Does anybody eat on this website?

I keep looking at peoples responses to various topics and people are saying stuff like: "I had half of a soy latte for breakfast... then a balance bar.. and then a sweet potato for dinner... why am I hungry right before bed? Oh and i run for about 3 hours every day."

do people eat or is it just me. I am 110 pounds... and 5"6'... and eat three big meals and 2 snacks everyday. this is starting to make me feel really bad for people who think they can survive off of a sweet potato for dinner.

I know. Its hard huh?
All I can say is the opportunity for people to eat well is here. Many ppl give you advice. Eating an apple is not breakkie
Having said that I've always eaten brekkie. my brotehr never does. Cannot. So having a soy latte for brekkie would be a feat for him
Its sad taht everyone "to be happy and thin" is torturing themselves.I'd rather be curvy and happy than waif thin and couting cals in my tic tacs!!

I just wish that people could enjoy food.

For godsakes- if your not hungry for breakfast... then don't eat it. But dont fool yourself in to believing that 15 grapes and 3 almonds counts as a meal... and if your skip the most important meal of the day (breakfast...) then make sure that you get enough at lunch!

Food provides something called "Nutrition"... and your body needs it. You can fool your brain into believing that you don't need food... or that your not hungry or your to busy to eat... but you can't fool your body. Its smarter than you; it will die with out nutrition. And I am so not kidding.
I personally would never call anything in bar form a meal (except in an absolute desperate crunch).

I know CC may say that Clif bars and balance bars and the like provide good nutrition (they get an A grade), but I'd much rather eat something substantial and healthy than a bar (which is still really high in sugar).

People on here are very focused on weight loss, and a clif bar or something may be a healthy alternative compared to their usual snickers bar.  But for me, my diet's not about weight, it's about nutrition.  A lot of diseases run in my family, and I just want to be as healthy as possible.

Don't get me wrong though, a girl's gotta get her chocolate ;)
The problem that I see is that for most people like you described they are just looking at fat and calories.  You still need to get all the vitamins and minerals etc that is suggested.  This cannot be done with under the minimum calories.  Heck, I eat sometimes as much as 1800 calories and still fall short, especially in the fiber area.  I try to eat balanced meals and supplement that with healthy snacks.

Today I added a fiber cereal bar as an additional snack to try and get more fiber and still fell short.

It is very difficult, but can be done.

this is a funny way of looking at it... (dont read this if you dont have a sense of humor)

I guess I look at being hungry like I look at having to go to the bathroom... you wouldn't say "No body... Im not going to let you pee..." I know thats really funny... I think its funny. I can't believe im writting this but come on people.

If you have to pee... you will pee... why would you not eat if your were hungry??

And if you would actually not pee... if you had to... then you have problems. I am sorry to be harsh but its true.

:)
I think a lot of people here are very conscious of nutrition and aren't just trying to deprive themselves.  I eat a ton of food but I make very healthy choices, and you can fit a lot of vegetables, beans and whole grains into 2000 calories.  There are also a lot of differences between the forums ... the Weight Loss forum is more likely to have the posts about eating 600 calories a day, while the Vegetarian forum often has a lot of lively discussions about various aspects of nutrition.
mmm...i love food.  food is good.
i had 3200 calories today. Does that count as eating. By the way, that makes me sound fat I'm sure, but would you believe me if I said I was 5'11'' and 138 lbs! They were mostly healthy calories too.
I love food too!  I ate like crazy today, but I exercised, so the way I see it, I'm entitled :)
Lol I love the pee comment
ppl say I eat so much but i stay skinny. Thats cos I do. I eat what i want, what my body needs, but i dont get excessive and i dont starve myself cos that's realllllly dumb. I eat low cal food so I can eat more :D I'm sooo food obsessed, I could never do what these silly ppl here do and have an apple as a meal (unless maybe I was sick or whatves)
It just seems sometimes ppl would rather eat 1000 cals in diet jelly and fat free pudding than 2000 cals in real whole foods. I know most ppl would maybe gain if they ate 2000 cals, but you'd be energised and want to burn it off. If you ate only 1200 cals of junk your body owuld stop working properly (i think) cos of lack of nutritiona nd you may not lose weight anywY!!
no kidding.  i think there are too many people w/ eating disorders finding "support" for their behavior on this site.  it's scary.  there is a lot of good going on, a lot of positive motivation and discussion.  but there should be a doctor who peruses the site and reaches out to the people (mostly young girls!) who need help.  it is NOT healthy to be talking about every bite i took or how i wanted to be a size 0.
Ok if you read any of my other posts you will not believe what I am about to tell you.  I just realized I blew my log for yesterday and today.  I was trying out some new recipes and wanted to see how they added up so I put them on my log to get the numbers and forgot to take them off when I didn't eat them.  I just found out I was 300 calories short both days and didn't even realise it.  BEN AND JERRY AND I ARE ABOUT TO BECOME RE AQUAINTED. No I am not afraid to eat and now and then the boys and I just need to hang out together.

Sweet dreams all.
Where's the lady with the "this place is for everybody" schpeel? I'm surprised she hasn't done that yet ... not that she should -- she just does ALL the time.

I know most ppl would maybe gain if they ate 2000 cals, but you'd be energised and want to burn it off. If you ate only 1200 cals of junk your body owuld stop working properly (i think) cos of lack of nutrition and you may not lose weight anywY!! red_herring

Excellent insight and great point Red!

People are obviously screwed up for whatever reasons -- society, their own perfectionism, etc. ... I am almost finished with this book -- I think somebody on here had mentioned it: "Perfect Girls Starving Daughters" by Courtney E. Martin. (It's not a how-to manual, not to worry!) Good book if anybody cares to check it out.
I get impatient with those posts too.  Me, I like to cook and I cook everything from scratch.  I enjoy planning my meals and snacks.  What works for me is 1500 calories, divided into 3 meals and 3 snacks.  I eat every few hours.  I'm never hungry at night.

So if you want to talk cooking, come and see me!

PS:  I just discovered Ben & Jerry's Lighten Up ice cream.  It's wonderful!  210 calories for a half a cup.
I love food!  And I mean that in all seriousness.  I love it.  I like to look at recipes and make awesome meals.  And I like to go out for meals.  And I love to eat.

For me, dieting is about being aware of what I eat and increasing the nutrient density in what I consume.  I don't want to be thin nearly as much as I want to be healthy.  Conveniently eating in a healthy way is also a great way to lose weight if you are overweight!

I eat a decent sized breakfast and lunch and usually 3-4 snacks during the day while I am at work and then a big dinner and I average around 1500-1600 calories a day and I never really find myself wanting for anything.  If I really want a brownie.  I eat a brownie.  The trick is that I allow myself a brownie so later on I don't freak out about how limited my diet is and eat a pan of brownies.

I eat lots and lots of whole grains, fresh fruit and veggies!  I also eat lean meats and dairy.  And then I eat a little bit of healthy oil (usually in the cooking) and if I am craving it I have a bit of sweets.  It is sorta like this wacky thing called the food pyramid.

I don't eat air (the foods with no calories or nutrition to them) and I eat until I am full and not wanting for anything.  Food is usually a fun experience for me and I wouldn't have it any other way!
I love to eat and I love to cook.  I'm 25 lbs overweight but am slowly, slowly losing it.  I'm counting calories, watching nutrition content and not depriving myself of the foods I love - just portioning carefully.  Sometimes I overeat a bit on weekends when I'm out with friends but that's okay.  I think the obsession with weight and thinness is unhealthy and that a "diet" cannot be sustained over the long term.  It may take me a year to lose what I want to lose (for my health, so I can fit in my clothes!) but that's okay too.

I LOVE TO EAT!!!!  LoL hence, why I'm  315 lbs, but slowly losing! Yeah me!  :)  Anyway, I also feel this way sometimes...   I just dont understand how some people can have an apple for breakfast..??  thats not breakfast.   eat some oatmeal with that apple, or some whole wheat waffles (my fav, topped with a sliced banana..)  BUT i think some people just prefer not to eat, or the lack the attention, so they know they'll get it by posting "Ive only had 300 calories today, but I'm not hungry..." WHATEVER yes you are!!  theres no way that you wouldnt be hungry by eating that little, unless maybe youre ill.. anyway.. just my 2 cents...  :)
Hmm, I see more of a mix.  Some people don't eat enough around here but plenty of people make sure to keep themselves fed.  Maybe we're clicking on different posts so we see different things!
5'6" and 110 is underweight...sounds like you need to eat more, too, bc2410  ;-)
Not to cause any sort of controversary, but some people are not starving themselves because they want to...it's because they are physically afraid to eat.  I, too LOVE to eat and I mean LOVE... and i have maintained my weight at a 110-115 pounds for over a year and i've been maintaining very healthily.  However, I struggled... I struggled very, very much in forcing my way into a healthy calorie intake.. and it wasn't because I didn't want those calories... i wanted them, but I was actually physically afraid to eat a piece of bread.  I can remember standing over the bread in the Meal Hall at University saying, "Stephanie, make yourself a sandwich.  You're starving, you know you're starving, now make it, eat it and enjoy it." and I looked at the bread for about 10 minutes and i couldn't do it.  Just physically couldn't force myself to pick up the loaf of bread and remove two slices.  That was one of the lowest points in my life.

Thankfully, I have amazing parents who knew something was wrong immediately when i came home from university and they gently and sometimes not so gently helped me get back to a relatively normal state.  Although, I fought them tooth and nail. I'm so thankful to them now.

I was never, ever fat or even considered overweight, it wasn't about losing weight to me... it was just something inside triggered me to lose control over my world, so I made my world about food.  If I made my world as small as the things I ate then I could control my whole world.  This isn't me spewing something some therapist todl me... i never received counselling for my problem...i worked through it with support.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that while I agree that some people who post that they aren't hungry after eating only 300 calories ARE looking for attention... maybe some others are struggling and just inexplicably terrified of food for reasons even they don't understand.

PS.  The Pee post made me laugh... I pee A LOT ( I drink coffee and water in obscene amounts) and I am ADAMANT about going to the bathroom as soon as the feeling hits, I hate that "my bladder is going to burst" feeling.
