I've been meaning to try kale for ages as I've heard how good it is nutritionally but as I've never had it before I wasn't sure how to cook it, on the back of the bag it told me to put it in a bowl without adding water and microwave it for 4 minutes. I did this, expecting to find a soggy lump like cooked cabbage, instead I found completely dry, yet gorgeously crunchy leaves, reminiscent of the "seaweed" you get in Chinese restaurants (deep fried cabbage). Is this what's actually supposed to happen when you cook kale? I'll definitely be making it again either way, it was delicious! (and only 33 calories per 100g)

mmmm never tried it that way but def will. I always sautee with chicken broth dijon or grainy mustard and onion and thats really good.

Kale is pretty tender so you can microwave, steam, or cook it more in soups etc.  I like to make a vegetarian version of kale & potato soup.  It's so good for you and is usually really cheap too.

I love kale!  Will have to try your cooking technique.  Try blanching it and then sauteeing it in a little vegetable oil with cumin, garlic, and a dash of salt.  So good.

Like clairelaine said, kale is also great in soups.  I really like it in a bean soup like a fagioli or a minestrone.

I have never tried kale before, but had to read this post because of the funny title!!!  Sounds like a newspaper headline!
Anyhow, thanks for the info.  I will have to try it soon.  Do you have to go to a health food store for this?

I've never had kale either but was tempted to try.  I was wondering, is it pretty much like spinach?

I thought it would be, and that's why I didn't buy it cause I already eat plenty of spinach!
