Where have all the big girls gone?

Quote  |  Reply

Greetings,

Two years ago when i initially joined this forum, a majority of its members were overweight significantly. Are there still groups out there for the people that have over 100lbs to lose? i've been reading so many posts in the weightloss section of the forums, but from my perspective, they are mostly from normal sized girls.

I'm thrilled to see so many young girls in this community, dealing with their self-image issues, and struggling with their size 0's and those last 10 pounds... however, i simply cannot relate. For there is typically the number 2 that preceeds my 0, when referencing my waistline. i'm looking to lose ten times that amount at least...where are the groups that have 100 and more pounds to lose?

Are you still out there? Are there girls at 5'2" that tip the scales over 200lbs?

There's so many posts, and i wonder if the hierarchy couldn't use a bit of tweaking...because it can feel a bit lonely and disheartening. I feel like i'm trying to find a size 22 pant at the Gap...just sifting through all the sizes that wouldn't fit around my thigh.

Where are the girls that shop at Lane Bryant and Ashley Stewart??

=)

Fortunately for us and unfortunately for you, a lot of the short girls who were trying to lose a hundred pounds or so have already done that, or lost a majority of their weight.  I'm already at a 76 pound loss, only 24 to go.

There're still a few groups around (check in the games and challenges forum or motivation forum) of people looking to lose a lot of weight, and there're still plenty of girls around that're still shopping at Lane Bryant, Torrid, and Ashley Stewart.  You've just got to do some searchin'. :)

We are here...I am involved in a group called

Girls in their 20's who want to lose about 100 pounds --I'm not sure how to post a link to it--but hopefully you will find us and join us!

I'm 22 and tipping the scales in a BIG way, I'm trying to find my footing and start to see some real results, I'm getting desperate to shed the pounds, and while I love Torrid and OldNavy.com I hate shopping in the big girl stores and that we have to pay astronomical prices that other smaller girls can get the same thing for far less. It makes me so mad sometimes.

I also loathe the phrase you're cute for a big girl, as if big girl's cant be cute, or if i was small i wouldn't be cute.

I'm trying to get some healthy meal ideas and think back to what worked for me in the past, I've been on a diet for my whole life and it's not so much that I'm eating junk food all day everyday(minus the last two weeks or so) it's more or less that I'm not nearly active enough and I eat enough to feed a small country sometimes.

Some things that worked well for me before was writing down every morsel of food that entered my mouth, and doing crunches and walking regularly. And just cutting down my food intake.

With all this being said i'm here for you and will talk to you about being a big girl and will motivate you if you need it. :)

Wow! Congratulations Cellulitedelight, that all your hard work paid off, that's excellent for you. It's good to hear some successful stories.

I appreciate the advice to search the games/challenges forum. Back to my searching...

Hey Booster,

Glad to know i'm not alone here, and there are groups around. I'll keep looking =)

is the thread bootser1 was talking about. Come join us.

Greetings Bria,

I can totally empathize with the frustration of having to shop at the big girls stores. I've not shopped Old Navy online, though i have heard they carry my size.

I too am trying to plot out my weekly eating, drafting up a grocery list that can keep me within the calorie goal of 1600 a day. Being the sole grocery shopper and cook in the house, making the changes shouldn't be so difficult. Thankfully, my husband will eat most anything I prepare. So this could be good for both of us.

I've been working on portion control, and cutting back on eating out. I've ordered a bicycle that should be delivered within the week, so I can get off my duff and get outside again. I do like the service this website provides and am looking forward to having an honest assessment of what I am putting in my body, and getting back to eating healthier.

My husband and I have tossed out most the junkfood <he loves his cheesypoofs which I abhor, so it's an easy treat to keep away from> and have replaced them with apples, oranges, and bananas. I used to be a vegetarian, and learned some really great recipes with beans and humus, so I've dug out my old cook books to try out new recipes.

I thank you so much for your offer of support! I plan on utilizing this website and getting a support system in place.

Time to get honest with myself, and work my way towards health.

Do you keep a journal on yourself, to log everything you drink, eat? I see they have some cellphone service, I'll have to look into that. Have you tried it?

=)

yep, there are several groups like that

I am sooo happy to see this thread because I think there are a lot of big folk out there that just don't speak up as much as they use too.

Keep posting, and keep up the great work!!  Cool

I'm 5'2'', and I started trying to lose weight when I weighed about 235lbs. I currently weigh around 216-217, so I still have quite a bit left to lose. =)

It's especially hard, because I'm a wife of a Marine. Part of my motivation is not to be known as the fat wife or anything like that amongst my husband's coworkers. Another part is that I've always been big, but I would like to go back to the smaller side of big (170lbs), if not even smaller (goal of 120-135lbs). So yes. I have quite a bit more weight left to lose. =)

Thanks Ka2007, I guess being a noob, it'll me a bit of time to get adjusted to these forums, and quite a bit of searching to find the groups =)

Greetings Duke,

Thanks for posting, reading your Biography was really inspiring. It looks like i have a lot of reading to do, reading backlogs of posts and other sources of information to see just what it is people are doing that are getting them on the right track.

The current state of the economy is definitely being felt in my home as well. The commute to work for my husband is costly, the grocery bill is ridiculously high, and it's forcing me to tighten the belt with expenditure whist i'm out of work. My low-self-image has been holding me back from finding work, as I am unable to sell myself well when i'm rather down in the mouth.

I need to take this difficult time, and turn it around to something positive. Things happen for a reason, so I'm trying to find that silver lining. =)

I'm right here, just not as big. =P

I can relate...when I was last here (and active, which was this time last year), there were so many big girls here! Now, not so much. I don't really mind because not everyone is going to be in the same situation but it is a bit disheartening!

Don't let what you aren't get you down. I find that that'll just make you really emo. Go to Old Navy and enjoy your size. Better yet, go to Torrid! (I'm more of a Torrid chick than Lane Bryant/Ashley Stewart.)

Hang in there. =D

I've been a " big girl" for the last 10 yrs and refused to admit it the whole time.  I joined a gym 3 times and failed to stick with it.

Recently I had an epiphany, woke up one morning, walked into the gym by my house and joined.  I just decided that I'd had enough of being overweight.  I signed up for personal training sessions, started working out 5 days a week and watching what I ate like a hawk.  Eight weeks and 25 pounds lighter, here I am.  I still have about 80 pounds to lose but for the first time ever, I feel like I will actually reach this goal.

I'm here to give advice if needed since I actually have something to show for my efforts this time.

Good luck!

HI, I'm almost 31, shop at lane bryant and fashion bug plus :P. I started counting calories jan 27th of this year at 277 pounds. I've lost 44.5 and am at 232.5 at the moment. I decided it was time to lose weight after being tired of being the fattest one in my classes at school. And since transferring from community college to university, it was harder to fit in the seats!I've definately noticed that there aren't a lot of bigger people on here who talk much. Not sure why. There are a lot of people who have lost the weight that are great inspirations though!

I second cellulitedelight. I started out with 80 to lose, and am now about 25 lbs from goal. Since I am tall and busty, however, I still have to get tops from large-size stores.

I, too, share agirlost's feeling of alienation when seeing dramatic posts by people who are already at normal weight.

Hello, we are still out there, I'm 5'4" and am over the 200 mark.  I have decided that I needed to so something, and found this site.  I find that is very helpfull in keeping me aware of what I have been eating.  I hope to lose about 130 pounds, but will be happy with what ever I can lose at this point.

No shopping at the Gap for me. I have a Lane Bryant and a Catherines credit card. :)

I am in a weird spot, not heavy enough for most of Layne byrants stuff, yet to big for the size 14/16.....it's frustrating!  I end up shopping at a local store here that has a  "plus size" side and a "0-14 sizes" side.  I can fit into some of the large tops of the "0-14" section, but in the plus size, the tops start at 1X, and since I am pretty flat chested, those tops are usually to big in the bust.  I just feel like a freak sometimes.

Faieiesunshine,

I totally hear what you're saying about the seating at college. I was taking classes at my local community college, and was grateful for how many computer labs i had, simply because fitting in seats was such an issue at my math and english classes. There was only ever 1 "Adult" seat in the room, and it normally was closer to the smartboard then the teachers desk. lol Half the time i felt like i should have been teaching the class. =)

That's amazing and wonderful to hear of your success! What is your calorie intake? The plan i've set myself up on thru cc is a 1600 calorie intake a day. I'm trying to incorporate more water into my diet as well.

Back in '95 when i first when to university i became a vegetarian and lost over 70 pounds. I managed to keep that weight off, until about 8 years ago. Thats when i started putting all my weight back on. =(

I've quit so many bad habits this past year and a half, so now i need to start building new good habits. Glad to hear of your progress! It's definitely an uplifting and motivating thing to hear.
