i'm really really angry. Today, i was at the supermarket, where they had an area with all sorts of nuts in plastic containers for sale. (some samples available, and if you're interested, you can approach the counter staff to get them to weigh out a pack for you.)

then this guy goes up to one of the containers and takes a handful of nuts. I'm like 'what are you doing?! you're not supposed to take the nuts directly from the container.'

he drops the nuts in his hands, looks at me, sees that i'm just a random passerby, and HE GOES AND STICKS HIS HAND INTO THE NUTS AGAIN TO GRAB ANOTHER HANDFUL, AND STUFFS THEM INTO HIS MOUTH.

there are signs that ask patrons to approach counter staff for assistance. signs on EACH CONTAINER that say 'please do not take nuts from the container.'  i caught him in the act, and told him to stop. and he just looks at me and takes the nuts nonetheless. what's more, i think he was actually with his mum, and his mum didn't stop him.

i'm majorly pissed, not to mention disgusted by the thought of grubby hands reaching into the nuts that i wanted to BUY. *grumbles more*

Sadly, we can't change other people, we can only change ourselves.

That said, the next time you say something like that, I'd just go and get someone who CAN do something about it, like a Clerk or a Manager.

Some people are just idiots.

And this, ladies and gents, is why one should never buy unwrapped bulk food items if one can avoid it.

You saw that one guy do it ... but I would bet that many, many others have done so as well.

Just sayin'.

ewwwwww!!!  That totally grosses me out!

Oh wait ... you're in Singapore, right?

Cane him.  :-)

euww! *note to self - wash ALL unpacked foods...

He is the reason why I don't eat the peanuts or chips at the local bars. After 12 years in the Navy I have learned that not everyone washes their hands. I'm not like Monk, but I have my limits on tolerating other peoples hygiene. Sealed

Thats why I don't buy bulk items like that. People are nasty.

Ewww. I think that just put me off most bulk foods for good. I always worried about people's grubby hands with produce, but in the bulk bins there are usually signs everywhere saying to get a clerk for a sample. That's just gross; who knows where else those hands have been if he had such little regard in that situation. Some people's children...

Think about the things you DON'T see. No thanks, I'd rather pay a little more than get sick. The thought of someone's grubby fingers all up in my nuts (lol)  makes me sick enough.

Apart from being gross, was he not stealing?

OK sorry but it made me laugh............LaughingLaughingLaughing

yes yes I know it's gross, but you've got to give him ten out of ten for attitude heheheheee

Despite being angry rant, it's a funny rant to me too.  You say, "this guy", so I picture an adult man shoving nuts in his mouth.  Then you comment on his "mum", so now I'm picturing a grown man in a suit shopping (and stealing) with his inattentive mother.

Sorry, it's a funny image!  But yeah, the last time I reached for bulk items that were in children's reach, I noticed evidence of child tampering.  Blech.  Frown

Was it a child? I hate it when mom's can not control their kids and if it is a grown guy, he is just another jackass ruining the nuts for everyone else. Know how you feel.

That is soooo nasty.  That's the end of me and bulk foods Yell

I'm willing to bet that his dirty hands aren't the worst thing in those bins; but no worries, that's what our immune system is for.
Wow...how rude! I'm not sure I'm going to be able to think of the bulk bin quite the same again :(

BTW, there are bins that are tamper proof in some stores.  They're the pour kind, where you can't stick your fingers in or put stuff back.  Those barrels that anyone can reach into are just cheap.

thats pretty disgusting. How old was he?

plant a nut tree.

(sometimes you need to plant two because some don't self-polinate)

he was a teenager/young adult... i think around 18~20? and yea, i was pretty peeved cause he was stealing too, whether he saw it that way or not... =_=
