Anti- Depression Meds

I'm starting a diet today.  I need to lose almost 50 lbs.  I'm 49 years old, and fairly active (walk a lot).  I feel I have been on a diet my whole life, with no success.  Anyhow, this site may be just what I need.  My question for everyone is, can I lose weight even though I take a lot of medication?  I take effexor, klonopin, depakote, lipitor, celebrex, and protonix.  I had a complete hysterectomy in October 2006 so now I use a hormone patch on top of everything else.  Please somebody out there with all this in common re assure me that I can lose weight!!!

I take Effexor, actos, glucophage, synthroid and januvia

i lost 13 lbs so far in a month

i stay on 1500 calories like my doctor told me to and

avoid totally white foods.  Though i do love milk i bought some calorie countdown which tastes like water...and when that was gone i allow myself one cup if i want it so i don't fee deprived.

You can do it!

Just stick with it thats the hardest part.

I weigh 306 now, i did way 319 a month ago.
Hi Myla, Just be sure you don't cut fats completely, particularly omega 3's... google "omega 3 and bipolar disorder" and you'll see why.

Good sources of omega-3's include ground flax seed, olive oil, nuts...
Thanks for the replies.  I did check on omega 3 and found that interesting.  I will investigate that more.  Also, I hadn't heard to stay away from"white" foods.  I'll also try that.  Does that include popcorn?  That's my weakness, also potatoes.
Personally I think popcorn and potatoes can be a healthy part of any diet. Particularly if you choose popcorn that is low in fat - no trans fats and added chemicals. And eat the skin of the potato for the extra fiber and nutrients.

Everything in moderation, of course... it's one thing to have one baked potato with the skin with low-fat cottage cheese, versus a couple of huge heaps of mashed potatoes drowned in sour cream and loads of butter. :-)

(okay now you have me craving mashed potatoes!)
I'm on depakote, celexa, seroquel and oxazepam. I've lost 26 pounds so far, and it's coming off steadily.

Jenmcc mentioned omega 3 and I just wanted to add that the addition of omega 3 to my diet has helped me immeasurably. Flax seed in particular is quite easy to sneak into all kinds of things.

Best of luck to you.
Hi,

I take Paxil, Wellbutrin and Lyrica. I have also been on steroids for asthma which helped me really gain weight. I'm suprisingly losing weight slowly, but surely. I started eating healthier a couple of months ago and it has helped. At the very least I figure at least I won't gain anymore. :)
Good Luck!
