Alternative to sandwich cheese

Quote  |  Reply
Does anyone know an alternative to sandwich cheese? 30g is 120 cal which means that I'm eating 60 cal a sandwich. The problem is that I need the cheese for texture, it's just not the same, it's not even eatable without it. Any ideas please?

have you tried either the 2% cheese slices or the fat free cheese slices?  i don't like the fat free (texture of rubber) but i LOVE the 2% ones.. beyond that maybe mix it up and have one with cheese one day and one without cheese the next day until you get used to the no cheese.. i used to think i couldn't have a sandwich without cheese and i do it quite often now. :)
I use reduced fat shredded cheese.  You can use less and just spread it around on your sandwich.

Also, ask at your deli counter if they have low fat cheese and have it sliced very thin, so instead of 1 ounce you are having only 1/2 ounce.  Deli cheese tastes better too because it's fresher.
I use Low fat mozerella slices.. I buy it at Walmart... I think its thier store brand and its 50 calories for 1 slice.
sharp cheddar has more flavor than regular, so you need less of it.
I just buy regular white american cheese but have them slice it thin. It is usually somewhere around 30 calories per slice. I just weigh it and figure the calories per gram.  Also, Fat Free Kraft shredded cheddar cheese has great texture melted on sandwiches & is good in salads. I am not crazy about the smell but it is low in calories and not bad in taste.
Have you tried Veggie Slices? I know Publix carries them in their refrigerated organic and vegetarian foods in the produce section and they taste just like regular cheese and they even melt ok. Plus, only 40 calories a slice!
I use Laughing Cow Light creamy swiss, It comes in a round wheel with wedges.  Each Wedge is only 35 calories and you can spread it on your bread...its delicious.  And if you don;t like the light, go for the original...only 50 calories per Wedge!!!
Thanks for all the suggestions, they are a big help. Gotta get off that No-Name orange cheese which shouldn't be too hard, it's not like it isn't only marginally edible anyways I guess.

Thanks again!
