anorexia = hair growth?

Quote  |  Reply

I know one of the side effects of being anorexic results in hair growth and while I am by no means anorexic (5'4, 149 lbs, 1400-1500 cal/day) I have suddenly started growing darker "peach fuzz" on the side of my face. I've always had it but it's recently become darker and I have no idea what has caused it. It can't be that i'm not eating enough because I certainly am. Any ideas? Certain nutrients I might be missing out on? Any "hair causing" foods I might be eating? Help! It's disgusting and I hate it!!!!!

I don't know how old you are, but that happens naturally as women age: at different rates and at different times. If you think it is really unusual, however, talk to your family physician about it.
One more thing: it is more common in women who are excessively under, or over, weight: hormonal reasons.
try cutting out foods that boost testosterone levels, like peanut butter, nuts and high glycemic carbs. All of us, well most of us, are blessed with the lovely peach fuzz but if its starting to grow in thicker, coarser or darker, it probably has something to do with your hormones.  you can always get rid of it by way of nair, laser, electrolysis, etc. but its best to find out why its changing in the first place.  I say, no offense because you aren't significantly overweight, try loosing 10 or so lbs.  you will be amazed on the difference it has in your hormones, make sure you are eating a very healthful and balanced diet including lean proteins, complex carbs, and lots of veggies and fruits.  cut out processed items too. I bet if you try all this, your fuzz will no longer come in dark. but the problem is getting rid of the already dark fuzz..nair!

Hope i helped ya!

It might simply be "maturity", unrelated to your diet.  Undecided

Do you know your bf level? If you're super toned, it might be too low and you don't have enough fat to keep you warm.

to answer the age question, I just turned 18 on wednesday (yay me!) so I don't think it's due to maturity. I am going to talk to my nutritionist when I see her and see what she thinks. I would nair it ir wax it but when it grows back it's probably gonna be 20x worse. I am definitely not super toned, I never have  time to work out. Maybe 20%? I think I'm totally making that up. Thanks for all your help guys!!

in the mean time you could address the problem by bleaching it.  (bleach for facial hair ie moustache, rather than hairdye for your head).

Do you have irregular periods?  Do you have acne? Do you have oily skin?

If you have any of these in tandem with the excess hair you might want to go to your doc and request some tests for polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).

Other symptoms include excess hair and being overweight.

I had problems with excessive hair growth like you described (peach fuzz) both times that I was pregnant. Hormones
