Is anybody else experiencing huge weight swings?

Has anyone else been experiencing huge weight swings with their pregnancy?

This is my first and I am at 17weeks, since I'm already overweight to start with ( out of sheer laziness I gained 20lbs this year *sighs*) I was hoping to only gain 15lbs with my pregnancy so I have been watching my calories eating a couple hundred above maintenance and weighing quite regularly to keep on track.

Admittedly since we had a house guest last weekend I was a little lax but I stood on the scale this morning (first time since Friday) and was up a whopping 6lbs.  I usually flucuate a couple of pounds and have had a couple of 4lb swings since getting pregnant but 6lbs, that's just crazy! lol it better go away before my next date with the doctor's scale.

I'd have some pretty major gains while pregnant. I'd go a couple weeks where I'd gain nothing and then BAM! I'd gain 12 pounds in 4 weeks. Okay, it only happened that badly once. The rest of the time it was a lower number. I only gained 5 pounds in my first trimester and 5 pounds in the third. Therefore, I had a lot of weight gain in my second trimester (I gained 40 pounds). My doctor only made one comment to me about excessive weight gain and that was after the 12 pounder. He said, "Eat less, walk more," and that was it.

Are you retaining water? My feet and hands swelled horribly through both of my pregnancies and I think that was a big factor in my weight swings.

It must be water, what else could it be?

But I don't feel swollen my hands and feet are fine the rings still seem to fit.  In general I'm eating 2000 - 2200 calories a day. I admit last weekend on Saturday I had an Oreo blizzard, and Sunday I indulged in a few handfuls of chips and some homemade cookies so I was expecting to be up a little today, but imo 6lbs is crazy lol.

So far in my 17 weeks I have gained about 6lbs total.  Last month there was a day I stepped on the scale and was up 4lbs but it disappeared by the next time I stepped on the scale.  How does my body just stash away 6lbs out of no where it doesn't even make sense.  Maybe I will have to double watch how much salt I am getting.
