Announcing Calorie Count Mobile

Quote  |  Reply

Imagine you're in a fast food restaurant and are forced into choosing a meal from a menu of terrible choices. Fear not! Just whip out your cell phone, enter ccm.about.com into the mobile browser, and you'll have the entire food database of this site at your fingertips!

This new site is specifically designed to meet the requirements of almost all WAP or web-enabled phones sold in United States. This includes MOTORAZRs, Qs, Blackberries, and hundreds of other handhelds. Regardless of which phone you use, just open its browser and point it to ccm.about.com.

Please share that link with your friends and family. The easiest way is to send them a text message mentioning http://ccm.about.com - when you append "http://", most phones recognize this is a web address and will convert it to a clickable link inside of your text message.

Over the last couple of days I made the experience that this is also a great little tool to "break the ice" in a social gathering - people love to guess, and most of us always get surprised by how many grams of sugar are hiding in our drinks, or how many calories a little appetizer like the French Onion Soup can have... I've already used CC Mobile as a replacement for a board game, and a fellow colleague uses it as a fun way to teach her children the fundamentals of healthy eating.

For more information visit the CC Mobile Overview page, the FAQs, or just simply post your questions in this thread. Enjoy and let us know how you like it!!!

Hmmm my Motorola Q on Verizon's network is bringing up an error:

Alert

The page cannot be found. Check the name and try again.

This  happens for both:

http://ccm.about.com

http://www.ccm.about.com ;

but it works on my computer running XP and Firefox..

Thanks for that - coincidentally, I also use a Q from Verizon and mine is giving me the same error. We are looking into it - it was working fine until now.

An interesting thing just happened. I noticed that my Q not only stopped loading ccm.about.com, but also all other sites as well. So I power-cycled it (turned it off and on), and all of sudden it started working again!  CC Mobile and all other site load fine now. Could you please try the same with your Q?

It's all working now..

I'm not having any more problems it's even pretty fast in it's look up..

This will be fun thanks fro the new tool...

I was thinking along these lines when reading another topic by folks who are not near computers (desktop I presume) most of the time.

Here's a suggestion, when viewing an item on the mobile device, we can click a link to add the item to today's food log. Of course this would require some sort of authentication.

Either a pin number to log in; or saving the mobile number in the profile (which ever is less intrusive and/or feasible).

Great feature though

thanks!!

Can you also add to your food log from CC mobile? Because that would be extremely convenient.
Currently you can't access your account or add foods and similar from CC Mobile. We will monitor the usage of this project, and if we can justify it, we will continue adding features to it.

Thank you thank you!  I've been dying for this feature to be available!

I would use it much more often if I could access my account.

It would be FABULOS if I could add my food log to my Q --

Imagine, being on the road, being busy, and being able to keep up with my intake on my Q :-)

I tried doing it through the browser in the Q to the full website and it jsut didn't work, I cna't really say why, because it seemed as though it should.  But parts of the pages would not download, and then I could not navigate to certain places that I needed to go.

Anyway, it would be GREAT to be able to keep up with my log on the road as mobile as I am !

Thanks for the thoughts-

I tried it for my cell phone and it tells me to enter a cell phone number. I did.  I use Cincinnati Bell
My blackberry pearl says:
HTTP Error 503: Service UnavailableThe server is currently unable to handle your request due to a temporary overloading or maintenance of the server. Please try loading a different page.
- This is after I've cleared everything in the cache & history.
Any advice is warmly welcomed.  I'm really excited about this mobile feature.

Sorry for the difficulties.  We have just tried with a Blackberry Pearl (on T-Mobile) and received the same problem so will start working on this pronto.

Thanks for your patience and understanding.

No worries at all, and thanks for such a fast and great response :)

We really appreciate all the work that everyone there does!

I'm a longtime user of Calorie Count and love it. Thanks for creating this killer mobile interface!

Please add me to the list of folks who would like to be able to add foods to our food logs. That would make this truly one-stop-shopping.  I would just do everything from my T-Mobile Dash.
