Allergic to water
No joke.
Well, not actually water itself, but the fluoride they add to our tap water. I changed my toothpaste, but there weren't any changes to my reactions until I switched to bottled water on top of that
What a pain it is to not be able to fill my water bottle at the water fountain at school or the gym or order a glass of water with a meal when we go out to eat. It does stop me from drinking fountain pop since it's mixed with tap water though.
Anyone else have allergies that make weight loss more difficult?
wow. That must be such a challenge to deal with. I myself am allergic to gluten, dairy, and sugar. I can still eat all of them if I want to, but it definitely doesn't help with weight loss. In fact, before I knew I was allergic to these things it was virtually impossible for me to lose weight. I was unable to digest the food which messed up my cell function, "gumming up" the system.
It's difficult because some people don't understand how hard it is for others to lose weight.
I'd imagine that's much worse to deal with. I am addicted to milk and while I know there are substitutes - nothing does it for me like like the real thing. I guess you get used to it though and make do. I didn't eat meat for five years, by choice, and while finding meatless food was sometimes a challenge, I eventually didn't notice. At least you figured out what the problem is and found a solution.
What do you do for a sugar substitute?
I'm allergic to almost everything with fur and if I'm not allergic to their dander, then I'm allergic to the grass and tree particles they pick up in their fur while outside. Over the years I've grown a distaste for fuzzy critters and have taken a liking to lizards....probably because of my allergies. Have you had anything like that happen with the food you eat?
Yeah. Like you, I hardly notice it any more. Every once in a while, I'll get a craving for some bread, and it's difficult to shoulder off. I used to be a vegetarian too, but once I discovered my allergies, I disovered it would be impossible for me to live a healthy lifestyle without meat. For whatever reason, my body thrives on protein--meat, fish, eggs.
I try and avoid sugar all together actually. From time to time, I'll indulge in cookies or a piece of pie. It doesn't really have much of an effect on me as long as I take supplements to keep my body in balance. As far as natural sugars go, I would avoid those too, but giving up fruit is just impossible. I don't even notice a difference when I eat natural sugars, so I don't see much of a problem.
When I eat bread, the weirdest thing actually happens. My doctor calls it "getting drunk". And though it's not exactly the same, a piece of bread will have me going crazy. My head will swirl a little bit and all of a sudden I'm saying anything that pops into my head. Plus my balance goes out the window. It's kind of hilarious, but I don't do it that often.
I love animals, so I couldn't imagine being allergic to dander. To be honest it's one of my fears. When I get my own place I want a big dog haha. Do you have a lizard yourself? I actually have a pet ball python. They're great for owners with allergies!
And what happens if you do consume water or toothpaste with fluoride?
In a way, the bread is kind of cool. While your friends load up on the calories of alcohol and get the negative side effects...you could just munch on bread :)
When I drink tap water or use fluoride toothpaste, I get these small white pimple looking things on my lips, and red bumps on my tongue that are incredibly painful. My dentist said my enamel is nice and hard, I have no signs of decay and because I keep my teeth in really good condition, I was told that I'd be okay without it.
I don't currently have any lizards, but I probably will someday. I live in a tiny apartment and am not home much, so I'll probably wait until the boyfriend and I get a house and my schedule slows down.
