Annyone else addicted to cheese?
I think this may be my downfall.. I LOVE cheese. My perfect meal is fresh chunky tomato marinara, Pasta (wheat is fine) and a crap- load of cheddar cheese.
I'm serious its my addiction I have a hard time trying not to eat it. Also, I crave cheese when I'm hungry. So I will just go to the fridge and cut off a hunk and eat it. I have had days where I eat nothing but cheese, cheddar, mozz & jack.
What can I do about this?

"hello, my name is magicbluefairy and i am a cheese addict".
*group says "hello magicbluefairy"*
i love cheese....even 5 yr old sharp cheddar cheese!! i buy black diamond cheese strings (mozzerella) and since they are portion controlled, i don't have to worry about how much cheese i am eating. one cheese string (or string cheese as i have seen here), is only 60 calories.
my weakness though is cottage cheese and that has a ton of sodium in it. i could eat cottage cheese all day, every day!! so yes... i am addicted to cheese (but not blue cheese or roquefort [sp?] or brie. and i don't like swiss either).
cheese is great. yeah cheese!!

My name's Abi and I'm a Cheese-aholic. I love Sundays with the papers and fresh bread, loads of cheddar and a bit of blue. Probably the only thing I eat that's healthy on a sunday is a bit of celery or cucumber to accompany it!
But fear not - there is new research that shows a little dairy can help you loose weight. Check out this research from Danish scientists - http://www.bbc.co.uk/sn/humanbody/truthaboutf ood/slim/calcium.shtml

My name is Emma and I'm a slave to cheese. Left the UK and its abundance of gorgeous, crumbly, delicious Cheddar to find myself in Belgium, next door to the country of yummy, runny, creamy, divine cheese. I should give myself a medal for every day I make it without gorging myself on the stuff.
And - with the exception of some cream cheese - they don't like their low-fat varieties here, if there are any they taste like plastic.

Omg, I LOVE cheese. love love love. gotta love cheese.
I usually like cheese on breads and pastas. Mmm. Mostly on carbohydrates. To come to think about it, I've been eating like an italian person lately! All the carbs, all the pasta. Mama mia. Oh, and I love cheese pizzas. Cheese logs, those breads with cheese in them are really good.
Oh how I love cheese.
dharmabumgirl, you're not alone. trust me, I feel exactly the way you feel and I'm sure most of these people do too.

mmmmm cheeeeeese
I've never met a cheese I didn't like! Hard cheeses, soft cheeses, stinky cheeses, moldy cheese, I love them one and all! A smooth camembert, a tangy sweet parrano, a buttery jarlsberg or a hearty gorgonzola. My god I'd spend 5 hours on the treadmill just to sink my teeth into a chunk of cheese paired with a nice glass of of a Spanish Crianza or a crisp portuguese white.
Being a foodie, it's been very hard for me to reconcile eating "processed cheese food," with my love of real cheese. I've learned to grab a few cubes of the laughing cow light cheese and squish it between whole wheat saltines for a cheese fix. It's not gourmet, but it is better for me. Each cube is only 7 calories...granted it is a small cube, but it curbs my cheese fix!

I, too, am addicted to cheese. Especially plain. mmmmm. I can't afford the good cheese right now, which helps a little. Not much. Hubby and I don't buy huge amounts of cheese anymore, because I'll just live off it for three days. lol
I am also a total cheese addict. I used to be highly addicted to carbs as well. Since changing to a modified "lower" carb diet of my own chosing, I have lost 20# and never had to change my cheese intake. I seldom fry anything. Really big on roast chicken and utilizing my George Foreman grill for chicken and steaks. Lucky for me, I have always loved veggies..........especially green. I am 49 years old with a cholesterol of 160 and HDL cholesterol of 80! I absolutely refuse to give up my cheese or morning coffee:)
you are kidding right? cheddar cheese on pasta? you must be from the midwest. that is a sin.
if you crave it, go for it. your body is trying to tell you something. maybe get off of those types of cheese and try the lower cal, such as fresh mozzarella, feta and goat cheese. they are better for you. i am sure if you look at the ingredients of those cheese, you will find things that have no business being in cheese. cheese that is better for your body should be made of raw milk and nothing else. sometimes salt, honey, pepper etc...but it should be made simple.

I come from a long line of cheese addicts. I have 8 different kinds of cheese in my fridge right now, including a really nice aged cheddar that I have been eating one sliver at a time.
I'll usually make room in my calories for a serving (or two or three) of cheese. I tend to skip it before I go for light cheese, although the Cabot light cheddar is quite good.
I also blend light cottage cheese with light sour cream and seasoning (such as ranch dip mix) for a spread that isn't as fattening as cream cheese based ones

Horseradish cheddar? Oh MY! Oh have you tried spicy buffalo cheddar? Yummm. I love spicy foods too. Which is good cuz spicy foods help higher your motabolism so perhaps I can justify my cravings of buffalo cheddar by saying that..
:)
:)
Actually I'm from San Francisco but transplanted to New York...
I just LOVE the combonation of cheddar and Tomoto on spaghetti. I love all cheeses on spaghetti but thats my favorite.
And all of my friends (even the italians who said I was crazy) all eat my spaghetti the same way.. I'm a trend setter! ;)
I'd say don't knock it till try it but... look where its got me :(

I also love cheese... more than most people.... well... maybe not... but the thing for me is that I like stuff on cheese. I dont like to put cheese on stuff. It's mostly cheddar cheese for me... that seems to be the most common one around here. I like it with hot sauce on it. Or ranch dressing.... or both sometimes. Sometimes with peanut butter.... I guess I know where all my problems come from now! :P
I don't know why, but I've found this thread really interesting. What does everyone mean by 'addicted'? I love cheese, and am a huge cheese snob, but I think it would be unfair to call it an addiction. I was a smoker for years and I just feel uncomfortable drawing a comparison. Does anyone else?
I have not been addicted to anything except coffee and yes cheese. Its clearly an addiction.. I can't stop eating cheese the way some people can't stop eating chocoloate.. I know that chocolate has caffeine and cheese does not but I crave cheese and I can't stop the craving.. nothing else will do..
definition: addiction - the state of being enslaved to a habit or practice or to something that is psychologically or physically habit-forming, as narcotics, to such an extent that its cessation causes severe trauma
I can say with some confidence that food can by psychologically habit-forming. All sorts of foods, not just cheese, but for me its the cheese. And if I don't stop.. I could end up to large to fit out my front door! I would say that could cause severe trauma.

It's stopping that has to cause severe trauma, not continuation. I know cheese cravings aren't pleasant, but severe trauma?
I mean, imagine a scenario where...I don't know, a loved one snaps at you and then apologizes by saying "I'm really sorry, I'm touchy today because I haven't had any cheese." Or is it like drug addiction where food is the larger problem and cheese is just the drug of choice?

I seriously miss my cheese and pasta dishes. I bought this Kraft low-calorie/fat-free version of singles. Tastes horrible. Flimsy; tasteless. Very upsetting.
I made macaroni and cheese on Tuesday. Didn't touch it. Broccoli and cheese Wednesday. Thinking I'm going to die. Make chicken broccoli alfredo from scratch last night. Can't eat a bite of it.
If anyone has any suggestions for low-fat/low-cal mac and cheese or anything in that realm that doesn't taste like dog doo, my ears are open!
And I don't know if any of you enjoy Mexican food, but I'm addicted to Arroz con Pollo, with this really awesome Mexican cheese. With extra cheese. I splurge once a month on this. I really can't live without it.

I , TOO HAVE A HARD TIME STAYING AWAY FROM CHEESE.. I WAS RAISED ON A FARM AND WE HAD IT AS A STAPLE..... I USE IT BUT REALLY SPARINGLY.......WISH I COULD FIND A REALLY GOOD SUBSTITUTE.......
I hope this is not an interventiion for Cheese-lovers ~.^
String cheese, laughing cow cube cheeses are my saving grace. Imagine being able to snack on these golden yumminess without feeling I spoil my calories. All I can say is: ??? cheese!!!
dharmabum - no way! you're from SF? What are you doing in NY, girl?? come back to sunny warmer West Coast! ^_^

I could quit cheese anytime I wanted to. It's not like I can't live without it. I could. I just choose not to. I mean, what's the harm in a little cheese with breakfast - maybe a quick nip of cheddar around 10 AM to ease the pain of my monotonous life...
I wasn't "hiding in the closet with a wedge of brie" - what happened was i was getting brie out to share with everyone and I realized i needed a nice linen napkin to go in the cracker basket and I had the cheese in my hand when I went to the linen closet and I got locked in... It could happen to anyone.

:0) well black_boned_angel.. call it exageration if that makes you feel better... I just know that I have a vice and I cannot get rid of it. Its cheese and its really really really hard.. so thats my story.
Also, the trauma would not come from stopping cheese, but for any food that is bad for you that you can't stop binging on.. it could cause a person to gain weight, perhaps even cause obesity.. oh and the guilt each time they eat that thing that they can't stop eating.. thats what I consider to be the trauma involved with not being able to stop a habitual behaviour..
thats just my two cents.
