Amish Friendship Bread (Serving = 1/12 Loaf) Recipe
Using the Starter from Denise Austin, this recipe ultimately results in 3 batches of starter. Each batch can make 2 loaves of bread or be used to make some more starter over the 10 day process described below. Please note that the recipe below starts with a bag of starter that you received from someone special.
| 5 | cup flour |
| 4 | cup sugar |
| 3 1/2 | cup 1% milk |
| 3 | eggs |
| 1 | cup oil |
| 1 | tsp vanilla |
| 1 1/2 | tsp baking powder |
| 1/2 | tsp baking soda |
| 1/2 | tsp salt |
| 1 | box vanilla pudding |
| 2 | tsp cinnamon |
- Start with the Starter bag. You can use this to bake the
- bread now or use it to make 3 batches in 10 days as
- described below. To make 3 batches:
- Day 1 - 5, mush the bag once each day
- Day 6, add 1 c milk, 1 c sugar and 1 c flour
- Day 7-9, mush the bag once each day
- Day 10, pour the contents into a non-metal bowl and
- again add 1 c milk, 1 c sugar and 1 c flour...divide into 3
- freezer bags...give away 1 or 2 bags. 1 bag is to
- restart starter and the 10 day cycle begins again!
- If you keep an extra bag for baking, preheat oven at
- 325, add contents of 1 bag to the rest of ingredients
- (excl. sugar and cinnamon) and pour into 2 large loaf
- pans that have been greased and floured.
- Mix 1/2 cup of sugar with the cinnamon and swirl it into
- loaves with a toothpick and sprinkle some on top.
- Bake the 2 loaves for an hour and allow to cool for 20
- minutes before taking out of pan. Enjoy!
