Hi, So i have lived in Eastern Europe going on 4 years. I have bounced in and out of my vegitarian state and i am surrently back in, but anyway I was just visiting america and you guys have no idea how lucky you are, the major city i live in has very few health stores, our only "light" products are yougerts, forget about all those fat free, reduced fat, and veg or healthy frozen or prepared foods. I would love to have a Whole Foods it is my dream just to get kashi cereal or a Morningstar burger. When i go to america i crave ben and jerrys frozen yogert and am so happy not to prepare all my health food from scratch.... So just think when it is hard to eat healthy you guys have so many choices....so now i am back at my home and refuse to share some of the goodies a smuggled out.
Good luck on Everyones diets and healthy lifestyles

That's generally true. :)
America, where you can get ANYTHING you want, so long as you can pay for it.

You are not your....hazard of not living in an English speaking country!
Plus we have all those cheap restaurant chains where we can get extra fat on our asses too. ;P
Things have really changed over the past 10 years though. I remember as a kid it was almost impossible to find any vegetarian food at all (in VA) and now my local Safeway has lots of stuff. I had to travel to all sorts of odds and ends just to get some soy!

Even though we have all these healthier options - have you checked out the sodium levels on some of those frozen microwaveable meals??? Pretty high. LOL
I was writing this post because my American friends were surprised when I was in awe by Whole foods type stores (independent too!) and the great stuff you can buy and just that i wanted people to be aware that they are lucky to have these options, yes there are options here, and i enjoy eating shopping and cooking healthy. I am just saying that i was amazed in america how many low fat alternatives and huge grocery stores there are catering to "healthy" lifestyles. It would just be nice to see some of those brands over here. I am glad that you have no problems being vegan in your city but alot of my friends and i do have problems living in ours when the only veg things on the menu are side salads or fried chesses.
certainly i experaince similar thoughts when i'm in the US :) may i ask in which Eastern European country are you?
I Live in Prague, but i found this experience through out Eastern Europe, Scandanavia The Balkens, Turkey, Everywhere i have lived/traveled in Europe, I shouldent drink it anyway, but...... when I was in China it was almost impossible to find diet coke when I traveled away from the very big cities. they just dont do Diet products in other countries. sometimes you want a treat and it would be nice to have a low fat version of my fav treat foods.
The diet, light, healthy lifestyle things are only responses to the obesity glut caused by everything else that makes us fat in this nation.
I go to school in the UK, which is certainly not an underdeveloped country, and I desperately miss US food variety when I'm at school.
ooo... I'm in the UK now as well... and I miss the convenience of being in SoCal and having four types of any store you could want all within a reasonable distance! And things like Jo-Ann fabric... we have two small shops which sell fabric here, and a market stall, but of course there is nothing like the variety found only at Jo-Anns (not to mention all the other fabric/craft stores in CA!)
I live in the UK and i find the choice of foods is very good. although there are not many healthy fast food resturants here, you can always buy it and make your meals at home, or buy ready made sandwhiches!
Easter European food is one of the best in the world; they don?t have so many chemically sprayed fruits and vegetables like in America. They don?t eat the crap you eat ex: burgers & processed food, they cook everything from scratch and they have a huge amount of VEGAN recipes due to their religious believes ? they have a so called lent where they feast a few times a year during many weeks.
As for British food is absolutely vile and it makes me laugh that overpriced food so called organic, people can?t even begin to understand what real food is, because if you did you would stop letting yourselves fooled.
I know how you feel. I like in an island off the coast of Spain.
I grew up in America, and miss so many things I had. It's so hard to find a certain variety. Especially since, I, too, am a off and on again vegetarian.
