Another 10-15lbs group
Hi, I would like to get in shape for the summer...I am currently in college and have gained a bit more weight than I would have liked to:) I am 5'3 and weigh 143lbs...would love to go down to 125lbs or so over the course of the next few months and would love to hear from anyone else with the same situation?
I could certainly do with some motivation...someone to chat to when Im contemplating a chocolate binge:)
Oh wow, it seems like this is a binge week for most of us! I'm also experiencing a little of that extra calories this week; ahahah (nervous laugh)...although, I feel horrible for messing up this week -I also have the feeling we will be fine! So let's do this thing and then it's off to a new start!!
well - as i feared, not a great week...will have to do better this coming week - my daughter will be in portugal with her dad, which means that i'll be more mobile...hopefully...
it landed at 133,2
hope the rest of you did better.
135LBS. Officially I've gained 3 lbs in 3 weeks. This past week I believe I've been in a steady deficit however have continued to gain .5 lbs. I'm also quite active and am typically in the range of 300-500 calorie deficit. Fighting off the self-criticism and doubts. Need a vigilant plan.
Here's my plan for the upcoming week:
Limiting myself to one restaurant meal per 3 days.
No espresso (I've only had one this past week).
Log calories while "on the road (working)"
Zigzag-3 days calorie deficit, one day maintenance
If something doesn't change or I continue to gain, time to go see the doctor.

Well do you feel and look slimmer? Because if you look slimmer but weigh more then it might be muscle weight as muscle weighs more then fat.
Physically I feel pretty good. I don't appear any larger or smaller but I haven't been using a tape measure this year. My clothes are about the same.
Emotionally I'm feeling a bit down regarding the weight issue. I don't want to get caught in an emotional wave that is negative. It's not worth it... but right now I feel challenged and frustrated. I think I'm going to have to make some changes.
At 3500 calories/lb, I know I could not and did not consume an extra 10,500 calories over my maintenance calories for the last 3 weeks. This doesn't make any logical sense regarding calories in vs. calories out. I need to keep my head steady, I suppose it could be sodium and water retention to some degree.
I eat out too often lately. I may also be mis-logging those calories. Still I'm fairly certain I haven't eaten the extra 10,500 calories beyond maintenance it would take to gain 3 lbs. Still the scale is slapping me around pretty severely right now. My mood has tanked.
Today, I am at 139.6.......My eating could be a bit better but I worked out everyday. I'm happy that working out is becoming a regular habit, not a dreaded one........We'll see how next week goes...Good luch everyone.
Thanks for letting me join!!
Ok...so my first weigh in...yay:)..today I'm at 128. Didn't gain any this week but didn't lose any either :(... and today at work my manager brought me a piece of chocolate cake and begged me to eat it because his wife made it and he wanted to me to try it.. so I took a little piece and it was really really good..so i ate the whole thing..:(... I also had a small piece of chocolate and some tortilla chips...so I had a bad day today..but I ate around my maintenance calories so..the effect shouldn't be too bad.
I will however work hard tomorrow..so hopefully I'll still reach my goal.

I succumbed to the temptation.......damn chocolate covered peanuts are killin me!! why did my husband have to bring home a whole bag??? but they taste so good. not very optimistic for tomorrow but i'm gonna exercise tonight after dinner....maybe :)
Maybe you could thank him for the thought, but ask him if he can withhold and hide all but a small portion for you next time. then he can be thoughtful again later & save some money at the same time!
Okay so yesterday I weighed in at 110.2 (the SAME as last week!) However it is the TOM so I am hoping that had something to do with it. I also had my wisdom teeth out yesterday, only had 500 calories of which 500 calories came up so I had more like 0 calories and weighed 107.5 this morning. I am just going to ignore that one though as much as I loved seeing it! ;) Today I am feeling better and can keep food down but still can not chew food. So far I've had a yogurt, some mashed bananas and about 3/4 of a cup of vanialla milkshake my husband bought me yesterday, I know not the best choice but it is what I can actually eat. I am trying to get in at least 1000 calories today. I hope we all have a better week this week!
Hmm...the fluctuation in weight could also be clothes and accessories; if you look the same then it sounds like muscle weight -muscle helps you burn more calories so it's not a bad thing. Ahaha, well that's just my guess anyways; I hope you get it figured out and back on track. ![]()
Hey ladies,
I decided, on a whim, to come to Jerusalem for the week. I\m here now, and while I don\t move around too much, I also eat less. I won\t be logging this week, as it\s all about eating out and it\s too time consuming to find the ingredients and manually log every single thing, but i\ll stay on track, maybe get a wee bit of excercise squeezed in, but probably not enough... anyway, it\s great to be here again, and my family was really surprised to see me walk through the door. My long time friend from back home happens to be here as well, and we went out for dinner last night, which was a blast... so all in all a great decision to come here, but maybe not the wisest weight wise. I\ll be back in Denmark by the 17th and will weigh in on the 18th. Hope you all have a fabulous time these coming days....
Happy Sunday everyone,
I'm back home today from my wk long vacation. It's great to sleep in your own bed, isn't it? In spite of the heat, profuse sweating and walking involved in tackling 5 days of amusement parks, I came in @ 141.2 today. That's almost +2 since last wk. Oh well, it was a great vacation.
snehvide - the spontaneous trip to Jerusalem is a great idea! You know, if we keep things in perspective, years from now you'll remember being with your family and old friend, but you won't remember how much you weighed that week! Have fun and be carefree.
The chart's been updated. It's on p.2, post #26. Many who started with us on wk1 have fallen off. I'll give it one more wk and then I'll start peeling off the folks who haven't reported in a few wks.
Some recreational data:
*13 responded on wk 3
*5 of these folks are brand new as of wk 3
*28 folks entered the group since 5/23 - 6/8/08. As noted, many are falling off.
We've really only been at it for 2 wks. (wk 1 was our original starting weight as the group was forming in late may). Stay with it everyone. I can see we ARE making progress. If we've been up in weight it hasn't been by much. We're changing our excercise and eating patterns so our bodies will fluctuate while it adjusts. Sorry for the long post. Have a great comming week. - Hasta
hi everyone,
i'm think i'm a bit green with envy with snehvide and hasta with the traveling and fun! way to go and enjoy your vacation from caloric deficits:)
gracelynn-your general advice to just simply get on track and to look at other factors in the journey to health is really supportive and helpful. when i'd fallen into a sad trajectory regarding the 3 pound weight gain, you reminded me through your support to get more logical about what's really going on. funny, the next morning i weighed myself again because the number from the day prior didn't make sense to me logically... Saturday morning i weighed in at 131.8lbs instead of 135. It reflected my expectations and my calorie deficit much more accurately. ahhh, science. turns out that 3 lb weight gain was likely fluid retention. i was all upset for nothing...
this thread has been invaluable to me already. thanks everyone.
So it's Sunday and I haven't logged in for a couple days. I was out of town due to a family member passing too young therefore nothing was logged. Although I did get on the scale today and I was 184.7 which is .5 up from last week. I can't complain with everything that I was eating though. Now that I'm back home, I'm back at it.
Good luck everyone on the upcoming week!
Natalie,
So very sorry to hear of your loss...
You're very thoughtful to offer us all good luck when you're recovering from a loss.
Welcome back and good luck to you too.
Rene
Hi everyone!
Sounds like there are some adventures happening, some eating, and some good days. I myself worked a lot this weekend, but also ate more than I should. I really struggle with potlucks and meals where you are grazing. I never really thought dieting would be this hard. I have such a hard time saying no to myself. I always think, "it's a special occasion so it's ok to eat too much." I need to shake that, or at least save the thought for actual special occasions.
I thought it would be a good idea to think about why I want to lose weight, because maybe it would make it easier to stay motivated
1. Feel comfortable in a bikini and other clothes
2. Become a faster runner
3. Stop overeating to a point where I have reflux and a stomach ache
What are everyone else's top 3 reasons to lose weight?
1. Feeling comfortable in my skin
2. General health and well-being
3. Great clothes and positive attention:)
1 better health
2 better looks (that might mean increased self esteem and perhaps a date;-)
3 more options when clothes shopping...
And Hasta, you're right - it is a matter of perspective, and for the time being, i'm having a great time, enjoying great company and the hot sun....
Good to hear you had a great vacation, and as you said, two pounds more are not important in the long run...
Natalie, sorry to hear about your loss, i hope you're okay.
I just wanted to let you all know that I really love this group and find it so important to be part of it...
guys,
I had a bad weekend, so much for working hard. Today I felt so lazy that I just did nothing but watch tv and eat.. and nothing healthy either. I decided, however, to still log my calories and check in and of course....u guys came up with an excellent way to re-motivate me (thank u smader)...I knew doing this other people would be an excellent idea :)
1) Feeling confident
2) Feeling comfortable in clothes and wearing the ones I want to wear (maybe even a bikini)
3) Going home and not hearing everybody go 'oh u gained a lot of weight.....u need to lose some of that' like they did last summer
Natalie...I'm also sorry to hear about your loss
snevhide..I hope u're enjoying Jerusalem. :)
