Is there anyone who could explain something to me?

So recently I started going back to the gym after a few months off and since then I have caught every bug / cold there is out there to catch, I just seem to be constantly picking up some kind of illness.

I would understand if I was overdoing it but I'm not I do around 1 hour at the gym Monday - Friday, eat back the calories I have burnt so I'm doing everything I'm supposed to be doing I just don't understand it, am I run down, is it lack of sleep because I'm getting up at 6.00am?

I thought going to the gym would have an opposite effect on me and give me more energy and make me feel better but I'm always tired, I get around 6-7hours of sleep each night.

I had the same thing happen to me this year.   To it just seems that everything going around this year is extra nasty or something.  Keep on working out...it soo good and make sure you are getting to bed at a decent hour.  I get up at 4:15 to do my workout but I am in bed somewhere between 8-9pm.  6am is not really early but its no good if you are going to bed at midnight either.  Try taking a multi-vitamin too.  A lot of times with cal restriction you don't get all the nutrients you need, leading to a weakened immune system.

Thanks for the advise, I went to the doctor this afternoon and he actually advised the same thing, to take multivitamins he said because I don't eat alot of meat that I am lacking some nutrients in my diet.

Multivitamins and Vitiman C especially will help a lot. Also, I recommend cleaning the equipment before you use it.  Our gym has cleaning spray and paper towels all over the place - I started to notice that about 1/2 the people that use the machines never clean them when they are done... and then the next unsuspecting victim jumps on to use it.

I was getting colds a lot over the winter, and as nasty as it sounds, I figured out it was coming from people that were already sick and using the gym equipment, and not cleaning it when they are done.

Just another suggestion. Smile

Is jump roping as good an exercise as running?

In terms of calorie burning, moderate jumping is about equal to running a 10-minute mile, although calorie burning is always a function of time... Read more
