Is It "All Right" To Do Sauna After Moderately-Intensely Working Out?

Quote  |  Reply

I think I remember hearing that it's not good, actually being FATAL...

We have a sauna attached to our gym's locker room, and I was planning to get in there with my friend after working out.

I'm not too sure whether I'll be doing cardio or weights that day, but yeah...

Only if you don't drink water while doing cardio and then don't drink water while staying in the sauna for a few hours.

Drink enough water during and post-exercise and drink enough while in the sauna, and the increased blood flow and heat therapy can potentially be helpful for recovery.

- Ohhh!!! That's fine then !! I'll just drink a ton of water pre and post work out!!! Thanks a lottttttt!! Really glad to hear that staying in the sauna could help my muscles to recover!!! Laughing

Saunas are probably fine, but avoid steam rooms, those places are like disneyland for bacteria.

I have recently started using the sauna at our gym (which is kept unusually clean-Iv'e seen the later-Money mouthyuck!  I really enjoy it and I have found it really helps with my muscle recovery after a particularly strenous workout session.  Melkor is right though.  It is always crucial to stay hydrated before, during and after workout sessions.  Not only to aid in muscle recovery, but for our general health.

So enjoy the sauna-just like everything else, in moderation and good sense!

My husbands running buddy ran 2 miles on the track, then did a 75 minute power yoga class.  Kept hydrated, then went 10 minutes in the Sauna, and headed for the shower and passed out cold.  and he was naked!!!  Be careful of extremes. Temps/Blood pressure changes etc.

- Surprised OHHHHHH MYYYYYY GOSHHHHHHHH!!!!!! That sounds so scary!!! What is "power yoga" though?? I know "yoga" is just.... stretching, but "power yoga" sounds quite intense and powerful hahahaha.. Wink And when you wrote "kept hydrated," you meant that he was drinking plenty of water, right?
