Hey everyone,
I've been having these weird bouts lately where I feel horrible - yet completely empty. It's hard to describe... I don't feel like doing nothing, but there's nothing I feel like doing. I don't feel sleepy or tired, but nothing sounds better than the unconsciousness that sleeping brings. Sometimes I can make it go away by forcing myself to go out for a run - that usually helps, but I don't know why this is happening or what to do about it. I find that often I get it on days where I haven't hit my goal for daily cardio and/or lifting, or have had to go out to eat somewhere where I have no clue what the calories I ate were, but even then, I'm not sure if that's what's causing it since (esp. the restaurant thing) doesn't really cause me anxiety at the time.
I do hate not getting much exercise in a day (I usually get 30-45 min. of cardio every day, 15-20 lifting every other) but I don't understand why I would react subconsciously in such a way.
has anyone ever had this happen to them before, and if so, what did you do??
thanks!

I used to be like this. I wouldn't feel right unless I worked out, and if I ate over 800 calories I felt like such a failure. that was the beginning of an ED, and I didn't let it get far enough.. I was hurting myself by working out too much and eating too little. to be honest the only was I got over it was by eating more and feeling the freedom to eat and knowing that eating meant living.. and also, knowing that skipping a day of working out would not make me gain 5 pounds. don't know if that's the same road you're on, but either way, I feel for you.
Hi there
I have a very long history of depressiona nd anxiety (turns out i have bipolar) so hopefully i can help. It sounds like to me that you are experiencing situational depression. This is a depression that happens when something environmental (feeling like you havnt done enough exercise, not knowing how many cals youve eaten) cause you to feel down and depressed. its not a chemical depression which is hwy you are able to bring yourself out of it by going for a run.
The best way to deal with this type of depression is alot of self talk. This is when you acknowledge your feelings but consider wether the thoughts that contribute to the feelings are actually realistic. Thoughts lead to feelings, change the thoughts = change the feelings.
I strongly encourage you to read a book called MIND OVER MOOD, its a great book that has worksheets and tasks for you to complete in order to teach you to change your mood by changing the way you think. Its written by Dennis Greenberger and Christine Padesky.
I hope this helps

i do the same thing. sometimes i feel that this way for no reason at all but it does seem sometimes to revolve around my excercise and lifestyle.
i often get depressed when i think of how my life used to be and how i used to eat everything i wanted and not cared but now that i have an eating disorder im pretty much miserable and depressed a good perecentage of the time..its most likely a cause of eating or not eating
i get mad sometimes when i just want to snack but cannot afford it in my cals!!!! as i will not stray from my calories or overeat. unless saturday which is my relax calorie day. i dont miss bad fried foods or fast foods, i miss sweets. i love to eat my healthy foods burt sometimes i dont like the restriction. and i get depressed too from the stress of excercising and watching cals but i love the way my body looks. i cant win!!
