I starting using Alli 1 week after starting my 1400-1600 calorie diet plan. I have seen some great results with it and have found it is making my weight loss more effective and quicker. I haven't had a lot of the negative side effects because I eat foods that are low fat. I keep saying that I am the player in the weight loss game but the Alli is just the referee keeping me on on track. Except for the higher price, I highly recommend Alli. Just follow the instructions!
That's great! Congrats!
I just am curious--how do you know that it's making your weight loss more effective and quicker? I completely believe you, but I'm wondering what signs you're getting.
I too have a question.
How long are you planning to be on Alli? I am curious to know if once you stop using it will your weight yo-yo back up? Just curious.

That's great and very interesting -- congratulations! Can we hear more stats -- starting weight, amount of exercise and how much you've lost? (Oh, and any side effects?)
I am thinking about giving Alli another shot myself. Thansk!
What is the product supposed to do? Appetite suppressive? If it is what will happen when you go off? Remember if it sounds too good to be true it probably is.
Ah, so you haven't had that explosive diarrhea I've heard so much about ;)?

I have wondered this too and this is exactly why I avoid all pills that claim to help you lose weight (well that reason and because I don't believe their claims).
Congratulations on finding something that helps you, at least Alli is FDA approved :]
That has been my question with Alli, if it blocks the absorbtion of fat, what happens when you reach your goal, stop taking it, and your body can absorb fat regularly again. Will it be all fat crazy and hold onto it for dear life?
I am glad you are having a positive experience on it. Please keep us posted, if you dont mind being the guinea pig. I would like to hear how it continues to work :)

Prevent you from absorbing an essential nutrient.
Alli disrupts one of the enzymes responsible for the breakdown of fat. It is not a complete block, however. As a result, if you eat 10 grams of fat, about 6 il be absorbed. It's what happens to the stuff that isn't absorbed that causes the side effects. The leftover fat stays in the colon acting as a lubricant, moving the stool along faster, resulting in the explosive diarhea.
So it's main purpose is not to block the absorption of fat, but to make you not want to eat that much fat, and hence lose weight. If a normal diet contains 60-70 grams of fat, you need to be taking less than 40 grams to avoid the complications. It is also recommended to take a vitamin supplement to account fo decresed aborption of the fat soluble vitamins A,D,E,K
A friend of mine didn't realize you had to willingly cut your intake, and he ended up with a nice big gatorade orange spot on his trousers.

it's a greasy-like anal leakage.... Get it right! lol
however... i think i'd give it a go. as long as you don't over do the fat grams, the side affects aren't suppose to apply to you
but who knows?
anyone get greasy spots in their undies? gotta tell.... you know you're out there! ;)
I looked into Alli once upon a time. When I read on their official website that they suggest one take a spare pair of pants to work, I knew it wasn't for me. I can limit my fat intake myself, I don't need the threat of public embarrassment.
Actually there would be no embarrassment if you followed the recommended grams of fat per meal, then its a breeze. Its when you miscalculate, not just by 1 or 2 grams, it has to be quite alot that you might want to carry that extra pair of pants. I tell people to start on a Thursday providing that they might have the weekend off. That will give any time for fear and adjustment.
Basically it 'forces' you to eat a low fat diet otherwise you would have to suffer the consequences. (bright orange oily secretions!). If you are going to eat a low fat diet anyway you may well be taking a placebo.
I tried Alli in late 2006/ early 2007. I did lose about 8 pounds in a month, and they do give you a helpline for free advice etc but I thought it was a waste of money, when I would probably lose the same amount of weight without it.
I came off it after a month, and have since lost about 119 pounds without it. I'd say it works as a psychological deterrent to eat fatty foods, but thats all- It is the individuals hard work that loses the weight!
I'm glad it at least works for some people, it didn't work out for me and now I have all these leftover pills that I can't do anything with.
I followed the instructions to a t, but I already have stomach problems and I guess the alli just irritated them cause I was eatting less than 15g of fat a meal and still having problems. Wearing a pad all the time just didn't appeal to me so I quit it.
But congrats to you and I hope it keeps working out!
I guess I don't understand. Why are you taking them? I mean why don't you just watch your calories, exercise and lose the 1-2 pounds a week? Sounds like its a lot more of a "pain in the ass" lol than doing it the old fashion way like everyone else is on here. Why pay so much money when you can do it for free?

ask yourself what's really working for you - the drug or your behaviour. you're losing weight because you're limiting your intake, not because you're taking alli. and now you're promoting the use of a drug that neither you nor anyone else needs.
For the entire first quarter of this year, I ate all fresh fruit and vegetable, oats, honey to sweeten, a few nuts and seeds, tofu, prawans, tuna and I had oily fish once a week and chicken once a week, I cooked only with a small amount of olive oil. I also ate fat free greek yogurt a bit of rice. I cut out all drinks other than 100% pure fruit juice and water (I drank about 8 glasses of water a day). I train in Martial arts twice a week and I have a cross trainer at home which I was using 4 times a week for at least 30 mins at a time. - I did not loose a single pound, not 1! My calorie intake was 1500 (about 700 less than I need per day).
I am now doing exactly the same as above but I have added a little bit of bread, light philadelphia, low fat cooking sauces and white meats etc BUT I am also taking Alli and I have slowly started to loose weight (about 2.5 per week).
I probably eat between 5 and 10 grams of fat per meal and I have never experiences 'treatment effects', people have to realise that we are not all made the same and some of us find it MUCH harder to lose weight (I have PCOS) so we need a little help! If it works for you, great!
I tried Alli when it first came out. I even doubled the dose of Alli and didn't see any results, not even the side effects. It was a complete waste of money. What did help me lose weight was diet and exercise. Even though I have gained it back again.
if you have a problem monitoring your fat intake on your own Alli is helpful because it WILL let you know when you have gone over
