ALWAYS hungry, what do I do?
My main problem is that even if I've eaten enough calories, I always seem to be hungry. The food I'm eating has protein/is filling/is nutritious, but I can never seem to fill up on 1500 calories. Today I had kashi golean with skim milk, a tuna on wheat toast sandwich, strawberries, a heaping helping of raw vegetables with 2 tbsp hummus, 2 tbsp peanut butter with a banana, a light and fit yogurt, and I treated myself to 2 oreos. It adds up to about 1300 calories and in about an hour I'm planning on eating a boca burger and that will be it. I don't know if I can hold out til then, I'm SO hungry and I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.
i had kashi golean crunch for breakfast this morning, too. and i was super hungry afterwards. i was able to keep my mind off it by doing some homework until lunch, but really, by then i was STARVING!
i feel your pain, sister!
im the same way
always hungry
I would try adding some filler that has more bang for the buck. Between the hummus and the peanut butter you're looking at like 250 calories. For that, you can eat a TON of stuff.
For me it seems like filling my belly with volume, and eating low GI foods helps the most.
Also, how much water do you drink?
Probably not enough. I drink only water and skim milk but I only had a 12 oz bottle of water and about a cup and a half of skim milk and it's already almost 5. That's a good idea! I should definitely try drinking some more water. What's an example of a low GI food?
keep a water bottle next to u. it will help u feel fuller without adding any calories. in the trunk of my car i keep a whole pack of water bottles, and in room i stash 8-10. and in the kitchen, well that's where all of it is lol.
but it really helps a lot if one is very critical about their calorie intake. im like that too, i get hungry all through out the day and would just snack on and on and on...well used to. after a while i got used to the whole water thing. i drink a glass of full of water 1/2 hr before i eat, so i dont over eat, u know. hehe. well, that's all from me.
have a good day
Your breakfast is lacking a big protein bang. Might want to add an egg in there or some lowfat cottage cheese (14 grams of protein in 1/2 cup!) Instead of your light and fit yogurt (not filling at all for me!) maybe snack on turkey meat or a mozzarella string cheese stick. Kashi is decent but it has the same amount of protein and fiber as shredded wheat. And about the same amount of sugar too.
I can sympathize with you. I face this same problem too. I find if I eat a big fiber breakfast with protein I'm really good to go.
I think overall you are eating well. I'm not sure what your calorie goal is for the day. Good luck.
i have the same problem and these are the things that help me. i once lost forty pounds simply by eliminating sugar and caffeine from my diet. caffeine, sugar and salt are huge appetite stimulants..there are new studies showing this. some good info is found at www.teecino.com. are you walking or working out? this also helps. are you on any medications? some of them will increase the appetite as well as large doses of vitamin B. a couple of suppliments that i have found helpful for blood sugar and therefore my appetite are l-glutamine and chromium picolinate as well as spirilina capsules. do some research and visit your local helath food store. increasing fiber helps too....if i am starving and want a treat i have fiber one cereal with honey clusters. it contains sugar so i consider it a treat but, it has 13 grams of fiber! the fiber one with honey clusters is the only fiber one cereal that tastes good so watch which one you buy....i have been at this a long time so if i had to give my bottom line i would say try eliminating sugar and caffeine for a week or just cutting it in half....see what happens!
I posted this very same thing a few weeks ago. This is some of the wonderful advice I got that has worked for me. 1) I switched to oatemal in the morning. Quacker makes a new one called weight control. It has 160 cals but alot more protein and fiber so it keeps you full longer. Cereal just doesn't keep me full long enough. In fact I now use the Kashi go lean in my yogurt, (a tablespoon.) 2nd) eat more calorie dense foods with fiber so that they stay with you longer. I'd skip the oreos, peanut butter & even nuts just for now, (racks up too many cals too fast.) You can add them back later once you get your hunger under control. I've also learned that it does get better over time. Bedtime seems to be when I'm hungriest so I save a few cals for a bowl of cereal, 94% ff popcorn, or SF pudding.
Also the less sugar you eat the less you crave.
Personally when i have cravings i find a tablespoon of apple cider vinagre takes care of hunger pangs. as you dont mind the taste i find it helps! :)

Hi,
Aside from the very good advice about changing up the food you eat - it also helps to eat more, smaller meals throughout the day. We eat breakfast a snack mid morning, lunch, a snack mid-day and then dinner. The goal being to never be too hungry. In the morning, we tend to eat yogurt mixed with breakfast cereals (filling) lunch a tuna sandwich and with dinner we have lots vegetables (brocoli, cauliflower, zuchini etc.), some rice and some meat.
A friend who lost a ton of weight advised me to try Amy's Vegetable Barley soup (you get extra liquid into your system and the barley staves off hunger). It's about 140 calories per can and it seems to fill me up in between meals. I currently have a 2 can a day habit but 4 servings is about the same number of calories as a candy bar.
