Allergic to some foods, need ideas...
I am allergic to ALOT of fruits and veggies. It has made it really hard to lose weight in the past. As I get older I seem to be getting more and more allergies to things I used to be able to eat. Here are some of the foods I can think of off the top of my head that I am allergic to:
raw apples, raw carrots, raw potatoes, cantelope, pineapple, raw brocolli, honey dew, coconut, almonds, walnuts, sweet peas, raw pears, raw peaches
I know there are other foods I am allergic to, I remember them when I see them. I am so used to eating junk food because I am not allergic to any junk food.
Now that I am back on the weight loss journey, I want to eat healthy but it is so hard to do when I am allergic to so many things.
Is anyone else allergic to fruits and veggies? Do you have any ideas ways that I can still eat healthy?

Anyone got any ideas? :D
eeewwww! thats tough, and pretty chancy for anyone to really comment on, I would consult a dietitian on that one, or maybe search the internet for a site on this, there must be many people in this same boat!
Wow! You are the bubble girl just like me.
I am allergic to :
every kind of fruit except apples, non food items: ragweed, pollen, dust, any animal that carries dander, the sap from christmas trees, scented lotions, red wine, penecillin, sulfa drugs and a couple of other things I can't remember off the top of my head.
You definetly need to take daily supplements with all those food allergies! I take glyconutrients- Ambrotose from Mannatech.
Eat the fruits you are not allergic to. You can do veggis and dip wit caulifower, red pepper strips (my fav), celery and cherry tomato's. Chicken noodle soup w/out veggis. spaghetti with marinara, hummus and celery or bread sticks, cereal w/ skim milk etc.

Thankyou for your replies. :D
Unfortunately, I can't really offer any advice, but I did want to ask if you know what exactly it is in those foods that triggers your allergy? I ask because a friend of mine in high school was actually allergic to Vitamin C. I know that he was able to get some sort of treatment for it, but I don't remember what it entailed.
Just thought I would mention this in case you hadn't looked into that option. :)

how about the things you know YOU ARENT allergic to??? start there. :)
hey stacey,
I'm allergic to a whole bunch of foods too... celery, sweet pepper, strawberries, kiwi, passion fruit, licorice, pineapple, fish are some from off the top of my head. I actually walk around with a list of my food allergies. I have to find restaurants where I hand over my list and they work around my allergies.
The suggestion of going to a nutritionist sounds really good! And if you can find if your allergies are related then it will be easier to avoid foods that you are more likely to develop a reaction to.
I wish I could be of some assistance.
Good luck!

I like slappy's idea about focussing on what you CAN eat.
question -- do dried fruits set off your allergy? my step daughter is allergic to apples, mangos, etc, but she can tolerate them in dried form.

I was tested by my allergy doctor for food allergies and NOTHING came up! BUT...I do have food sensitivities...
It seems that many foods contain histamine and that is the substance that triggers reactions in people.
All the citrus family has lots of histamine. As does leftover foods-it seems histamine is formed after foods cool. Things like begies and meats and fish and fruit that has been cooked then cooled forms lots of it!
I am also very sensitive to all the nightshade family plants and have severe reactions to hot peppers.
You should get tested to see if you are really allergic not just sensitivew, as it could be anaphylactic and caiuse death.
If you're just sensitive, you should just avoid those foods.

I am allergic to these items. I went to an allergist about a year ago. He did the allergy tests on my arm. My arm swelled up 5 times the size in about 3 minutes. The secretary rushed to get the doctor. He came in and started injecting me with a bunch of needles. He had called the ambulance to come get me. But the stuff he injected me with worked and I didn't need to go to the hospital. My main worry is when I eat a fruit or vegetable that I have always been able to eat and having an allergic reaction. I have always been able to eat sweet peas and about a year ago I ate 2 sweet peas raw. My tongue started to feel numb and just after I ate them I tried to say something to my daughter and I couldn't talk. My throat was closing up on me. My reactions get worse the older I get. Its scary when you eat something you have always ate and all of a sudden you can't breathe. My doctor said all I can do is keep some Benadryl on hand all the time and an Epi-pen. And to call an ambulance as soon as I feel anything wrong because she said because the reactions are getting worse I may be in alot of trouble in a short amount of time if I do have a reaction again.
Sometimes I just feel like I am the only one with allergies to fruits and veggies.

OMG how horrible for you!!! Aww bless, I can't imagine being afraid to eat stuff that's supposed to be good for you. I'm glad you have an epi pen, and am hoping you keep one in every room of the house just in case -- and in your car too? does your daughter know how to dial 911? <<major hugs>>
Have a look at this list

Maybe print it off and then cross off everything you're allergic to. There will be plenty left to choose from!

I was just wondering... are you allergic to latex as well?
I am allergic to citrus, histamine, rosins and resins...but not latex.
My reactions are also getting more severe as i get older. It is an immune system breakdown, from years of fighting reactions your body weakens. One of the only things I have been able to think of to help is to beef up immunity with herbal products like echinacea, and Omega-3 oil from flax, borage oil, and lots of good for you foods and vitamins.
Oh - and lots of water is key to keeping the system flushed out.

Hi there..
If you're allergic to a lot of RAW foods, you might have what's called Oral Allergy Syndrome. I have that.. it's something about the shape of the protein in the raw version of the food.
The good news.. if that's it, you should be able to eat some of those foods cooked.. assuming you don't have a regular allergy to them..
For instance.. I can't eat raw peaches or apples, but if I cook them, I'm just fine.
Good luck!

Here's something that might be a handy tool for you
The World's Healthiest Foods

Have you all heard of the Sage Allergy Test? www.foodallergytest.com. It's tests delayed reactions in foods... typical allergy testing doesn't do that.
Most insurance companies cover it. I just had mine done. I'm IMPATIENTLY waiting for my results.

I am allergic to all fruits and veggies.
I used to have quite a few food alergies. I went to my naturopath and she did NAET treatments on me and they are all gone now. It is great to be able to eat anything I want to except, as I have said before, that I eat anything I want.;-)
Good luck

I can not believe it, I thought I was the only one. I seem to be allergic to all fruit, vegetables, pine trees, mulch, hay, mold spores, aspartamine, preservatives, and the hard one to get around is citric acid!
I had to use my epi pen on Saturday night. My sister did it and then the ambulance gave me more epi and the hospital gave me steroids. I can not believe how I felt and it was all because I got a little bit of cherry juice from a sundea on my whip cream.
I am afraid to go outside it makes my face itch, I am afraid to eat anything other than cheerios, chocolate chips and milk.
What do you guys do?
Thanks for any input
