all yogurt has probiotics. Not just activia/danactive.

exerpt from http://www.probiotics-lovethatbug.com/activia -lawsuit.html regarding the lawsuit against activia:

...Weiner also appeared aggrieved that Dannon have invented a name for the particular probiotic bacteria that is in Activia. This is something that more and more manufacturers are doing and, whether you like it or not (I don't - because the bacteria already has a name), it is a fact of commercial life.

There is certainly nothing sinister about it. The bacteria that Dannon have trademarked as Bifidus Regularis is simply Bifidobacterium animalis DN-173 010. And a useful strain of Bifidobacteria it is.

Dannon provide plenty of scientific evidence to back up their claim that Activia can help "keep you regular". One study actually used their product and found that Bifidobacterium animalis DN-173 010 "shortens the colonic transit time in healthy women". If you're finding it helpful, then simply continue eating it.

This Activia lawsuit is a war of words - not an indictment against probiotics.

and from: http://www.webmd.com/digestive-disorders/news /20080125/yogurt-maker-sued-over-health-claim s

Those claims focus on probiotics, which are healthy gut bacteria. There are many strains of probiotics; Activia and DanActive tout trademarked probiotic strains.

The lawsuit alleges a "massively deceptive" advertising campaign about those products' "clinically" and "scientifically" proven health benefits not available in other yogurts, states a news release from Coughlin Stoia Geller Rudman & Robbins LLP, the San Diego law firm that filed the lawsuit earlier this week...

and what is other yogurts (in this case, stonyfield): http://www.stonyfield.com/Wellness/probioticc ultures.cfm

The exclusive blend of natural probiotic cultures in our yogurt includes the premium probiotic Lactobacillus Rhamnosus. By definition, yogurt must include the starter cultures Lactobacillus bulgaricus and Streptococcus thermophilus. Other major-brand yogurts include one or two additional cultures. But we add four more probiotic cultures to all our yogurts: L. acidophilus, Bifidus, L. casei, and L. rhamnosus. Our yogurt provides a probiotic powerhouse in every serving!

********

Its good to have a variety in your gut, but you're getting probiotics in every yogurt you're eating.

And saying you patented a strain of bacteria is BS!

probiotic brains are really good for your gut flora.

I love marketing. Wink How else would they be able to sell their over priced yogurt in those tiny containers?

This is shocking information.  Shocking, I tell you!

You mean that runny, disgusting stuff called Activia is not better for me than regular yogurt?  I'm filing a lawsuit.

Are  you positive that there isn't a difference between yogurt with active or live cultures and regular yogurt?

Yes, that is how yogurt is produced. Although some yogurts have been heat treated which kills the bacteria. Bottom line look at ingredient list it should say "live culture" followed by some weird sounding bacteria names.

I always thought 'Bifidus Regularis' sounded like a really fake Latin-esque name for an otherwise boring bacteria that makes you crap more.

I never bought this stuff because it said it'll make you goto the bathroom in two weeks. (or 'regulate' in two weeks) What the? doesn't that just sound like pure ridiculousness? I mean it wouldn't be the yogurt doing the work, most people even with chronic constipation would goto the bathroom at least once during the two weeks... bs. I just get supermarket brands (ralphs have really great yogurts!)

I go with fiber one.
