Almond Breeze Unsweetened

Quote  |  Reply
It does sound amazing for only 40 cals a cup....

However, I hate it. I've had the sweetened vanilla before in the past and loved it, but not this unsweetened original one! Definitely dissapointing for me :(

Any ideas for what I should do w/ my unsweetened almond breeze?

I'd use it in my sugary cereals... but I usually like to get some protein in my breakfast (milk) and Almond Breeze is kinda lacking in protein.

The unsweetened original flavor makes a pretty good base for creamy soups.  You can freeze it if you won't be making any soup in the next few weeks.
I always add a packet of sweetener to my unsweetened vanilla almond breeze. Add it to the chocolate one and it is divine...a whole cup of chocolate milk for 45 cals!

It tastes bad on its own, but if you put it in your oatmeal, cereal or mix it with hot chocolate mix it's fine

The regular kind is only 60 cals so its sweetened but probably tastes better

I agree it sucks straight - but I use it in my Kashi hot cereal, and it makes it wonderfully creamy.  It would probably work in plain oatmeal as well (I suggesting mixing in a packet of sweetener, cinnamon & nutmeg, and a couple of spoonfuls of canned pumpkin as well....mmmmm)  Smile

As for protein - you could always add a spoonful of whey protein to your cereal (easy to get at a health store or Trader Joes').

OK, I have to ask.....

what is Almond Breeze?

It is a milk substitute.  Hungrygirl is wild about it.  I have recently purchased some myself to add to my morning coffee and to have on cereal.  I got the unsweetened vanilla.  It tastes good to me.
It's great to use where you'd normally use milk but not really care about the flavor of milk--soups, smoothies, sauces, oatmeal, strongly flavored cereal (I've used it with bland cereal and it just tastes gross, but if your cereal is sugary by itself it's bearable), coffee, tea.  Basically anything where you need it for texture and body and not taste.
I adore Almond Breeze in all its nutty glory.  I used to put a ton of Splenda in it, but I'm slowly starting to appreciate it straight up.  I usually use it in my cereal (with Splenda) and as a creamer for my coffee.  It's fabulous.
i LOVE Almond Breeze!!!!

although, if you're having the regular vanilla, i'd consider switching to So Nice Soymilk, as it has MUCH more of your reccomended daily intake of vitamins and minerals for the same amount of cals.
i first heard about it about six months ago and gave up on trying to find it. but you've sparked my interest again.

so where the heck can i find this stuff?!

Thanks for your replies!

picklepug31 - have you looked for it in the health food section (NOT refrigerated.... its just sitting there on the shelves w/ other soy or rice milks) of your local grocery store?

mmm, just want to say I used it to make my oatmeal this morning.... SO good and creamy!!! Delicious!!!

(had to add some sweetener to it though!)
how does it taste in coffee?  I can only drink my coffee with 1/2 and 1/2 and that adds so many calories.  In fact when I drink coffee it is more like creamer with a splash of coffee added to it!

I love it in coffee-- but it's definately not nearly as creamy as, well, cream.  I put about 1/4 cup in for a big cup of coffee, but that's just me.

I loooove almond breeze.  I don't know WHAT all you guys are talking about.  ;)

ooo thanks c_jamie. unfortunately i already went to the store today, and didnt have a chance to get back home in time to see your post, but i will look next time. they may be by the rest of the soy milk, which seems logical. i just never really thought of it before. im usually braindead when i go to the store because its always right after school :)

picklepug - haha yeah i used to look for it in the refridgerated section with the rest of the soy milks (ie. So Good, Silk, etc)... but they are NOT there!!

its in the health food section on the shelves.... no fridge!!

i sufer with migraines and my doctor suggestion was more protein and shakes made from almond milk it so hard to find that i was surfing the net to buy a case when i came across you comment. so take a cup of frozen fruit, half a scoop of whey protrin powder, I/4 cup of cocnut mil and 2 cups of the milk and blend so yummy i even add flax seed to get more benfits

I had some and used it to make dairy-free lattes and as a base for protein drinks.

I don't drink cows milk anymore. I will only drink Almond Breeze original. I have tried many soy milk products and by far this drink is my favorite.
