Hi, I would like to get in shape for the summer...I am currently in college and have gained a bit more weight than I would have liked to:) I am 5'3 and weigh 143lbs...would love to go down to 125lbs or so over the course of the next few months and would love to hear from anyone else with the same situation?

I could certainly do with some motivation...someone to chat to when Im contemplating a chocolate binge:)

Hello ladies,

I got back from a wonderful trip to jerusalem to some bad news on the scale---i promised i would log today, and unfortunately it's 133.8.....

I just received my new running shoes though, and am excited about that... i'm only around for the next two weeks though, since i'm off to jerusalem again for the entire month of july, but i will get a scale there and do my weigh ins from there - it will probably also help me stay on track...

well....weigh in again on friday... good luck to you all.

welcome back snehvide!  You were missed.  I'm surprised that you will be going back for a month.  Wasn't this trip a surprise to your family?  Was the surprise that you were going to be there a month early? Ha ha, just joking.  Sounds great.  Certainly hope that you have a seamless connection to us in July while you're gone.  Yeah running shoes!  I hope they have a mind of their own and just keep going when you are ready to stop.Wink

Gosh, as for moi, I'm struggling this week.  I've been making small progress but now I feel that perhaps I'm sabotaging myself.  Have you ever felt that way?  I'm being pretty liberal.  Not out of the ball park, but maybe a lot of foul balls.  I've always had a pretty hard time keeping w/in my recommended calorie budget.  It's 1300 and on my fairly good day (with not unjust suffering, I'm at 1700.  I was probably a lot higher b4 I kept tracking... may 1900-2000, but still....  Needless to say, Friday's going to be a nail bitter for me, but I haven't kicked it into gear yet.

HI its been a long time...my internet has been down until today so im back again with a vengence! lost about one pound in two weeks so im not so happy but sure il see what fridays weigh in has to say...eating approx 1500 a day and doing about half an hour - one hour exercise every day...just looking for a few opinions, should i be doing a lot more to lose weight im just finding it very hard to motivate myself, any advice would be great.

Eg today I had one weetabix with skimmed milk and banana for brekkie, apple for snack at eleven, lunch was wholemeal pitta with half tin of tuna in brine and a pink n white (oops they are my downfall but they contain v little fat??) and for dinner I had broccoli, carrots and caulifower mixed with a chicken kiev followed by another pink n white and apple as snack before bed...

For exercise i went for a thirty min walk with my dog, did one hundred jumping jacks when i got up and will do one hundred more before bed...also yoga/stretching for 20mins. i slendertone my stomach twice daily also....is this adequate exercise or should i be doing more??

any advice would be greatly appreciated thanks

ter x

Hahaha Hasta, yes, my little trip last week was a surprise visit, since my daughter went to Portugal with her dad, and I found myself a bit restless here... decided to jump on a plane and get some stuff done in Jerusalem that I can't do with my daughter around (I'm a project manager on a playground project in a refugee camp!) and of course I had my share of fun while there too...

I'm off again for the summer because my cousin is getting married and the whole family will be flying in from all over, so it'll be huge family gatherings, trip to the beach and a ton of barbeque outings...but with my new running shoes there is no stopping me..I went running today and while I wasn't supposed to do more than 32 minutes, I didn't feel tired and just went on for 43 minutes instead - only stopped because I have work to do and had to go home...so Hasta, you are right, I got a pair that just keep going...a bit like the energizer bunny :-) What a difference it makes to have the right shoes! The other ones feel like clogs in comparison!

The food thing is the issue for me...I'm a nibbler.... and if i don't keep track of every little thing that goes down my throat, I fall off the waggon - I'm also at 1300 cals a day, and often will go overboard with a few hundred, so my loss hasn't been as significant as I could have hoped for, but by following the excercise program, I find it easier to legitimise my munchies :-) the weigh in tomorrow though, should be less of a positive surprise (I keep hoping that it's because i'll be having my period...but that doesn't seem to be the reason..)

Ter, great to have you back here, to me it seems that you're doing well with the amount of time you excercise, maybe it's just a matter of making it a bit more hard; instead of walking your dog, perhaps you can run with him? And while I don't know what kind of yoga you do, maybe doing some pilates instead will give you a bit more of a work out. Weights are also great (while I were in Jerusalem, I didn't have my dumbbells and instead used my mom's bowling ball, that certainly gave me an increased work out!!!:-D) - I haven't lost much weight overall, but i've lost 13 cm in all in a month...

See you all again tomorrow...for another one of those excruciating moments of truth!

Hi Everyone!

Glad to see there are still some folks hanging around this post.  I'm finding it very helpful to check-in... you were invaluable to me a week or two ago when I couldn't figure out my scale!

Hasta, I don't know how you live on 1300 calories per day.  Have you considered reducing your deficit to a smaller one?  The weight loss would go slower but you may be less frustrated and find it easier to maintain.  BTW, I've discovered a great snack if you're ok with seafood.  10 large shrimp are approximately 55 calories and a pretty impressive food choice.  I've been eating them with some salsa instead of cocktail sauce.  Helps my protein and hunger pangs.

Regarding ter's question about upping exercise.  You will lose weight provided you are running a calorie deficit.  Your health however will be effected in many ways by many different activities.  You have to discover the right recipe for you through experimentation.  I'm still working on this too.  I think I need to mix it up a bit and work on using muscles that remain under-worked.

Snehvide, traveling and controlling the calorie input is tough work.  I'm a sales rep and find myself on the road quite frequently.  Sometimes I find it difficult to track what I eat much less find food worth putting into my body.  I carry food with me but sometimes that gets tiresome and I end up wanting to eat something hot or sit down somewhere for a meal.  Also, the times with clients that include "consumption", I just let it go.  Then I try to go right back to the deficit the next day.  Sometimes it is easy and other days, not so much.  I find that it's more important psychologically for me to maintain a deficit over time, not necessarily daily.  Getting back into the groove since last year has been quite a lot of work but I'm slowly getting there.

With each other's support I think we can all progress significantly toward our goals!

weigh in day came with a surprise....I don't know if i should get a new scale or if I should just be happy!

it says: 131,4

good job nehvide!

I am at 107.8 I think a few oz more than last week but I will take it!

HI everyone!

I feel like I have been on and off the wagon for the past two weeks.  It is hard to eat right when you are going out to eat and everyone is drinking and having fried food.  Also at work, when I am bored I eat sometimes.  I am trying not to eat food from the break room and drinking water and moving around when I get antsy.

Snehvide-Your travels sound great!  How fun.  BBQ's are hard.  I can't say I do well, but I am going to try to just limit what I eat and fill up on veggies.  Good luck with running.  I love to run, but currently limited due to a knee injury.  New shoes, clothes, or other equipment makes such a difference in motivation.

Ter-Glad to see you back.  Walking the dog is great, can you speed up your pace?  or walk longer?  This would help you feel more in shape.  Also you could try  a new route, maybe one that has a hill or two.

Hasta-thanks again for organizing the weigh in note area.  I often feel like I am going to sabatage my diet.  I am always telling myself, "it's a special occasion"  or I worked out harder than usual.  Or I much prefer an IPA beer over a light beer.  I need to bring myself back to why I want to be trimmer.

I hope everyone is doing well.  My goal this weekend is to not gain a pound (a habit I have had for too long)  I will do this by limiting drinking and being active.  Also not eating until I am too full.  Let's see how it goes!

have a great weekend

Well, no surprise for me here. I'm up this week to 139.8.  Up from 137 ish.  The culprits:

didn't excercise as much as the prior week,

drank beer at the lake and at a bbq (Not much better, but I usually stick to wine).

ate my kids left over tatter tots and had a ton of chips when I was with friends on day.

another funny thing--- I'm late by 4 days at this time.  No, don't even let it enter your mind.  I'm too old for that and unless it were an immaculate conception it's impossible.  Still I'm concerned b/c I am as regular as a german train schedule.  I'd like to think that part of the gain still had a little to do with this though.

Well, I'm confident I can get it back down by next week.  Keep up the chatter.  It's really helpful. - Hasta

Its weigh in day.  I'm at 138.4.  That's down 2 pounds from last week.  I'll take that anyday!!!!!  Its about 7:43 a.m. here in Hawaii.  I managed to get myself out of bed early this morning and took a spinning class.  I am so WIRED right now!!!!!  I feel good.

I hope everyone is doing well.  Keep up all the great work and have a good weekend.

See you next week.

144.6 but feeling some new muscle so it's good. Cheats this week I must confess: 1 can of pepsi, handful of peanut M&M's, chocolate chip cookie, 2 pieces chocolate cake and 10 pringles. Spread out over the last week of course. Anyone else indulge on major NO NO's??!

balehead, i confess to having eaten nacho and cheese flavored doritos yesterday- somehow i always manage to convince myself that it's ok on days where i've lost weight--- counterproductive, really, i know! but good to hear that you're discovering new muscles...way to go!

Hasta...well, i won't let that thought cross my mind, and hope that it's due to something else, stress? i was late this time too, and think that it might be because i've begun excercising... btw, i love your profile pic! good to have a face to go with the personality :-)

Bettyboop, i'm sooo jealous...Hawaii - for us continentals it's one of those dream destinations that evoke everything romantic and magnificent that exists...

smader, i totally know what you mean about the eating out - for me it's almost a blessing in disguise not having plans for an entire weekend, because i get tempted so easily when i see good foods and drinks... Good for you that you manage to do something new when bored at work, maybe it's all just habitual?!

karensue, what is your goal??? If i were where you are, i think i'd be dancing the hoola in hawaii Wink

good luck to you all this week

129.8

Ahahhahaha...I confess to eating some kettle chips too. Tongue out

Oh and yeah -I agree with Snehvide! It's a great thing that you posted your picture Hasta! Now you're a face and not just a question mark Tongue out

Well, thanks for the gracious welcome to my pic.  I'm pretty conservative in most ways of my life.  When it comes to the web, I'm not into facebook and that kind of stuff.  Anyway, I did want be a little closer to the people that are helping me daily.  I felt a little bit like I was hiding.  The reason I chose Hasta, what the hope, " Hasta la vista, extra pounds!"

Ha ha, I am almost 5 feet even so 108  is not hawaii size yet ;) I am hoping very soon!

oh and my goal is 100

Things have been going alright here.  Trying to listen to my body and stop eating when I am full.  My biggest problems include eating when I am bored, and not moving around enough at work.  I don't think I emotional eat that much, I overeat because I love the flavor of things so much!  Like last night for example,  I had a great dinner of veggies and grilled pork, and was full after dinner.  Then my husband had some ice cream and I had a bowl as well.  It was probably only 150-200 calories, but I wasn't even hungry.  That is the problem at bbq's, and potlucks as well.  It is all about learning how to eat...

Hasta I like the pic, I will have to find one to post as well.  Right now all the pictures on my computer are of my home remodel, and most of those don't have people in them.  Or they are my neighbors who are doing most of the work.

Well I hope everyone has a good week.  I am going to try to have good days without overeating before Friday's weigh in!

Ahaha, that's funny Hasta but those are good reasons. Smile

Hi Karensue0307! Welcome!!!! Laughing

Lol, don't worry about it smader -it happens to the best of us, if not all of us, lol.
