Anorexia is the most deadly mental illness.
I had (still have the thoughts, sometimes) an eating disorder.

Let me tell you, it was hell on freaking earth. I would CRY everyday, because I was too skinny and I miserable. I'm so glad I'm better now. It's not something that should be joked about or taken lightly. Most people judge, but will never know the pain and agony behind it.
I can't believe they really let models looking like that walk over a catwalk.
*(edit- 12:03am) i'm retracting my post...i should know better than to write with a drained mind. -i'll post my rebuttal when i'm sane.
Wow, those pictures are disturbing. But very thought provoking. I'm so grateful to you IX for posting this information. I never knew the agony behind the eating disorder and like you said, why people who have this disorder can get so snarly!

You are a great person! Thank you for postnig this information!
Thank you for the information. The pictures were disgusting and obviously not all real, but the point is very well taken. I don't want to look like that. The thing I don't REALLY get is...can you only be anorexic if you're very underweight? What about someone that is a healthy weight? If they still have ALL of the other symptoms, still think and feel that way, still torture themselves...that means they're just a regular person on a diet? Or should it not be considered a real issue until they are not pleasant to look at?

(this is kind of a touchy subject for me i think. i find a lot of people have the attitude that "fat people can't have eating disorders. hahahaha" and it's not true. i think heavier people torture themselves with food just as much or more.)
Well i would just like to say, I have read through the whole thread and found all those links disturbing, but very true , anorexia MOST be very hard to live with it would imagine. But one thing i would like to say is that 90% of those pictures on those links where FAKE. 100% photoshop.. There are real versions floating around somewhere and i have seen them several times.

And its not only thin people who suffer from it, but there is guides to dignosing anorexia such as loss of menstrual cycle in woman for 3 or more months..

and weighing LESS then 80% of what is expecting for height and sex.

If someone suffers from eating disorder habits [anorexia] and loses weight [maybe even slowly] has what is diagnosed as " Eating Disorder Not Otherwise Specified"

and bulimics are quite often a normal healthy weight, and some even overweight.
That is just....I really have no words for that! I'm not sure I see a reason to post them on this site!
I see a big reason

ALOT of people who suffer eating disorerds.. start off on a "diet" because they think losing weight is the root of there problem.. guarntee there is atleast a few people on this site who are at risk.

Now dont get me wrong.. im not saying everyone here is that lol.. But alot of people turn to their weight issues and in their head say " this wouldnt have happend if i wasn't so big" .. or " i could do this better if i wasnt so big" ..

in some cases this is true, in some this is the start of a quest to never be thin enough.
If you read the first page of the thread, you will find more information than just pictures. There are articles and links to suport sites. This thread was put together back in July, when there was an interest expressed by some members regarding learning more about the concerns of anorexia and solutions.
I agree that this is a great reference to have on this site. There are very many people on this site who have expressed that they are dealing with EDs or appear to be on their way to dealing with one. I think this is an excellent resource for those who are looking to lose weight and who might be inclined to do it in an unhealthy manner.

I know a lot of people have benefitted from this post and I'm sure it's saved many... so thanks Ix for making it available.

ix, this was great today.  I had found some other stuff you had posted (forget which thread), but I had printed it for someone and was planning on passing it on tonight.  This post coming to the first page today gave me some more great info to provide.

The person I'm giving the info too is not the anorexic person, but she is the dance teacher where my daughters dance, and a girl (maybe 13 yrs old) in the class is anorexic...it's sad for me every time I see her.
Ditto for me. One our good friends has just dropped 18 lbs in a month and upon the urging of all us, she's finally gone to see her doctor about it. What's worse is that he didn't even notice - even after weighing her - that something might be wrong.
Also, even if the photos are fake, we already have some great examples of anorexia - just look at the celebrity mags at the supermarket - I'd hazard to guess that most of the women in tv/movies have suffered or are suffering.

thank you

Thank-you for putting together such a comprehensive post!  It's a great resource to give to people.
I'm sorry but I disagree that this is helping. This thread, while the information is good, is just a statement of facts, and the pictures wont help any real anorexic.
If anything the pictures will be used an thinspo if they haven't already.
I also believe that a complete recovery in both mind and body is impossible for someone with an ED.

just putting my two cents worth in.
You know what I hate the most- people who dot have the disease talking about it like they know what its like.
No one can understand this unless you have it.
thank u so much
your right love  no one can understand this unless they have it. its unimaginable.
