What if all of your social events involve food?
Asked by sha_angelico on Apr 08, 2009 in Nutrition

How can you lose weight or keep on track if all of your social events with friends involve food, and almost no one eats lower-calorie or lower-fat?  It seems as though the good stuff is more expensive, and I will be the only one not eating the fatty stuff (which I am tempted by).  I don't want to have to stay home because I want to lose weight and no one else thinks about it.

Answer

It’s no fun to be the only one who likes healthy food, but people are changing everyday.  Why not bring a healthy appetizer to the party?  No one will know unless you tell them.  And then, might there be some wholesome foods at the buffet table?  Save some calories for a small portion.  Look over the entire array, including tossed salads, fruit and vegetable trays, bread and grilled meat.  Food does not have to be your focus at the party.  Read about eating smart at holiday parties at About.com.
