ALLI the FDA approved diet pill......
I haven't tried it, as I am WAY too afraid of the side effects. *Ahem,* ...certain undesirable kinds of "leakage"...
But my mom's friend took it, and she did loose some weight. And according to her, she didn't experience any unplesant side effects.
So I guess everyone's different.
I stopped taking Alli after that and still have almost a full bottle at home that I will never use. Losing weight should be a positive and not a negative experience. My suggestion is to start to eat healthier and the weight will come off.
Unless you can live with having to watch every single gram of fat each meal and living in fear of embarrassing yourself, do not take Alli.
Forget the diet pills, the Alli, the diuretics... eat well, eat enough and not too much, and exercise. That works. It's not quick, but it works.
I know I'm too scared to try it, that's for sure, and I'm the 'magic pill' queen. I think I've tried just about everything.....only thing I ever had good luck with was Phen/phen, went from 210lb to 110lb in about 8 months, along with working out 4 times a week with a personal trainer and having a nutritionist, and had to force myself to eat on that stuff (you really could 'eat just one Lays potato chip, lol). That was 10 years ago, didn't gain all that weight back, but did end up 160l plus. Dang I miss that stuff....never had any side effects from it and after it was banned the doc tested me for microvalve prolapse and a host of other things....didn't find anything wrong, thank goodness. Closest thing to a 'magic pill' I've ever seen.

orlistat (Alli) works in a similar way to how Olestra worked (and somewhat how Sucralose) works - you keep your body from absorbing a substance - in this case fat. But if you keep ingesting fat what can your body do with it? Yep, it comes out.
Personally I wouldn't look at this unless you were talking about someone who is morbidly obese and under a high-fat diet.
Because if all the person ate was sugar I doubt this would have an effect.
I've been reading Taubes book "Good Calories, Bad Calories" with a pretty skeptical eye. It's very pro-Atkins and pro-research. Which is interesting because in my limited sample Atkins appears (at least here) to have fallen out of favor.
I'm not convinced that his book successfully challenges that calories are calories but it might have something to say about fat intake and serum cholesterol.
This product forces you to avoid fats by causing "negative side effects" when fats are consumed (I.E.: bathroom issues...)
Why not save the $70/bottle and just start cutting out the fats on your own. Eat healthy and exercise and you will lose weight.
well, besides being scary, along with drugs like this you still will need other modifications ... for instance, say someone is overweight because they are consuming 3500-4000 calories per day with a relatively sedentary lifestyle. And of that calorie intake, 40% is from fat. If that person limits their fats to avoid "issues" with the drug, but instead replaces those fat calories with more carbs or even with more protein (healthier, yes, but) ... if the calories per day stay the same, then guess what ... no weight loss.
I've read through this chain and there is a lot of miserception about this drug.
- I've been taking Alli since July 4th and by following the diet recommended (which is low fat and low cal) I have avoided TE's.
- It doesn't claim to be a "miracle drug". All it says that if you follow a healthy diet, exercize and cut fat, then you will lose weight. They say if you follow directions, if you would have lost 10 pounds through normal efforts, with Alli you will lose 15 instead in the same amount of time.
- Part of Alli is the online system to help you determine your fat and calorie intake. Once again, if you stay within the calorie and fat intake they recommend for your body type, then you will avoid TE's. Yes, it is a motivation to avoid TE's that helps keep people within their fat intake levels. However, if you stay within your goals and exercize, you will still lose weight faster with Alli than without it.
- I have been on Alli since July 4th. I have lost 56 pounds. I exercize, watch my fat and calories, and take Alli. I like the CC website, so I use it to record my progress and my food intake and exercize rather than the Alli website. That's really all I have been doing. I live a vegetarian lifestyle, but it is not necessary to be succesful with or without Alli. Just keep in mind what Alli is, read the literature that is online about it, follow the program, and it really does work!
However anyone does it, I wish everyone success in their efforts to live a healthier lifestyle!
I am on Xenical which is the full strength version and have lost about 50lbs in the past year. HOWEVER< it is not a miracle pill..it is more like training wheels for those of us that have other issues that make is more difficult to lose weight (for example, I have polycystic ovaries).
The side effects you hear about ONLY happen if people don't follow the rules. It isn't a pill you can just take because you had a 'bad' meal. It is something you take every day and if you stay within the recommended fat limits you don't have any issues. It is only those people that decide not to follow rules (which in my view is a bit dumb when taking a medication) that get those problems. Like I said, I have been on it a year and I have only had one 'emergency' moment and that was near the start when I had a meal that I did not cook.
The pills totally do NOT do the work for you. I still have to eat under 40grams of fat a day, I still have to count my calories and I still have to exercise . Like mentioned above me, I have largely moved to a vegetarian lifestyle (but not totally) because I know I can eat a lot more for my fat allowance that way. So, like I said - training wheels.
I am actually taking the Alli Pill right now.....and I haven't (knock on wood) had any weird side effects. Though I am not eating anything fried or fast food. Well I had one slice of pizza about a week ago. Nothing happened when I did. I have lost weight sense I have been on it, but I don't know if it was the pill or the calorie intake I have been on. So I agree with the girl who said it's different for everyone. Just be carefull if you take it, I am :) Good LUCK!!
