always hungry! help
god i need help...im always hungry but my stomachs so full! Iv been in recovery from anorexia fo 6 weeks now but i have no problem in wanting to get better (although still scared slightly) and am only 6 stone bmi 14 and taking in as of today about 1800 cals from about 1000 a couple of days ago.
Is this hunger normal so early?? if so when does it normalise again?? my brain just will not register that my stomach is full.
Iv been told yesterday to increase to 1600 lol but i feel i could so eat more than that, is it advisable at such a low weight?? I just want to make sure im doing this right.
PLEAsE HELP!!
Yes, the hunger is normal. Your body is recognizing now that it is being fed, and it wants to make sure you keep on feeding it. Its okay to eat if you feel hungry. You need a lot more than 1600 or 1800 calories a day to gain when recovering if you want to rebuild your body and restore all of its natural functions. Do take your increases at a reasonable rate though. I increased by 200 every week/other week initially (my BMI was approximately 11. I was dying this time last year) But once I reached a BMI of 14 or so, I starting doing my increases in greater jumps pending my weight gain (anywhere from 300-500) each week and have had no ill affects.
That being said, if you feel you can eat more, steadily increase your calories, maybe a 100-200 a day or every other day until you reach 2500 minimum.
You are malnurished and need a lot more fuel then you are getting. I am confused if you are eating 1800 a day why you were suggested to eat less at 1600. The goal needs to be going up and like many here you are going to need a lot of calories for weight gain and repair. With my nutritionist we have been doing 200 increases every 2 days but now I am doing it in bigger increases and more like 2 or 3 times weekly so I can adjust and not keep changing the plan. My body often sends mixed feelings but I know from the past it is part of recovery and I have to feel uncomfortable both mental and physical to get well. You can do this

well apparently i was on about 1300 2 days ago but iv just eaten more today and upped my cal and food intake (with much struggle and fullness) so she said i needed to go up another 300. Yea its the whole thing of your brain not registering with ur body properly thats getting me.
some people are saying that iyou need at least 2000 for repair and gain and others are saying that they are gaining n lke 1500 so i getting really confused. see i had a naturally fast metabolism before this so did anybody find that this was a factor for them needing to eat more to gain weight?
I will pull through and im trying to stay sane for the sake of my health :D
Alright, here's the deal. It is possible to gain on 1500, but it is not a restorative and repairing gain. What happens is that your body goes into starvation mode and tries to hold onto everything you eat, but it does not being to rebuild and repair all the damage that has been done by anorexia. In order to snap your body out of this starvation mode, you need to eat more. People who gain on 1500 may think they are recovered, but they aren't. Their bodies are not the same and they have not rebuilt any of their organ tissues or restored their brain mass. They have simply put on a few pounds by letting their body go in starvation mode. Also, this gaining does not last forever. Initial increases in calories will result in some sort of gain, your body isn't used to food and it gets excited about getting some fuel. But that doesn't mean you should stop there, you should continue increasing to 2500 so your metabolism will normalize and you will eventually be able to eat a normal amount of food and maintain your weight.
I have a naturally fast metabolism as well and need quite a bit to gain weight. In IP, I was up to 4500-5000 a day, to gain barely more than a pound a week. I'm taking things a bit slower now.
