Almond Butter or Cashew Butter
I'm wondering if almond butter and/or cashew butter taste like peanut butter? I have a tendency to buy a jar of peanut butter and down it in like 2 days, so I was wondering if there was a similar alternative that I might be less likely to binge on.
No, neither taste like peanut butter. They taste like the nut each was made from. Why don't you try making your own nut butter when you need it? I would assume that you will be less inclined to binge on it if you have to make it from scratch..
How do you make it? Just blend nuts together? I don't think I have anything that powerful. That's a good idea though. I'd love a recipe if you have one.
Not a recipe exactly, since the only ingredients in PB like Smucker's Natural are peanuts and salt -- healthwise, the less salt the better, but for those of us with a savory-tooth, adding to "taste" is not that hard. There are machines out there that will make nut butter, but none as efficiently as the mfg. machines will -- EXCEPT, if you've got a Whole Foods or comparable market in your area, they generally have machines onsite and make it by the 5-gal tub -- then you use their containers and buy only the amount you really want. Theoretically, you could buy 2-3oz only, and save yourself the binge that way.
Also, there are a couple of mfgs that make little single-serving packs for lunch boxes. I don't know who or where etc, but I know they're out there.
