In another thread a couple of months back, people were raving about Almond Breeze as an alternative to cow's milk. I normally drink organic soy or brown rice milk, but I'm always up for trying new things. I finally found it, and bought the unsweetened one to try in some coffee and tea, on top of my oatmeal, etc. I must say it is delicious!! I recently made the switch to percolating my coffee and buying organic and it tastes fantastic already, but with a little almond milk it is a gourmet delight for sure!!! It tastes like one of those fancy $5 coffee's I'd never pay for in a coffee shop...lol.
A word of caution though. I bought the unsweetened one which contains no added sugar. The others on the shelf, if I read the label correctly, all contained 2/3 or 66% of their calories from added sugars. I would never buy it as any kind of a regular snack with that much sugar and anyone worried about sugar intake should be sure to read the label before buying...
Yeah, they print whether it's "unsweetened" on the front of the carton. The calories are also printed on the front of the carton. 40 calories = unsweetened (Splenda) 60 calories = sweetened.
I buy mine at Rite Aid for $1, but until I suggested it they only offered the plain unsweetened. Now they have Vanilla & Chocolate unsweetned too, & apparently it's worked out for them because they have a high turnover of it (with old stocks of the sweetened version)
Anyway, it's about $3 at my grocery stores. I couldn't justify that budget wise.
I love the unsweetened vanilla! I cook with and make shakes and put it on cereal and everything! Lol!!! I buy it at a local organic shop and it's on sale till the end of the month for $1.75! I just finished a carton this morning I have to go stock up now! :-)
Pi, I ran to my fridge after I read your post wondering if I had missed the little warning at the bottom of the box saying the Almond Breeze contained Artificial Sweetener...lol. I must have the Canadian version, but my unsweetened contains no artificial sweeteners and it's definitely not what I would call sweet. If I could buy this stuff for a buck I'd be a lot happier...lol...
Almond Breeze unsweetened is fabulous. Mix it with a bit of Frangelico's hazelnut liquor and coffee for a really nice beverage.
$1 at Rite Aid? I pay $2+ for 32oz. at Trader Joe's, what size is it at Rite Aid?
Whoa! That's crazy they don't put Splenda in Canadian Almond Breeze! You darn Canadians!
Yes, $1 at Rite Aid. It's "on sale" right now at my "regular" grocery store for $2.49. I'll spend $1 on it!
Welcome to the Almond Breeze club!
there is no splenda in American unsweetened almond breeze either. which is why it is so... not... sweet... :)
Considering even the sweetened versions are lower cal than real milk, i don't have a problem with using them if I want to just drink it straight. I use unsweetened in cereal, coffee, or for cooking.
I'm going to go to Rite Aid tonight...I want Almond Breeze for $1!
