Why are you always eating?

Quote  |  Reply

I was having an orange today at my desk and one of my Co-worker came and asked why are you always eating? I replied "I'm trying to be healthy by eating frequently" He replied " That shows in your weight" and went away.

Yes I'm overweight . I'm trying to eat healthy and working out regularly. I''m snacking on fruits and i bring fruits to office everyday. These days lot of people are asking this question to me. How to deal with this? Any ideas?

Wow! what a cheeky sod! I have never been asked but I would just either not reply but smile at them or say something like....

why do you ask?

why?...... is it a problem for you?

awe did you forget your snacks? then offer them a bit.

I'm trying to maintain............

the list could go on!

You don't owe them any explanation as to your eating habits and congrats to you for eating so healthy keep it up :)

Maybe try to fit in a little more detail? "I'm trying to eat more frequently to boost my metabolism" or even just leave it at "I just feel like having some refreshing fruit for a snack" - I don't really know why anyone would comment on someone eating lots of fruits, it's not like you keep snacking on pizza pops.

UGH!  People are so uninformed and can be such pigs!  This happened to me too...http://caloriecount.about.com/stop-eating-ft1 26720

I don't know how to do the cute click here thingy.  Laughing

I can't beleive someone would be so rude. I would have been rude right back with him and probably moreso, I'll work on that.

I have to agree with Andie-Joe, but I wouldn't have said it as nicely.

Yes we are overweight, but we are trying to change that situation.  This persons sounds like a jerk and that they will always be a jerk.

Maybe you could offer them some sensitivity training in food issues.

I am lucky to have very suppportive co-workers who have been known to take my bad food away from me.  Like my 3 musketeers bar when it is TTOM

How about in the future, just look at them and say "Because I'm hungry, I'm doing the 5-6 small meals a day thing and quite frankly if I may add, it's none of your damn business."

That guy sounds like a d**khead.Tongue out

That sucks, what a jerk!  :(

I hate it how people feel the need to comment on other people's eating habits.  People are very rude.  I NEVER say anything to anyone else abut what they eat.  However it's inevitable that at least twice a day someone will say something to me about what I'm eating.

It honestly makes me hesitant to get things from the fridge, or eat things that have to be microwaved just because I don't want the constant scrutiny.  I haven't made popcorn in a week because of a snarky comment about me "Gawd, you're ALWAYS eating popcorn, if you run out, I have extra from the boyscout sale you can have".  Mind you, I bought a 6 pack of mini bags 2 weeks ago, and I've had TWO from the pack?!

eta:  As for ideas to combat this, I would just ignore him, and try not to dwell on it.  Making a big deal about it will just make you focus on it more, and he won't change his behavior (and it makes YOU look like the bad guy if you're snarky back).

You know what's really awesome about that remark? He will soon eat his words when you lose that weight and become fit and sexy. ;)

Envy seems to come in more colors than green these days. More variety I guess. ;)

kick him in the nuts...

A chuckle - a shake of the head then "Just like your rudeness shows when you speak?" and then another grin. :D

Seriously though, a friendly smile and a patient explanation that it's part of meal planning system usually shuts them up. :)

Regardless don't let people get to you - especially the ones whose opinions matter not one whit.

LMAO-- I presented this topic to my 21-year-old son and he suggested this reply: "Because looking at you makes me so depressed, I feel like eating." Some people are just turds, and try as you might you can't make a silk purse out of a turd (or something like that). I kinda feel sorry for him. Tomorrow, you will be even healthier. He will still be an a**hole! Ya' just can't fix that. Wink

I know what you mean, the receptionist always has to make a comment when I have tuna. I still eat the tuna because its really good and easy to make for lunch. so in her jolly green giant face. (i have a grudge against her for other reasons, and no offense to tall women.)

That's how you know they're a) not smart ...and b) not decent.

People with other's feelings on their minds don't speak like that.

m0lissa - that reply is perfect!

I dont get any comments where I work, but if I did that is the line I will remember!

thought i'm the only one getting comments like this. But reading the replies it looks like many are facing the problem.

I like all the responses especially molissa.

jessicabc- How do you expect someone who comments on food habits of other be Smart and decent.

I probably would have punched him (I'm not suited to the workplace...or the civilized world :D) Whether you're eating an orange or a chocolate Taj Mahal, it isn't anyone's business.

um...i dont.  thats the whole point of what i was saying.  i cant imagine a smart or decent person saying those things.  hence, he is not smart or decent.   how did my comment get so misunderstood.

oh sorry jessicabc- I just read your post again. As usual i was reading between lines Smile
