How old are you, and how much do you burn in a day? Besides your exercise, are you usually sedentary? How much do you usually burn during a workout?

How much estimating are you doing when counting your calories?
For example;
-are you eating out a lot and then just guessing at portion sizes and picking say..."lasagna" out of the list CC gives you?
Basically, how are you making sure that you are eating exactly 1600?

I am 25 years old and i exercise for about an hour 5 days a week , i try not to eat out and i try to eat lots of fruits and vegetables and drink lots of water i usually do taebo for about 46 to 56 minutes.I guess i burn about 400 to 500 calories per session.I really need advice. I just quit my job so i dont get out much maybe 2 times a week and i usually sleep between 8 to 10 hours is this why i haven't lost weight, and i exercise during the day should i be exercising in the morning, should i be more active during the day.

I am perplexed as to why you haven't lost any weight at all. Are you maintaining a deficit every day according to your eat meter and burn meter? Do you measure your calorie content & portion size accurately so you are not over or underestimating?? How many calories do the tools here tell you to eat for success? What type of exercises are you doing for that hour?

Without knowing much about you it's tough to say what is going on, but I suggest you try to reduce your average calorie intake to 1450 and see what happens. I am also 5'1" and lost weight on 1450 calories (though I would suspect you should still lose on 1700??)

If that doesn't work I would try zigzagging. Do 1200 calories 3 days a week and 1800 calories the other three days a week. Maybe even one 2000 calorie day on a weekend too. Alternate and see if it gives your metabolism a bit of a boost?

The other possiblity is that you are not eating enough, that your body actually has adapted to needing precisely the 1600 to function properly and you aren't burning more on top of that. It is possible you actually need to INCREASE your calories.

You could experiment over the next few weeks with the three different approaches I have given you above and see what works for you.  Give it some time though, like do each method for 3+ weeks before making a conclusion whether it works or not.

The usual reason for not losing weight is eating too much.  Are you weighing and measuring your food accurately?   Are you relying on a lot of processed foods and meals out or do you cook most of your meals?

If you've been on 1600 cals for 3 months your body may also have got used to operating on less food.  A good tactic is to have one day where you eat a lot more than normal... 2200 cals for example... and then the next day go back to your weight-loss amount.  I'd start back at 1500 and see how you go.

Best of luck.
When I don't lose it's usually because I'm not drinking enough water and am consuming too much salt!  This makes the body retain more water.

I would up your water intake, and maybe try to lower your sodium (use spices instead of salt - eat lots of whole foods).  Also, try different types of exercise.  Your body may have gotten used to the same routine.

I hope this helps.  Good luck!

Are you reaching your target heart rate when you are exercising? I have exercised consistently for years, and was always frustrated that I wasn't losing weight, even when I watch my calories. I started monitoring my heart rate, and I was surprised at how much harder I had to work to reach my target heart rate. But, the weight has been coming off, sometimes slowly, but consistently.

Also, I'm 5'5" and I seem to only lose weight when I'm at or below 1500 per day. You can't accept these calculators as accurate. If I ate what it told me to eat according to my activity level I would be a cow.

I ran into a similar problem a few months back... that is until I bought a food scale.  It's amazing what I thought was a portion compared to reality.  Might be worth looking into if you don't currently have one.

Just a thought.  Smile

I am 178 lbs since january, and after 2 years of lots of excercise too.....I had only lost 6 pounds...I just started working out with a personal trainer and combined it with a nutritionist..... found out I had been working out way too hard for at least a year....

now I am picking up speed by doing an hour of excercise a day...at a very low heart rate...yes it totally makes a difference... and I'm seeing the fat starting to melt off of me.... wo knew that working too hard in cardio would make my body want to retain fat? and also I do weight training 3 days a week... but I also eat 1700 and I am not hungry!!!! yeah!! Maybe this will help you? good luck with it....Lina

i agree. many people say they "eat so little" and then when they try to actually count every calorie (ie that dressing on a tossed salad that is actually 2 times more calories than the salad itself. that small piece of cheese. etc), they see the numbers are different.

Are you sure that you have not lost fat and gained muscle.  I think it is also important to have your body fat tested.   If you are a member of a  HMO they may do this for free or a minimal charge.  I also agree with the weighing everything post and the water post and the zig zag calorie post.  If I do not weigh  and log everything I end up eating alot more calories than I think.... but ultimately eating better and exercizing will improve your health no matter what you weigh and that helps me keep going even when I am not losing.... Go have your body fat tested... that way in 3  or 4 months you can check your real progress.

Everybody's body is different.  It took me a year and a half to figure out what worked the best for me.  My metabolism was very low because i have a thyroid disease and drank too much coke.  What works for me is I eat protein in the morning, usually oatmeal, to get me going.  I also drink a lot of water.  When you start drinking a lot of water, you start to lose water gain which maybe one of your problems.  I, too went on a diet and at first i was not loosing any weight but i started to gain.

My advice is to drink water, don't skip meals unless it is the last meal of the day and remember pay attention to the inches you may or may not be loosing because muscle weighs more than fat.  Also, pay attention to how you look in the mirror and fit in your clothes and only weigh once a week, females tend to roller coaster along the scale.

excuse me - wh do you think oatmeal is protein? it is made mostly of carbs (even the unenriched has a lot which is logical since it is grain)

I found that I was unable to lose weight when I was on Yaz birth control pills.

You might be eating too little. If you are eating 1600 calories a day but burning 400-500, that puts you just about the minimum number of calories. Try upping to 1800 and see what happens. :)

You may need to keep track of the fat calories as well as the calories. You cannot eat cake cookies and chocolate bars and count those into your 1600 calories because that makes your fat intake way too high. Fat should only account for 30 percent or less of your calories.  If you know the calories and you know the fat grams, multiply the fat grams by 9 and divide by your total calories. That will give you the percentage of fat you are eating. (You multiply by nine because each gram of fat has nine fat calories). For example... Total of fat grams is say...50 and you're eating 1600 calories, take 50 X 9 = 450. Divide this number by 1600 and that equals 28% of your calories are fat calories. That is within the acceptable limits. Keep your total fat grams for the day at 50 grams or less and you may start to lose weight.  I hope this helps. Keep us posted on your progress and don't give up.  It took 3 weeks for me to lose a pound and now after 5 weeks, fattening foods have lost their appeal.  GOod LuCk!
