I would like to start a motivation group for those that already fall within a healthy BMI but looking to lose those last few pounds and/or get in shape.

wrm2105, have you had your BMI or body fat actually measured? I've no doubt that you'll be perfectly healthy at your 160-163 goal, but I wouldn't be too worried about the BMI calculations. You probably know this already, but for someone with a lot of muscle, that quicky calculation just isn't worth much. My 17 yr old body builder son has very little fat on him but using the BMI tool, he's classified as severely overweight.  I think you about have to have one of those water displacement tests to get a real number.

Oh, and I welcome a little testosterone into the group!

yep testosterone welcome.  I was going to say the same thing as chris, because my BMI is on the high side also, but I'm pretty muscular, so it's not a good way for me to evaluate my state of health.

wrm2105,

you look great now! Very muscular. I wouldn't worry about weight since you're so fit. I would focus more on running those distances than your weight.

I really wish I could run like that, but alas, I have a bad knee :(

Hi everyone,

Yes, chris1208 and jillmenow--I was kind of expecting this. I would like to have a water displacement test at some point to determine my bodyfat percentage. My Taylor BF scale has me anywhere between 12 and 14%, and the handheld device at my gym measured me at 10.1% back in November. The online calculators (where you enter weight and measurements) have me somewhere around 10%. I guess that the "extra weight" that I'm carrying comes from years of weightlifting.

For my BMI to drop to 21.7 (the midpoint of the healthy range), my weight would have to drop to 149 lbs, which is almost impossible without losing muscle mass. Therefore, I don't pay too much attention to BMI, although I'm very happy to be in the "healthy range."

Sorry to hear about your bad knee, josielynn. I noticed that you work out of the elliptical, which is great. Might swimming work as an option for a good cardio workout?

Edit: To add comments to josielynn.
I tried the "happy weight" calculator, just for giggles. The weight it came up with, 134, was just a couple of pounds less than I am now (and a little more than I was before the holidays.) I sure hope that it's not a constant battle to stay under 130. I know I'll always have to be conscious of what I eat and make efforts to get exercise. I just hate the thought of fighting my body for the rest of my life. Hmmm, that really didn't make me giggle much so I think I'll try and forget it.
That calculator put me at 132!  I went that low before and looked like I was dying...
Oh well.  Guess the happy weight calculator doesn't work so well for everyone.  I found it helpful because it put me at 111.9 and my own personal goal was 110.  So this confirmed that this will be a good weight range for me to maintain.  I'm currently about 113-115, wanting to be at 110-113.

It's just that I see so many people on CC who are much taller wanting to weigh less than my GW, it sometimes makes me question if I should go lower.  But I've decided not to even though I could still be healthy because I don't want to spend every moment of my life trying to maintain at 100 pounds.  I'll just  keep working on my BF%.

There are a couple problems with swimming for me...it's never one of those skills i learned well as a kid :(  bike riding is another one.  The last couple times i got on a bike that's not stationary, I almost killed myself falling into traffic/trees/etc.  Swimming seems to be similar in that the only thing I can do and still stay afloat is the doggy paddle.  I never learned either of those till I was older than most kids, but I don't mind the elliptical too much and I LOVE weight lifting for some strange reason.  I think it's because I can track my progress, which works out well for an anal retentive person like me

HI!! I'm 25 yrs old, 5'6". I started out weighing 161 lbs. CW is 135 and my goal is 130. I have been stuch at 135 more months!!!!!! I am more concerned about toning up, though.

I am 18 years old, 6ft and i weigh around 148lbs. I have lost 6 pounds so far since September last year and 8 more lbs is my goal by May this year. I am trying to get there by doing weights and tonnes of cardio! the only place on my body that really has fat left is my hips and waist... the middle section basically! Hopefully that will come off with hard work by MAY!!!!!!!

ha my happy weight is 115.4 which was my original goal, 115, and about 4 pounds away...but i have been thinking about going down to 110- or 105 ah well I guess we'll just see how i feel and not the actual weight...if I got tighten my muscled I wouldn't mind staying at 120 or even 130 ha
Down below 150 as of this morning!! Go Me!!!

I am 30 years old, 5'3 and my BMI is 24. For my height the healthy BMI range is 18-25.

I currently weigh 137 and would really love to lose 13 pounds. According to an article I read about my "happy weight" I should weigh somewhere between 118 and 123, but I just can't imagine weighing that.......I'd love to but I'm not sure I could maintain it.

I have stopped drinking diet soda (which I used to drink 4+ a day). I now drink only water. I have been exercising 5-6 days a week for the last month. I eat between 1300-1500 calories a day.

Yet, I have maybe (maybe) lost 1 pound in the last 7 weeks! I am frustrated. I weighed 124 two summers ago and I would love to get back to that weight.

I used to weigh about 200.

I joined Jenny Craig and successfully lost 65 pounds. I stopped Jenny Craig in 2003 and have been able to maintain a weight in the 130's, but like I mentioned earlier, I have been in the low 120's and would love to get there again.

I don't know what I should be doing differently, but I really want to lose.

Monica

Down to 146!  Getting there!

Hey everybody I'm totally with you here... I'm trying to tone up for summer.  I am 5'6, and 134 - 135.  I look and feel best at 130.  I was steady at 130 for a while but have been slacking and eating whatever.

Anyway you know how frustrating it can be to try to shed those last few.  So Somebody please add me as their friend.

I'd like to find somebody who wants to weigh in every morning.  That is one of the best ways to keep myself accountable.

Its hard during the winter... it has been raining here like every day and I am sick of going to the gym.  I love the summer, when I do yard work, ride my horse, and go running/swimming/biking... so much easier!  Now I am just pigging out!

I'll check back in!

HI Dalzar, Go careful, I weigh in every day, as a result of many years of having an eating disorder and it can make you obsessive. Also, your weight changes all the time, I can have a real good day, weigh in the next day and find I'm a lb heavier.

I also get stressed if I'm away from home and can't do a daily check.

Far better to weigh once a week. That's not so long that if you've had any minor slip ups you can't sort them out.

I am seriously tempted to get to goal and throw the damn scales away!!!!!!!!! After all, we all know when we have gained, by the fit of our clothes and how we look, all the scales do is confirm it. xx

Good job, happyteacher and josielynn! I hope to have some good news in a day or so. I don't have a scale at the moment but my clothes are feeling better than they did after my horrific performance over the holidays.

Monica, hang in there. If you've been counting your calories so that your sure of your intake plus getting that much exercise, the scale is bound to move soon. Depending on how much your burning with exercise I suppose you may be under eating a bit. Make sure that you don't have more than a 1000 calorie difference between what you take in and what you burn. I've read a lot of posts from people who stalled from doing that.

I have kinda mixed feelings on the weighing in thing myself. (When I have a scale) I think it works best for me to weigh twice a week. I do get a lot of water weight fluctuation that makes daily weighing very frustrating. The trouble with weighing only once a week is that the weigh in could fall on one of those water retaining days and then I'm kinda bummed for a whole week. For an emotional eater, that's dangerous. The real answer, of course, would be to see the fluctuations in terms of what I know I've done diet/exercise wise and not let it get to me. Yeah...not there yet. Frown

I'm really happy to see that nearly every one has very reasonable goals for their weights and for the most part, we're more interested in being healthy and toned rather than being fixated on some number. Yay, group!

oh wow, my happy weight is 118! i'd practically have to starve myself to get down that low :-/
Dalzar......... we are just alike. I'm 5'6", 134-135, wanting to be at 130.  I too weigh in everyday. Those 4-5 pounds just don't seem to want to come off!!!!!!!!
