American chinese food question

Quote  |  Reply

I know chinese food is generally bad for you because 90% of it is fried but when my family and I get chinese food we get steamed chicken and brocolli with general tso's sauce on the side. Does anyone have the slightest clue to how many calories a normal serving of steamed chicken and brocolli with general tso sauce sprinkled on top would be? educated guesses are welcomed exact anwsers are amazing.

YOu'd have to guess-timate the amount of chicken and broccolli as well as the amount of sauce.  You can also order it without oil which means that they use liquid, usually broth, instead of oil to do the stir fry.

You might also try ordering something else.

6 oz steamed chicken is about 150 calories, 2 tbsp general tso's sauce is 60 calories, a cup of steamed broccoli is 25-30 calories, so you're looking at about 230 cals for a pretty large portion with 2 tbsp sauce.

hope this helps!!

Only Chinese from take-out places... Not real Chinese food, which is often very healthy and not necessarily fried.

Thanks chrissy. Yes it does help a lot. I did some guestimating for this dish and came out with around 450, I guess I overestimated, A LOT. But to be on the safe side ill tag it as around 300 cals (i get this a lot, that's why i need to tag it)

Thank you again
