Always hungry?

Quote  |  Reply

Im 5'10" and weigh 132-138 pounds depending on what i eat during that day. Im literally always hungry during the day :/ In school i usually forget about it but when im home i cant help but eat all the time :( Even though i eat well above  2000 calories a day i don't gain the weight :/ I vary between 132 and 138 from morning to night but when i wake up the extra pounds aren't there :0

I know everyone says that always being hungry and gaining weight is normal for teenagers but its hard to accept that especially when its an adult telling me that.

Does anyone else have this problem? :/

Rather than an adult telling you anything, try putting your stats into the link above and reading off the 'Daily Energy Requirement' number that most closely matches your activity level.  NB... 'activity' not only means 'working out' or 'exercise' but also 'moving around'... walking between classes and so forth.

You'll find that you're quite a low weight for your height... .so you'd expect to gain a little in the natural course of events as your body develops from 'girl' to 'woman'.   And you'll probably find that you need 2600-3200 to maintain your weight..... which explains why you don't gain.

Before I developed anorexia I was exactly the same as you. No amount of food could really satisfy me, I was always hungry.

I thought this was because there was something 'wrong' with me and it led to me restricitng my food intake but you need to remember - this is completely normal for a teenager!  You have to gain weight as your organs develope, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

However, it could also be boredom eating if you don't get hungry when distracted. Try asking yourself, am I actually hungry right now? Or is it emotional eating. Wait another ten minutes and if you're still hungry then eat.

I don't really understand your concern. You're at a healthy weight, even on the thinner side, you're young, and you're growing.

If you're hungry then eat, your body isn't out to get you. I don't see it as problematic at all. if you're active its even more likely that you're going to feel hungry but teenagers have rampant appetites and food shouldn't be withheld if there have yet to be adverse consequences to your eating behaviors, such as enormous weight gain or feelings of guilt. Just eat when you're hungry and stop when you are full.
