I rarely ever eat red meat (like every other month when I go out or something) but the last three days I've been in a circumstance where I'm visiting relatives with my family and we all go to a burger place (In N Out 2 times, the Habit once) and these last three days I've had a burger. I fit it into my calorie intake, and I got it once lettuce wrapped, or I'll get it without sauce and cheese, so I'm not going over calories, but EVERY time I ate the burger my stomach would hurt for the next 4 hours or so. Did I develop an allergy to red meat? Same with pancakes. I don't eat them, but I had two earlier today and that made me feel sick too. Weird thing is, I used to eat them all the time but now I feel sick when I eat them. Is it a mental thing from knowing that they're bad for you? I stay away from fried foods....is it because my body isn't used to it? I don't know what's going on but I've felt horrible from the burgers.

maybe its food poising instead of an allergic reaction?
I ate at two different restaurants?
the reaction could last a long time

Well if you havne't been eating much sugar and you ate syrup on your pancakes that could make you feel nausous....and hamburgers have alot of grease in them so if you have been watching what you ate and only eating lean meats and not really greasey food that could cause it.

Red meat is fairly hard on the gut.  I have been semi-vegetarian for a while now, and if I do fall off the wagon and have a burger, I definitely feel it.  And steak is even worse.
It's not an allergy... your body just isn't used to eating that stuff any more. It's probably also volume - more food at once than you're used to eating will make you feel quite ill.
I never really liked red meat as a child, my parents or grandparents often over cooked it.  It was hard to chew.. and didn't taste all that awesome either..

Anyway, once I found that I like it really close to rare, I have a fondness of it.
But because I don't eat it often, I have an intolerance, and it makes me have awful tummy aches for hours after I eat it.  So if someone offers me red meat, I just decline and say it's hard for me to digest.

So it's more like a once and awhile thing.... because I know I will suffer if I eat it.

Completely agree with you on this Kajikit.
If I eat out after not having something fast-foody for a long time, my stomach feels bloated and like I ate a brick. It's awful. It's just your body's reaction to the relatively unhealthy food you just fed it.
I could be really off on this, but could you be pregnant?  A girl friend of mine couldn't be anywhere near red meat when she was in her first and half way through her second trimester.  She actually is pregnant again and she knew she was pregnant this time before she took the test because of the same reaction to red meat.

I went veggie for awhile, and once I went back to eating meat, I had the same type of reaction - and it had nothing to do with pregnancy.  Apparently, it's pretty normal.  If you do plan on eating red meat in the future, try to work it into your diet more frequently, eating just little bits, especially for the first while.  It worked for me.

Good luck!

That's quite a common reaction for vegetarians. Meat is much harder for your body to digest than most other foods. The few times I have eaten meat (when visiting people who don't really understand vegetarianism and I don't want to offend them) in the last few years it hasn't sat well on my stomach at all.

No, it is not a "mental thing knowing that" they are bad for you.

I have had problems with red meat since I was a child, so I rarely eat it. Chicken bothers me, too, but not as much. And I don't eat pork; just don't like it. Fish is great, though. It seems that animal proteins are just hard on my system.

I also have gluten-intolerance issues. I'm not a celiac, just have to be careful with the amount of gluten. Again, pancakes have always given me problems, even as a kid.

Acknowledging what your system likes best is a good first step. Then select those foods that make your system work. Just because everyone else seems to be doing okay with a food item, doesn't mean that they really are doing well with it.

Listen to your body.

I am not a vegetarian, but i don't eat red meat or pork.  I eat turkey, fish, chicken, ok, ok, so my favorite is a couple of pieces of pepperoni (i know horrible) on my pizza which I have like once every 6 months.

Since you havent had red meat your body probably took it as being foreign so it was just hard to digest, especially since you mentioned you had it three times in a short amount of time, it might have just been too much for your body to take.

Hope you are feeling better!

Take care.
