I'm trying to figure this out too! I eat really healthy stuff and I think I'm doing really well - lots of veggies and fruit and quite a bit of protein - and then I look at my carb intake at the end of the day and it's over 40% !!! I hear you shoudn't go over 30% of your daily intake..

so I am confused too - how do we calculate all that and keep making good, healthy choices??
Here is an article to check out for info:

Healthy Protein, Carb, and Fat Ranges

This site recommends 10-35% Protein 45-65% Carbs and 20-35% Fat Grams.

  • Protein contains 4 calories per gram
  • Carbohydrates contain 4 calories per gram
  • Fat contains 9 calories per gram
  • Just an example...

    Let's say I consume 1300 calories a day.

    25% Protein- 81g
    50% Carbs- 163g
    30% Fat- 43g
Carbs in fruit are ruining eating healthy?  Isn't think a backwards statement?

There are good and bad carbs.  Carbs in fruit are GOOD carbs - they are naturally occuring sugars.

Why does everyone thing that you cannot and shouldn't eat carbs?  I generally eat about 50% of my calories from carbs each week and do fine.
I agree that Carbs in fruit is GOOD carbs...

To find out more about good carbs, I would check out this site:

    Good Carbs

    Exerpt:

"There is little doubt that the human body uses carbohydrates most efficiently for energy production (as opposed to fats and proteins). So there isn't really any reason to avoid carbs, even if you're trying to lose weight. But there is a BIG difference between the natural, wholesome, 'good' carbs we are designed to eat and the unnatural, highly-processed, 'refined' carbs so many of us consume on a daily basis!"
