Another P90X Question

Quote  |  Reply

I have been interested in starting P90X.  I still need to loose about 50-65 lbs.  Will this be a good program for me to start?  I have been working out with weights and cardio and have lost 50lbs in the past year.  Any advice or is this too difficult for me?

Thanks in advance!

 Hi there!

You'll want to take the FIT test before purchasing.  If you pass, you're good to go!

Thanks! I will definately check it out before purchasing!

How have ur results from P90X been?

Great!  I put on a ton of muscle, and I'm fitter now than I've ever been in my life.

Remember though, to get max results, following the nutrition plan is a must.  Good luck!

I saw a downloadable nutrition plan for p90x online in Excel formatt.  It really seemed like wayyy too much calorieis for me.  Could someone eat like this and still loose weight?

Well, it tells you how to roughly calculate your required calories while on the program. You gotta remember, you're going to be building a lot of muscle, not just burning fat.  So yes, I'd say it's necessary.

Ok, thanks so much for your help!

Anytime. :) Come visit us in the ladies' P90x thread.

Will do.  I went over the FIT test, but have not actually done it.  I know the pull ups are out of the question for me.  I am considereing doing power 90 first then going to p90x.

The P90X stands for "Xtreme", and it is. Another poster suggested you review their minimum expectations before purchasing and I totally agree. Can you be in a sitting position against a wall (like you're sitting in a chair) for 90 seconds? This excludes many people right off. If you aren't regularly exercising pretty hard, it might not be for you.

You may want to start with the "Power 90 At Home Boot Camp" program first. You can find it (and others) on the beachbody website by clicking "site menu" at the bottom or here: http://www.beachbody.com/product/fitness_prog rams/power90.do?code=SM_P90

It was the first one developed and while it isn't easy, it is easier. The P90X was developed for those who had already gone through the Power 90 program and are ready for a very intense program. If you can't complete a program, you will be discouraged and will have wasted your money.

You will have to buy a chin up bar if you don't have one. They are cheaper on Amazon and other sites, or even a discount warehouse store than on the beachbody site. Beware that these fit against a door frame and are only as safe as that frame. I heard one person was paralized when one fell off and they apparently hit their spine coming down. This was probably more the door frames fault or it wasn't secured, rather than the actual chin up bar. But I don't have the details.

I just lost almost 40 pounds and I'm 155 now. I've been going to the gym almost every day for 4 months and I push about 140 lbs and I can bike 30 miles. I would not order the xtreme for myself because I think it is too much for me, even though I am in good shape and have lots of endurance. The Power 90 would be my choice and even that is a big challenge. I do plan on ordering it and when I complete that, then I would consider P90X. I can see how people would want the results it offeres, but consider what it would take to transform from out of shape to and incredible looking body in 3 months. I think it is more intense than it might appear to most.

Let us know how it goes.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the great advice. I just prdered the power 90. I will update with progress.

Where can I find the downloadable Nutrition info? I am going to start p90x too.  I have done random workouts, but never completed the system.

I ordered the P90x and after watching some of the dvds to get a feel for the program I decided it would be smart to be in somewhat good shape to start it. If you need to lose 50 pounds, then you probably aren't ready to begin the program  yet. This program is for people who are already somewhat in shape but want to take it up a notch. I too need to lose around 50 pounds so i know its frustrating. I want to see top of the line results so Im gonna lose some more fat before i start it. Whatever you decide, good luck to you!

I ordered Power 90, so I will do that one and maybe move onto p90x afterwards.

Here, Dispatchn.

thank you!! You rock!

Congrats on ordering Power90! Tony Horton is an awesome trainer and he keeps me moving in P90X. If for any reason you don't like Power90, don't forget that it has a 30 day money back guarantee.  That way you can be sure that you are using the program that works best for you. ChaLEAN Extreme is another awesome 90 day workout that, even though it says extreme, it is for those that aren't quite ready for P90X. Beachbody has so many great products it's hard to choose just one!
