Watch our for Walmart and Acadia water.  And the rest really aren't any better than most tap anyway...

I just read this. WOW!

"Lab tests detected 38 chemicals in 10 brands, with an average of eight contaminants found in each kind of bottled water. Tests showed coliform bacteria, caffeine, the pain reliever acetaminophen, fertilizer, solvents, plastic-making chemicals and the radioactive element strontium."

Just proves that:

A) they are just using tap water B) that they aren't filtering it for anything but visible contaminants.

I don't drink bottled water at home, but for convenience I do buy (gasp) sam's water for horse shows, car trips, etc.    Guess not anymore...

My boss is too close to me today so I can't click the link.  Did they test Deja Blue?  That's the bottled water I usually drink.

Sams Choice (walmart) and Acadia (Giant food stores) were the only once specifically named since they exceeded California safety laws.  However they tested 10 brands, so since DejaBlue is a national brand (bottled under Coke, right?) it may have been one tested.    Even if not, chances are, if they tested 10 brands and found chemicals in all of them, most bottled waters would be the same.

Here's another link, directly to the EWG's article.

Too bad the tap water at my house tastes and smells like bleach.  I am forced to use bottled water.  We just got a culligan machine, though.  Refill it at the culligan station at the local grocier for pretty cheap, and avoid the nastiness of our tap.

I wish they'd test Smart Water.  That's what I buy if I do buy individual bottles.

You could buy a charcoal filter for your home tap.  They will take the chlorine out. Then bottle your own if you need to take some with you.

Bottled water is a waste of money and natural resources.  I don't understand why people complain about paying $4.00 for a gallon of gas but willingly and unnecessarily pay more than that for water.

That's not a bad idea, but to refill a 5 gallon jug from a culligan station costs between $1.25 and $1.95 depending on which store I go to... not too bad.  Thanks for the idea of the filter, though.  I might do that so I don't have to use the culligan water for everything I cook with.  I don't even use tap for rice, pasta, or coffee right now.

You can save yourself a lot of money by just running a big container of the tap water and letting it sit. The chlorine will evaporate out very quickly and you can use it to cook with. By the time the water would come to a boil there would be no more chlorine smell/taste to the water. Cooking with it should not be a concern.

In the 70's the tap water in the town I lived in became more heavily chlorinated. We were fairly close to the water plant and our side of town had a stronger chlorine taste than other places. We got one of those charcoal filters and they work very well. Much cheaper than buying water from anywhere.

In my environmental class I chose to do my final project on bottled water vs. tap.
People would spazz out if they realized what was in the bottled water they pay so much for. STICK WITH TAP! haha

I drink tap water, well water (tested for contaminants), filtered tap water.  It is all the same to me.  I do not drink stream water....giardia would be icky to have.....although it looks so good.  Anyway, my boss was drinking bottled water and I started saving all his bottles to show him all the waste....he now refills about 10 bottles and has not purchased another case!!
