it's not "bad", but you may be missing out on other nutrients. maybe try switching things up a little (vegetables, meat?).. and make sure you're getitng enough calories.

um, yes, that is bad. that is very bad. i'm not sure where to even start. someone else, please...?

Oh, I completely agree with blueberry_lips.  I'm not sure where to start either.  For one, you are not getting enough calories in a day, unless you are eating a lot of oatmeal and cereal.  That would be the reason you are loosing weight.  And you are not getting enough nutrients from your food.  It's fine to really enjoy a certain food and eat it a lot, but be realistic, you know you need other foods in your diet.

good lord. okay, you're lacking calories, fats (milk isn't going to cut it, and what about omega-3s?), vegetables, protein (again, not enough from milk unless), and tons and tons of vitamins and minerals. oh, and a healthy lifestyle. sorry, maybe that's rude, but what about restaurants and friends? i hope you can have some fun trying out new foods.

I eat alot of it and sometimes gain if I have too much go lean crunch so

I though it was alright.

Definitely start eating more.  Plus you may want to start taking a multi-vitamin.  So you get all the vitamins you've been lacking.  Try incorporating some lean meats, fruits and veggies into your diet.  People may think eating meat makes you fat, but in actuality it aids in weightloss as it takes more to metabolize.  You also need the protein so your body doesn't start eating up it's muscle, which slows down your metabolism.  Also try eating more veggies, more fruits, especially veggies.  They have a lot of vitamins and nutrients.  Also try adding more fish into your diet, salmon preferably and tuna.  And oils, extra virgin olive oil preferably.  Eggs are also very healhty, its okay to have atleast one a day.  You need a variety of healthy foods from almost each food groups, to get you the weight loss you want, and get there in a healthy way.

If you truly thought it was alright, you would not have come on here and posted your question to see if it was okay, hmm? Obviously you KNOW already that it is not okay and just want validation... Well, honey, sorry you are not going to get it. You need way more nutrients- no fats, not enough protein, fiber, there is no balance. Balance is KEY. Perhaps as a start, make a green smoothie with 3 servings of veggies (baby spinach, lettuce, carrots, pumpkin) and 2 of fruit (one of them should be banana to help overcome the veggie flavor) plus 1 cup of full-fat yogurt (I use lite-n-fit though since I get enough fats in my diet). I would not use this as a crutch though, you also need variety of veggies and fruits. Beans/legumes are a great and cheap way to get protein if you do not eat meat/fish.

I know this is a little melodramatic but here it is:  you don't have to live like this!

The joy of calorie counting is that you have the freedom to eat ANYTHING you want, in the right portions and frequency.  You cannot continue living on what you are eating for long periods of time without causing harm.  You have nothing in your diet but fiber and calcium.  Figure out how many calories you're aiming to eat, have what you are eating now for breakfast, and flesh out your diet with lean protein, different colored veggies, and even some fat.  There are about a thousand veggies out there, and more ways to count for preparation.  You'll find something you like, eventually!

Yes, it's bad.  Sure you are loosing weight. Your not eating a balanced diet and probably not even close to enough calories. Is that all you plan on eating for the rest of your life? If not why bother. You will loose weight but gain it all or more back when you start eating again. Look into clean/balanced eating. Figure  out how many calories you need a day. Subtract 500 from that number to loose a 1 a week if you need to loose. What are you stats?

How long have you been doing this? I know some days a person just doesn't feel like eating, and as long as your diet is healthy throughout the month a day or two here and there where you just have breakfast and a snack wont hurt you but we are talking only a day or two.

The foods you describe are healthy but incomplete. You could eat enough of them to provide an adequate number of calories, particularly if you load up on the oatmeal and use whole milk, but you are seriously lacking in protein and a lot of other nutrients.

Wow, I just said exactly the same thing as half a dozen other people. You should probably listen:-D

Is the hysteria warranted?

The OP's diet is limited but made up of pretty nutritious foodstuff. What exactly is the OP missing out on that is making everyone react so adversely? Simply because it is limited doesn't mean it is calorifically, or nutritionally, deficient.

there are absolutely no vegetables, so very few vitamins except what is fortified in the oatmeal/kashi and the small amount in the apple. No "from the source" vitamins.

the only protien is from the kashi and from the milk - not even half of a day's needs.

the only fat is from the milk - and that is if OP isn't using skim.

How can it NOT be nutritionally deficient?

Of course OP could eat enough to not be calorie deficient, but I got $20 that says they aren't.

Okay, but you need to do it in a way that's both healthy and sustainable. Other posters are right - your food list doesn't sound like you're getting the proper nutrients, and if you're eating this way to lose weight, will you be able to keep it up the rest of your life to stay at a lower weight? What happens when you absolutely cannot force down another bowl of oatmeal? This is why so many diets fail - people restrict themselves in ways they can't keep up, then they gain everything back.

Food is fun! There's a whole wide world of plants out there - try some til you find ones you like. Meat can be marinated, grilled, poached, broiled or replaced with tofu (which can also be marinated, grilled, etc). There are millions of recipes online, many of them reviewed by people who can give you good ideas of what to expect. Don't like to cook? Look for easy recipes that make a lot and freeze well. Don't have a whole lot of money? There are whole sites dedicated to frugal cooking. Don't have a whole lot of time? Check out slow cooker recipes.

I think most people would read your original question and think, "yikes!" But without a little more to go on (what are your goals/limitations/food preferences), it's hard to be too specific as to what you could do instead.

Hello :)

I can see your fairly new to the site, so while I'm a little late, welcome!

It's easy for people on here to jump on you because of your post, but I honestly believe you just need some good advice, not the rudeness you've received from some of these posters. There are plenty of people on here who are underweight, and ask for advice about eating too little when then know very well that is wrong -- I think a lot of people mistakenly thought this of you as you didn't post your stats/other info.

As important as the calories in<calories out equation is for losing weight, when it comes right down to it, what you're eating is severely limiting and in no way sustainable.  Use the tools on CC to determine how many cals you need to eat a day based on your activity level, age, height, and weight.  Estimate your activity level as best you can, and log any exercise you do extra.

Start looking around the forums for info and advice (the ask mary and FAQs are very helpful), and log all your foods you eat and look at your analysis report after a day or two.  Are you getting enough carbs, protein, fats?  what about vitamins and minerals?

Successful weight loss & maintenance isn't a quick process -- in requires patience and research and a lot of honesty with yourself.  It is important not to do your body harm while you lose weight, so you must eat enough, and you must eat a balanced diet.

Best of luck, I'm right there with you in this journey and trying currently to get more protein in my diet >.<
