I was wondering what you all do for exercise in hot, humid, Oklahoma. I have to get up at 6:00 am to walk with my dogs before it is too hot for me. I get heat exhaustion easily in this humidity. My walk with the dogs is not the normal slow, stop at every tree and mailbox. I put my dogs, each over 60 pounds, on a retractible leash, so I can keep walking when they stop. I don't let them stop any longer, except for the inevitable poo stop. I am thinking of also adding an evening version.
I was wanting to "talk" to you all, so I figured this is a good topic to discuss. Do any of you live in Broken Arrow?
I exercise at the gym almost every day. Nice and air conditioned. I also like to swim at the gym in the summer, it just feels natural. In the winter I have trouble getting in the cold water. I did go for a bike ride the other night about 7:30pm. And our walking club meets at 7pm on Mon. nights it's still pretty hot, and we do sweat. Main thing is to listen to your body, don't over do it. Lots of fluids and rest. Heat exhaustion, cramps, IV fluids are no fun. So take care of yourself, use caution in high heat and humidity. Bill Gulick from Oklahoma City.
I'm in Norman.
I work out at home. I have a spare bed room with a treadmill and my weights and bench set up. I also do a Wii workout a couple of times per week. So, most of my workouts are indoors.
I did do a bunch of yard work yesterday, but the cool front from Saturday had brought the temps down to a reasonable level.
I also have a local pool close by and most evenings I walk over and swim a couple of laps. Not really a workout, but it's a nice way to relax for a bit in the evening.
My husband just bought a bicycle and he's been riding a lot. (I'm nnot a fan of biking, so he does that by himself.)
I like to have my husband drop me off at work and then walk home at the end of the day. It has been way too hot and humid for that lately so I walk indoors at work during my lunch hour. We have a long hall in our administration building at WTC. If you make 6 trips down the hall and back it is equal to one mile. I am looking forward to getting back outside for my walks. Peg
It just accured to me, Peggy. That you may know my Husband, David Arles. I don't know if you do, but he went to WTC for his LPN. I also like to walk. But I am not really able to get out much, so my husband got me a tread mill. I like it. I use it two three times a week.
