Am i anorexic?(could be triggering)

Im 5ft 4.5in, 14 years old and 103lbs. A few months ago i was 125lbs. I usually eat 200-500 calories a day and have been doing this for awhile. I started eating 1500 then it went down to 1200, and then just keep getting lower and lower. I know this isnt healthy and it sounds like i might have a bit of an ED. But the thing is even though im continueously loosing weight i binge usually once every week eating around 2500calories that day. does this mean im not anorexic because anorexics never eat alot or "binge" like i do. and i know i binge because im not eating enough but i dont care i cant eat anymore i just cant.

ugh im sorry for this long rant, but i just dont know whats wrong with me i thought i might have a problem, but then again i cant because i actually eat like once a week or so and people with EDs seem like they NEVER have slip ups while loosing weight.

AHHHHHHHH! :[

it is a myth that anorexics do not binge.  many do.  it is the body's way of trying to survive.  Anorexics DO eat.  And you don't necessarily have to be underweight either.  You can die at any weight while engaging in ED behaviors.

yes, I would say you have an ED.  Are you concerned?  Please seek help...you are truly risking your life.

Take you concern very seriously !  Your very smart brain is telling you that you are engaging in dangerous behaviors.  Yes your calorie intake is way way too low.   Message me if you want to talk ok?

Hi luv! It sounds to me like you are at the crest of an ED. The fact that you eat so little on the days you don't binge is an indication of unhealthy eating, and possibly an onset of anorexia. About a year and a half ago, I lost a lot of weight eating about 1800 calories a day [exercising to burn only about 200-300 of those off] and although I wasn't technically [or medically] anorexic because I ate a sufficient amount of calories, I still was at a VERY VERY low weight, and my health and psyche suffered severely from it. I suggest you seek help, and tell someone about this, before you lose even more weight and put you life at risk. Take care of yourself darling!

There a 4 types of EDs:

Anorexic restictive

Anorexic binging/purging (restrict most of the time)

Bulimia= binging and purging/compensating constantly (typically normalish weight)

AND Binge Eating= Binging with no compensating (Put on weight)

So yes you sound like ypu have Anorexia (Type 2 with the binging and purging)

BUT your post is a cry for help and that is positive!! You are not so disillusioned yet to know that what you are doing is dangerous :) Ask for help, see some counsellors etc before you do get stuck

Good Luck xo

You're describing binge restrict type anorexia. It is important that, now you have recognised this issue, you go speak to a doctor as soon as possible.

There is no way that, on so little food, you are getting all the nutrients you need. You are starving yourself. Plain and simple. An adult woman needs 1200 calories per day to survive, a teenage girl or an adult man 1500 per day bare minimum, and a teenage boy 1800 per day minimum and that is when SEDENTARY. If you are exercising, you need even more than that. And this is the bare minimum.

Unless you are very, very short and small it is very likely you will need even more calories than those minimum guidelines. If you are 21 or older use CC's tools to work out your BMR. If you are under 21, CC's tools are inaccurate and you should use this calculator instead: http://www.bcm.edu/cnrc/bodycomp/bmiz2.html as you are still growing. Yes, even in the later years - there's more going on inside of you that you simply can't see.

Eating too low a calorie intake, or having a deficit from your BMR greater than 1000 results in something called "survival mode", where your body holds every last thing it can get in expectance of a famine. Water, food, calories. Explained:

  • Dieting & Metabolism - This article explains starvation mode and why undereating is counter productive.
  • The Body Neglected - This is what happens when you undereat for an extended period of time.

The physical dangers that come with undereating and being underweight are numerous. You put yourself at risk of osteoporosis, of loss of fertility if you lose your period, hair loss, electrolyte problems, a weakening of the immune system, low blood pressure, blood disorders such as anemia, heart problems, and even death. From The Body Neglected: Between 5% and 20% of people who develop [anorexia] eventually die from it. The mental woes that come alongside can be just as devestating. Depression is common in undereaters - as you may well be experiencing - as well as distorted perceptions and problems like Body Dysmorphic Disorder.

So to your doctor, again: call and make an appointment tomorrow if you can. You are describing a disordered eating pattern even if you claim otherwise and this is something you need to talk to your doctor about. If you want some online support try http://www.something-fishy.org, and take a look through CC's Eating Disorders Health, Resources and Info Thread. But your most immediate concern is your health - and for that that means you need to talk to your doctor, and a close family member. A parent is usually wise.

- Ellie/Lala.

Eating 200 calories a day is STARVING YOURSELF.

It is NOT normal, and it is NOT okay to eat that little, you will eventually die if you keep going. The once a week binge will not save you if you only eat 200 calories for the other 6 days a week.

Of COURSE eating 200 calories a day means you have a problem - it is not normal to starve yourself… what did you expect to hear? Did you actually think it was normal? It just goes to show how starving your body of what it needs can make you stop thinking logically! If you were thinking straight, you would know that 200 calories a day is starving yourself and therefore it is not a normal thing you can do for ever.

On top of starving yourself, you also have to address the non physical reasons you are starving yourself and I truly wish you the best of luck fighting your demons - SO many people on this website will tell you how much better it is to chose LIFE over ANOREXIA, or starving yourself.

You have so much to look forward to - imagine being able to feel okay about eating normally, with no fear or worries about it.

Your are not in this alone, REMEMBER, there are LOTS of people o this site who are trying to recover from eating disorders, you are NOT ALONE!

There are plenty of people here who would be happy to give you advice and support!

Good luck.
