...ashley has asked for your advice and help...she doesnt just want to read a bunch of posts on you guys arguing!

dont tell someone underweight things that will scare them, dont tell them to workout when this will hurt them, dont scold them and tell them not to come back, dont upset them with your frustration, and also dont tell them its okay just try harder...it will make them think its perfectly fine to be doing what theyre doing

Having an ED is hard to overcome...you have to be a strong and overcome another side of you that you dont want.  At the moment the ugly side is taking over and is so much stronger than the other more beautiful side of you.  You must feed this hidden beautiful side so it can become healthy and strong and shine through and kick the ugly side in the ass.  Its hard yes, but not impossible.

There are many people on here that have beat this horrible thing and many, including me, who are currently working on it.  Hun, you know i care about you so much and that i have so much love for everyone on here which is why i am going to tell you what you must do.

ASHLEY GO BACK TO THE DOCTOR AND TELL THEM YOU NEED INPATIENT TREATMENT.

You cannot do this alone obviously and you cannot do this with the way your house situation is currently where your mother is no help with her dietingand your sister also dealing with her own eating issues..it is not the proper place for you to be in at the moment when you are in such awful health.  You need to do this, you need to be strong.  You are well enough to see that you need help and ask us what to do, we have told you, now do it.

to all of you that have given up on me today...

i used rel oil (:

haha i know i shouldnt be in a good mood since you guys all probably think im not trying to gte better but i really am.

today i had 500 clas at every meal and a glass of light soy milk in between.

i dont know if each meal was 500 but it came close to it. im sorry to frustrate you guys i just like seeking help and ive gone to my doctor who doesnt help as much as you guys. i just thought since i see all of your great inspiring posts on everyone elses pages, that i might get some in return. sorry for upsetting you guys and hopefully my next post will be a good one. i havent even had my snack yet (which is usually my biggest meal of the day) and ive already hit about 1,500 cals for the day.

i kicked ed in the butt today (:

Keep going back to the doctor.  If your doctor is unhelpful, find a different doctor.  Not all GPs are clued up on eating disorders and some are better than others.  Talk to the people closest to you for advice and support.... parents?... friends?   When you're not feeling strong they can encourage you and, if you're not doing well, they can get you the help you need.

You're doing really well eating more but I don't think you can just 'guess' that you're getting 500 cals at each meal, you need proper supervision... people that know what they're doing.... so that you're hitting the marks from now on.  Again, the people close to you could help you by measuring out food and counting the calories.

Keep going back to the doctor

..... apparently the "support" component is lost on some people in this forum. Sad state, ladies.

I agree with what most others have recommended in terms of seeing your M.D. and speaking with anyone you consider to be a social support in your life.  You sound bright, and the fact that you're not only aware of the issues, but actively seeking advice is great. I hope you begin to feel better soon. While I agree that you may want to consider finding another doctor if you don't feel that your current MD is addressing your concerns adequately (ex: "they all say the same thing, eat more" etc.), part in parcel of the scope of your MD's influence however, is also highly dependent on the patient's (your) willingness to follow medical advice that's given to you.

All the best and keep us posted!

thanks guys, today i added my calories on here before my snack and yes ive had 500 or more at each meal (:

ive noticed im in a better mood too.

p.s does anyone like soy milk? i tried it for the first time today and almost died it was so delicious! my first time having anything but water at a meal!

aw ashley these past two days seem to have been great for you!!! im proud...keep trying fear foods and adding little things here and there until you at least get to 2500.  Ive had regualar soymilk and gagged((like when i was 8 though lol)) but a few weeks ago i had vanilla soy milk and i LOVED it...however im not allowed to buy it cuse one...everyone else in this house hates it and two...its lower calorie than milk...and i need ma cals =]  if you dont have a medical reason for not having whole milk...i suggest that as a next step along with idk maybeee 600 cals at each meal.

also yes go back to your doctor...still no luck?? find another one.  you really have to search to find a good doctor you like..and develope a great relationship with them..this will help too.  Like it took a while for me to find a good doctor but i love the one i have =] shes so good with this stuff and understanding and not completely incompitant to everything..ha but i have bad skin...acne breakouts here and there..and i have yet to find a good dermatologist!!! so it just shows that some people are so much better than otherss...

Weird bruises all over your body can be a sign of liver failure. It may not be, but then again maybe it is. Go to the doctor, not a forum.
