Annyone else addicted to cheese?

Quote  |  Reply
I think this may be my downfall.. I LOVE cheese. My perfect meal is fresh chunky tomato marinara, Pasta (wheat is fine) and a crap- load of cheddar cheese.

I'm serious its my addiction I have a hard time trying not to eat it. Also, I crave cheese when I'm hungry. So I will just go to the fridge and cut off a hunk and eat it. I have had days where I eat nothing but cheese, cheddar, mozz & jack.

What can I do about this?

Kellywood23, Your funny.. I suppose its not life threatening, but seriously sometimes I do hide upstairs eating my dinner separate from my family because of the guilt of how much cheeese I put on my plate.. :)

hmm I suppose admitting it is the first step! I feel better already.
i love cheese esp. pasta <333
The only problem is that I am not allowed to keep cheese in my fridge:-( My wife, who is Vietnamese, finds the smell of cheese disgusting and, like manny Asians, has a lactose intolerance.

The comments about the smell are coming from a person that loves Durian. This is a tropical fruit that can be smelt 3 Miles against the wind.

Good thing is that I am a Hotel Manager, the Chef has a BIIIIIG fridge full of goodies.

I to am addicted to cheese, Especially cheese and crackers.  So instead I buy the bag of small cheddar rice cakes (one serving is about 80 calories) 10 of those one slice of low fat string cheese torn apart in 10 pieces and low fat mesquite turkey breast one serving is about 5 slices so I proportion that into 10 pieces and there is an afternoon snack of meat and cheese crackers.

Hi everyone,

FYI:  The reason that cheese is an addictive food is because the casein (one of the milk proteins), contains caso-morphins, which are morphine-like substances.  The caso-morphins have a calming, or sedative sort of effect.

Dr. Neal Barnard, president of the Physician's Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) talks about the addictive properties of various foods in his book entitled 'Breaking the Food Seduction'.  Its an interesting read that some of you might find useful.

Another great book which gives a lot of insight into why we behave the way we do, and how we can transform ourselves into happier and healthier people is 'The Pleasure Trap', by Goldhamer and Lisle.

I am a former cheese-aholic.  Now I'm a vegan, but the cheese was the last thing to go, and I was very addicted to it, eating way too much of it on a regular basis.  After I finally gave up the cheese, my cholesterol plummeted from border-line high, down to a very excellent range.  I also got rid of all of my sinus problems, and never have any sort of problem with being congested anymore.
O0o0o0o0o..... I love cheese too!  After reading all this, i will now feel guilt if i eat cheese..

Yikes...!!!

Hi everyone,

This is my very first post! I really like the site am off to a good start, losing 5 lbs in my first 2 weeks.

I'd be really sad to have cheese completely out of my diet also....so here is my plan for it. I just have a little bit for "dessert," the very last thing at the end of the day.

In France, they serve cheese after dessert, at the very end of the meal, so that's where I got the idea. Likewise, there's an expression in German, "Käse schliesst den Magen," which means "Cheese closes the stomach," expressing the same idea.

I find a little chunk of a super-intense cheese had all by itself gives me the flavor-fix I'm looking for.

MAL
this probably wont get read by many, but I LOVE CHEESE TOO! But my favorite cheese savor is the lean cuisine cheese potato and broccoli singles meal thingy. I dont know exactly the name, but it is quite cheesy!
I cannot eat or smell cheese, it makes me nauseous.

But I can understand how people would get addicted. Cheese is full of fat, fat has a certain taste to it (they say on the tongue there are taste buds for the "fat" taste) and human beings are wired to love fat because fat allows you to survive when food is scarce.

I guess you're lucky, imperial huntress, not to like cheese. I don't know about you personally in any way shape or form, but lots of Chinese hate cheese...but, as for me, I took French classes just to be able to order the stinkiest and most intense cheese! Still, it's not a big part of my diet, calorie wise....just a little thing occasionally at the end of the day.
The fat isnt the good part of cheese... its like saying the alcohol is the good part of wine.

Its the full flavors and unique tastes that cant be found anywhere else that are cheeses great point (not talking about cheese-in-a-can here).

Its such a simple food (milk, culture, time) that create cheese... but the range of types and flavors that were made are boggling.

Its a lot like good french bread. Its just water, yeast, flour (and a little sugar/salt)...yet the tastes that can be created and skill to create those things is amazing (and like cheese, rare).

oooooooooooohhhhhhhhh yesss!! Mozerella (so fun to peel into strings and eat!), Brie & Camembert are my addictions. Its a good thing they are so expensive, so I am forced to keep my consumption to a reasonable limit!

Melted cheddar on toast (or just melted on a plate in the microwave) also makes my day.........

I love Cheese too!  I try to only keep reduced fat shredded mozzarella and reduced fat cheddar in my house.  I also sometimes buy string cheese (mozzarella).   I just wish cheese wasn't so fattening!!!!
Cheese has a really strong taste (delicious i might add) what i have done to cut out the cheese binges is just to eat some every now and again on a sandwich but to always keep portion sizes small

finewine - hmmm thought i was the only one who loves coffee and cheese - i work really hard at limiting my cheese because of the fat content but can really relate with anyone who is a cheese "addict"
As mentioned earlier, I love cheese; it is just hard to come by here in Vietnam.

Thus, I was in hog heaven when I was on my first visit to Europe in 8 years last week. There is a big store in Berlin, KaDeWe, that is famous for its delicatessen. When I saw the cheese counter, I almost fainted, I felt like a kid in a toy store:-)

Bought about 5 kilos of cheese (and assoreted other treats), bought vacumm boxes, and brought it back to Vietnam.

Tonight, I have invited some European friends over (most Vietnamese, including my wife, do not like cheese) and we will have a gourmet evening, diet be dam*ed!
I love cheese too! I can't stop eating it, ever, and it is probably why I will never have a superstar perfect body.

Most lite cheese tastes like crap to me, however, Jarlsburg lite is pretty good - nice and nutty flavour.

I also have been enjoying applewood smoked cheddar - it is really powerful tasting, and I can only eat a very small quantity of it at once. i could eat about 8 oz of cambazola in one sitting, so I don't keep stuff like that around anymore. Sadly.
I might have already posted on this string, but dang I do adore cheese.  I am a dairy nut in general, but Cheese is like pure gold on the tongue.  Yummy yummy.

My solution for reduction is go with alot of taste.  Swiss.  Parmesan.  Romano, etc.  Anything with BITE that I can really taste through the food.  Then I can stand to reduce the amount.

Oh sure I adore mozz and mellow cheeses, but they dont give me the kick that I need to get through this reduction process. ::sighs::  I miss being able to go into the kitchen and cut off a 2X2X4 in chunk of Colby and just sit and eat it alone. ~ Lost Artist
.
The reason I need to be on this site:

Snacking on velveta-wrapped oreos during my formative years. (I know, right? Did they want me to have a heart attack!?)

I've cut back, thank goodness, but I still have a small slice of extra-sharp cheddar every day (or it's equivalent)....

I don't think there's anything wrong with eating cheese as long as you're sensible about it. Especially if you're an addict. No need to make weight-loss any more difficult than it already is if you don't have to. Just use your head.
