Weight Loss

I was just looking at GNC's website (I get vitamins there), and I noticed this ad for alli. I've always been suspicious of weight loss drugs. Has anyone heard anything about this one? Possible dangers?

There is some information right from the Alli website. I too am normally suspicious of diet pills, but this one is the only FDA approved over the counter pill. And it doesnt claim to be a miracle pill that will make you drop 30 lbs in 30 days or any of the other claims. They tell you right from the get go that the most important part of the plan is you. They encourage reduced calorie & fat intact & exercise.
To be honest, if I were thinking about taking a "diet" pill, this would be one that I would check into.

It just seems to be low dose xenical. Look up the side effects of xenical and expect to have some of them. FDA approval doesn't mean it's effective in the long run.
I always read company websites with reservations. What else are they going to say but good things. The fact that they encourage dieted and exercise along with the pill, just means to me that you can do it without the pill. So why give them my money?

They encourage a low fat diet because otherwise you would be shitting on yourself, literally. Read some of the side effects! (ex: uncontrolable bowels)
First of all...I agree with the statement of why spend money on something you can do yourself. Myself, I have dont usually have a problem sticking with low fat, so I dont think I would spend my 60 bucks or so on it. But for others, it may be worth it to them. To each thier own.
And no, I realize FDA approval doesnt guarantee success, but it has a lot better chance of working than other diet pills making crazy claims. If you were to take a pill to aid in weight loss, wouldnt you rather take one with the FDA's approval??
Yes, the side effects can be quit nasty (so I have read) if you consume more than 15g of fat per meal. I guess for some ppl, thats the help they need to keep their fat intake under control.

Alli is basically on over the counter, milder version of xenical. It "blocks" a small part of fat from your intake, the end result....greasy anal discharge. Personally, I say, just cut the fat in the first place. For the amount the drug actually blocks, you could cut your daily fat intake by 10% .....
I started alli a few days ago - and its been great! I have had NO side effects and I only have about 17 pounds to go until I hit my goal weight. For those who were contemplating doing this WHILE cutting calories/fat intake - do it.
Good luck to all!!!!
Good luck to all!!!!
I bought it from Costco but after reading the side effects, got scared half to death and returned them before opening the package.
Besides my problem isn't really eating fat. It's carbs (LOVE THE CARBS!) and this particular medicine would help with that? Plus I don't think it does anything to suppress appetite? What do you think about these questions gracemael? I would like to take something that helped with appetite without bad side effects. I have never found a successful diet pill.

Anytime the FDA approves anything I tend to duck and cover.
Obviously, from the amount of so called safe meds they approve that then kill people off or destroy body parts regularly I would rather not try anything that is not life saving that the FDA approves. Even with the things my DR. tells me I have to take I still go for a natural remedy first, if that fails then I may or probably wont take a prescribed FDA approved med. I know, I am a rebel LOL.

I like it, I am finishing week 2. It is helping me realize what healthy portion sizes are, and also as a result of being scared of "treatment effects" I am being very disciplined. I find that if I really measure out my food and only eat that cup and a half of pasta, that does fill me up, before I was more of a bottomless pit eater. To each there own I say. I hope not to feel the need to be on it for more than say 2-3 months. p.s. so far no treatment effects, I just had to state that for the record :)
As a general rule of thumb, I tend to stay away from any product that recommends that you don't wear white pants and that you bring a change of underwear with you, due to anal leakage. That's pretty much my life's goal, don't crap myself in public. Alli is great if that is not your goal...
LOL!
