Is all cholesterol the same?

Does cholesterol in ground turkey affect you like the cholesterol in beef? I was told that I had high cholesterol and to cut out red meat and eat more turkey and chicken. Ground turkey and other turkey products still have cholesterol and they have saturated fat too. So why is it okay to eat poultry and not red meat? How much meat can I eat?
Answer
Every animal food has some cholesterol but it's not all the same. Cooked and heat-treated foods contain oxidized cholesterol, which is thought to cause atherosclerosis more than the cholesterol produced by the body. Cholesterol in food is unrelated to its fat content. For instance, 3 oz of very low fat turkey breast has as much cholesterol as 3 oz of fatty ground beef. To reduce the absorption of dietary cholesterol, eat more water-soluble fiber found in oats, citrus fruits, apples, barley, psyllium (Metamucil, etc.), flax seeds, and beans, and to undo the damage from oxidized cholesterol eat foods high in antioxidants, which are widely found in vegetables, fruit and other wholesome foods.
